Ray Flugger, ironically, founded what would become Flowmaster in 1983 in California by actually building a series of racing silencers to help shutter some of the noise that came out of big race race engines. Unlike other exhaust system's at the time, Ray's silencers managed to cut out the sound while still retaining every ounce of those monster cars' performance. Today Flowmaster is known for cat-back, axle-back, and other muffler systems that produce some of the loudest and most aggressive exhaust notes on the planet.

Flowmaster has exponentially expanded since those early days and makes exhaust components for nearly everything with wheels and an engine. Their best-selling Mustang exhaust kits are their American Thunder series that have an awesome rumble during hard acceleration, but have almost no rasp at idle or cruising speeds. Flowmaster builds are their parts in the USA out of their California and Idaho locations and use complex engine cycle analysis techniques and in-house dynamometers to guarantee maximum performance and establish themselves as one of the premier builders of Mustang performance parts.

Ray Flugger is still around is active in the fabrication and R&D of many Flowmaster parts.
