2005 Ford F-150 Lariat Supercab 4wd
Installed the 5100 struts and shocks on my son's 2005 F-150 Lariat 4wd, and the kit has really improved the looks of the truck greatly with the 2 inch front lift. The only problems I had with the install was compressing the stock front springs far enough to get the strut top mount to bolt down on the new strut with the extra lift. Otherwise, the rest of the install was a piece of cake. The rear shock install was a breeze. The truck still had the original shocks and struts, and they were toast. The Bilsteins 5100s have improved the truck's handling tremendously! Stage3 came through by delivering the kit quickly and at a great price!

These are great quality shocks. Pretty straight forward install. My truck is rusty so the upper strut mounts had to be chopped off with a cutoff wheel/grinder. I figured this going in, so I had a set already on hand. Make sure you have a good quality spring compressor. It was a slight challenge getting the stock spring compressed far enough to get the nut started on the new strut at the max height setting. I did this in a weekend in my driveway with jack stands and hand tools. I replaced a lot of other parts while I was in there. Lower ball joints, UCA, sway bar links, tie rod ends, and CV axles. If you were just installing this kit I don't imagine it would take someone more than a day. I would recommend spraying all your nuts and bolts down with some penetrating oil days before you begin the work. Also an impact gun would be a huge help. The truck rides great now, and I love the way it looks. I can clear a 295/70R17 tire on a 17x9 wheel with a 0mm offset now too!

Love the shocks. Truck rides much better. The back shocks went on very easy. The front struts were difficult to install. I had a lot of trouble trying to get the new struts in. The factory control arms did not have enough clearance and it took 2 people and 2 floor jacks to get enough articulation to get the strut in. I also had to remove the tie rod. I ended up getting the drivers side installed and limped the truck to a local shop and had them install the passenger side. If you have enough tools and manpower this can be done in a driveway, but using hand tools and floor jacks took me several hours just to get one strut installed. In the future I’ll do the rear shocks myself and have a shop do the front. I love the shocks but the install was a headache I’ll avoid in the future

I have about 220k miles on my truck and had some front end clunking... I rebuilt the front suspension and put on a set of Bilsteins and leveled the truck.... Truck drives better than it ever has! Also - this is the best price on Bilsteins I have found online... Highly recommend

Customer Question I was wondering if I could use the adjustable leveling shocks to add another couple inches on top of my RC 2.5” leveling kit.

Customer Answer We don't recommend it. The highest we recommend leveling these trucks is 3" (even with an aftermarket UCA), and the minimum ride height gain provided by the front strut assemblies is 1", meaning you'd be at 3.5" of total front leveling.

Customer Question Will these fit a 2004 F150 4x4? Is all the hardware (bolts, nuts, bushings, washers, bump stop) included?

Customer Answer As long as you have a new body style 2004 F150 and not a Heritage Edition truck. The front struts come with a lower bushing, upper nut, sleeve, and spring seat support. They require the reuse of your truck's factory bump stop, upper strut mount, and upper strut mount nuts. The rear shocks come with bushings, but require you to reuse the stock fasteners.

Customer Question Do the struts come with new bump stops? My old bump stops on my struts have broken apart and I am wondering if I need to get new ones or this kit comes with them

Customer Answer They do not. The front strut assemblies reuse the factory bump stops, so you'd have to source new ones from elsewhere.

Customer Question Will this fit a 2005 F-150 2WD XLT 5.4? I plan on getting a new leveling kit that is 3.5" Front and 3" Rear, so I need new shocks/struts.

Customer Answer This kit will not fit an RWD 2005 F150, even with a larger rear block. The Bilstein 5100 fronts will likely not work either, depending on the methodology of the front leveling/lift. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about what lift you're going to use and possible shock options.

Customer Question If in install the Bilstein strut with 2.1" level in front of my 2007 F150 4wd and I use the stock OEM 17' wheel. What size tire would fit with minimal cutting or modification?

Customer Answer On a factory wheel, you could feasibly fit a tire slightly taller than a 33", though you'd still have to watch your width if you want to avoid rub. Something like a 295/70R17 or a 285/70R17 should clear without issues. If you don't mind a little trimming, something like a 305/70R17 or a 33x12.50R17 would probably work.

Customer Question Do you recommend a front alignment after install or headlight adjustment?

Customer Answer A front-end alignment is strongly recommended, mostly to correct toe angle to prevent excessive tire wear. Headlight adjustment is recommended, though isn't entirely necessary on stock reflector headlights use normal halogen bulbs.
