A Smarter Suspension Upgrade for Everyday Driving and Weekend Trails
If your 4Runner still feels nose-heavy or a little unsettled over bumps, the Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Suspension Package is one of those upgrades that immediately makes sense once you drive it. This kit is built around Bilstein’s proven 5100 series, which has a reputation for delivering better control without sacrificing ride quality. Compared to stock suspension, you will notice a tighter, more composed feel both on the street and when the pavement ends. The adjustable front struts allow you to dial in anywhere from stock height up to 2.5 inches of lift using your factory coil springs, which is a cleaner and more reliable approach than spacer kits. It is a great way to level out the front end while still keeping a factory-like ride. In the rear, the included shocks are designed to handle up to 2 inches of lift, helping the entire truck stay balanced and controlled whether you are commuting, heading out on a road trip, or exploring off-road trails.
Balanced Performance on All Four Corners
What makes the 5100 series stand out from other options in this range is how well it blends comfort and performance. The monotube design and digressive valving respond quickly to changing terrain, so the truck feels stable over washboard roads, potholes, and uneven surfaces without becoming harsh during daily driving. Additionally, the gas-pressurized construction helps prevent fade, which is something you will appreciate on long drives or rough trails where cheaper shocks start to lose consistency. Installation is straightforward since this kit is designed as a direct replacement and reuses your factory springs and mounts, though you will need to disassemble the front coilovers to set your desired height. Once everything is installed, the difference is easy to feel. The front end sits level, the rear feels more planted, and the overall ride is more controlled whether you are hauling gear, running larger tires, or just enjoying a smoother drive around town.

2020 4Runner Venture
Decided to buy this kit after watching the video. Glad I did!! Shipped faster than customer service expected. Went with 1.75" setting in front and added a cornfed brand 1" spacer in rear. Tire guy tried 285/70-17 but said I'd have a lot of trimming to do to not rub. Went with Falken wildpeak 275/70-17 and after adjusting caster and slotting and pushing fender liner forward have no rubbing. Really set the vehicle off in my opinion. Excellent value. Before and after.

My shocks still came in quick even when they were short on items due to slow production (covid). Customer service is great and everyone was very nice to talk to. Bilstein 5100 is a amazing kit if you are looking to upgrade over stock and add some height for more aggressive look. I did 1.75 in front with stock rear height and the truck is perfectly leveled no front rake. Ride is amazing on and off road highly recommended and buy from stage3motorsports.

This Bilstein kit is hard to beat for the price and quality. The shocks ride wonderfully both on and off-road with a better sense of control than stock. I set mine to 1.75" of lift in the front and added a small 1" spring spacer to the rear which gave it the perfect stance.

Great communication, fast shipping, great price--the trifecta of online buying--and the kit is perfect for anyone looking to get a more controlled ride and/or little height increase. I added the 1" rear Cornfed spacer and used the 1.75" option on the fronts for a nice 1" or so overall lift--perfect for a bit of an improvement in stance with no effect on geometry or gas mileage. Cheers!

2010 4Runner Trail Edition
This kit is the way to go. I swapped out 10-year-old OEM shocks for Bilstein 5100s and it has been a night and day difference. The ride is much firmer in the best way: no more nose dive or body roll. I raised the front to the first setting above stock, 0.85” of lift. It’s a little hard to tell in pictures due to the lighting, but figured I would include before/after photos. Stock tire size, 265/70R17. Stage 3’s customer service was great. Bilsteins were on backorder (due to COVID), and Stage 3 was responsive and provided updates along the way.

Awesome product at a great price. Installation was fairly easy. I highly recommend this product. I used maximum height adjustment for front and bought spacers for rear springs so it would be level. Really enhances the look of the "Soccer Mom's" vehicle.

2015 Toyota 4Runner Limited (XREAS)
First of all I want to thank these folks over at Stage 3 Motorsports. They were extremely helpful with getting my order processed and shipped. Received my items with no issues. Installed these mother suckers on my vehicle. I was skeptical because I have the Xreas suspension that has fluid inside of the shock body’s. I was able to remove the old system, remove the springs and repurpose them with this kit. What a world of difference in ride quality. My old setup was starting to leak fluid and the ride was pretty harsh. This setup really makes driving my vehicle so much more enjoyable. My 1 year old also sleeps better in the suv. Rides like it’s on clouds, doesn’t nose dive when braking, and absorbs bumps like a champ. Great option if you’re looking to daily drive… Oh and I forgot to mention, I adjusted these to the third setting up front and has a slight rake. If you want the fully lift, I recommend getting 1 inch spacers in the rears to level it evenly.

I was recommended the 5100’s and Stage 3 Motorsports by a coworker. I am beyond satisfied, and shipping was expedient! I have mine set at 1.75 inch in front, and stock height in the rear. It looks leveled, but I have a 1/4 inch negative rake (which is mostly unnoticeable). The ride is firmer, but way better composed on uneven terrain compared to the stock suspension. I feel confident recommending these to anyone looking to tame the 4Runner’s sloppy driving manners.

Recently installed the Bilstein 5100 front and rear shocks. Went with the.85 front clip up front and the difference is slight but exactly what I had hoped. Nose dive when breaking is much less noticeable and body roll when cornering is improved. Technician suggested I drive 500 miles before alignment to allow shocks to “settle”? If I want to lift the rear 0.85”, do I need 1” rear spacers or 1” coils in addition to the new shocks to achieve the lift?
Asked by:
Bone
- 8/4/2024
The rear shocks on the 4runner do no actual lifting. You would need to add a spring spacer or taller rear springs if you were trying to add height to the rear. The 5100 rear shocks are capable of extending up to 2" above stock so you could put a 1" taller spring/spring spacer no problem with the rear shocks included int his kit.

Bilstien claims it fits RWD but do the front lift measurements stay the same? .85 1.75 2.5? or does the RWD come with a shorter strut from factory so the 0 or .85 setting is actually closer to 2 or 2.5 inches of lift on the RWDs front?
Asked by:
G
- 2/27/2024
The lift heights over stock height will remain the same regardless of it being 2wd or 4wd. A 2wd truck is lower from factory than a 4wd so you will still be sitting lower. You will just gain whichever height option you choose over the stock 2wd height.

So I recently ordered and received these 5100's for my 2017 4Runner TRD Off-Road. All research and comments show the first two lift options are 0.85" and 1.75". However, the instructions that came with mine state 0.55" and 1.1". Am I missing something?

According to the installation instructions directly from Bisltein's site, slot #2 is .85" and slot #3 is 1.75" on front part# 24-328258 that is included in this kit.

I have a 2020 4Runner TRD Off Road. If I go with the {2010-2023 4Runner 4WD & RWD Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Leveling Shock Kit 10204RUN4WD} front set at 2.5 and add a 1" Bilstein lift spring in rear, will it be close to level, and would I need to replace front control arms?
Asked by:
Jeff
- 9/14/2023
From our experience on our 2019 4 runner build, if you run them at 2.5" and a 1" rear lift you may be a tad nose high. We set the front to 1.75" with a 1" spacer in the rear, and were pretty close to even. If you look in our project section on the top banner and go to the 2019 4Runner TRD build you can see pictures of Noah's rig with the suspension settings we went with.

If I put these on my 15 4Runner Limitec with 2.5 front, what should I set the back to and can I keep all the other gear stock OEM?
Asked by:
Pat
- 9/5/2023
The best thing to do when deciding what ride heights to go with is take measurements from the axle to the fender front and rear on level ground and see what your actual differences are. Than you can make a determination on how much height you would need to run in the rear if you lift the front 2.5" so that you are level. You will most likely need more than 1" of rear ride height if the front is set to the 2.5" height.

From our experience setting them at max 2.5' height will normally require more than 1" of rear height to sit level. Best thing to do is to measure the distance from the hub to fender on both front and rear, and see what your actual differences are. Than you can make a decision on how high you need to go in the rear when adding 2.5" to the front.

I have a 2022 TRD Sport with xreas. Will this fit on my 4r?. I am only looking at leveling the 4r, so I am thinking of using the.85 setting. Is that correct?
Asked by:
Jun
- 7/11/2023
Unfortunately Bilstein does not list the 5100 shocks as being compatible with your 2022 TRD sport with xreas unless you were going to be doing a delete of the xreas system. If you do choose to go this route, it's best to measure distance from the hub to the fender front and rear and see what your rake difference is. If you are leaving the rear stock height, the .85 will most likely be closest to level without being nose high.

Yes you can install these on a 4runner with XREAS if you will be deleting XREAS, and they will work with the factory springs.

I have a 2010 limited 2wd. It has the x-reas system. Is that why this kit is not compatible? I plan on deleting the system. Will this kit work if I delete the x-reas? Thanks

- 4/15/2023
This kit would work on a 2010 Limited trim no problem. Our fitment note is specific to the 2020 Limited and Nightshade models as they use a different strut assembly and these would not be compatible to use with the factory springs on the 2020 Limited models.

Even though they are meant for OEM springs, can I pair with aftermarket springs and leave the clip set to “0” setting if my spring is already a 2.5? Also, if I have a 2.5 spring but would like a tad bit of a lift can I move the clip to a .85 and have no issues?
Asked by:
Ivan
- 3/28/2023
You can use the 5100s with aftermarket springs, as long as they're stock-replacement springs meant for stock strut assemblies (i.e. the Eibach Pro-Lift Springs). If the springs you have in mind do increase ride height by 2.5", then we recommend keeping the Bilstein 5100s set at a 0" ride height. If you do go higher than that, then you'll want at least aftermarket UCAs if not other suspension hardware.

I currently have this 5100 kit on my 2019 TRD ORP, leveling it out at .85 and 0 on rear. If wanted the same height as a TRD Pro, would I need anything else in addition to the current kit? Thanks!
Asked by:
Jonny
- 8/19/2022
From my understanding, the newer TRD Pros (2019+) are one inch taller in the front and rear than the standard 4Runner models. Unfortunately, the front Bilstein 5100s don't exactly have a 1" ride height setting, the .85" setting is the closest you'll get. Though you can set them at 1.75" and add a
Bilstein 1" lift rear spring
for a slightly taller stance.

In the review video you mention some very minor trimming within the fenders. Could you please elaborate on this a bit - where did you trim, approximately how much, etc.? Thanks for the information!
Asked by:
Nicky B
- 8/16/2022
Trimming was only required due to our choice of wheel and 285/70R17 tires. Using smaller tires (i.e. 275/70R17s), you likely won't have to trim. On our 4Runner, we had to trim the front wheel well liner where it meets the valance and trim some of the stock mud flaps. Unfortunately, we don't have exact measurements.

New to suspensions - is this all I need to level out my stock 2020 4runner SR5? Will likely have a shop install it but not sure if there are more parts I need to purchase.
Asked by:

- 8/11/2022
The front strut assemblies on their own are enough to level out your 4Runner. In general, most folks use the 1.75" ride height setting to get close to a "dead-level" stance. That being said, you may not want to be at a dead-level stance if you're going to carry rear cargo, since then you'll end up with rear squat.

Asked by:
Robin

That somewhat depends on what lift kit you're using on your 4Runner. If it's using the stock shocks or stock replacement shocks, this Bilstein kit will work just fine, though you'll probably have to keep the front strut assemblies set at a 0" ride height setting.

I have a 2016 4runner Trail which has the trd pro bilstein suspension. Will this fit?
Asked by:
travis
- 8/2/2021
This kit will fit a 2016 4Runner Trail, but you're going to have issues since you have the TRD Suspension. The front 5100s are not compatible with the TRD springs, and possibly the upper mounts, spring perches, etc. You'd need to source base OEM 4Runner springs and hardware to use the front 5100s. Secondly, the 5100s would likely be a downgrade in performance over the TRD Bilsteins. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at
[email protected]
so we can get more specific about what you're looking for.

Currently planning on getting this. Still deciding about the height would the rear be somewhat lower or would be fine regarding being “leveled” if I set the front on 2.5 and the rear with 1.5 springs on my 2019 4Runner off-road?
Asked by:
Mm
- 2/21/2021
In our experience, it takes about 2" of leveling to get a 4Runner to a "dead-level" stance. With 1.5" springs, you'd likely still have some rake at 2.5" of leveling. That being said, if you are going to be loading down your 4Runner with the gear, that slight rake would probably be a good thing. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at

Can you confirm the entire suspension setup on your 4Runner? - BIlstein 5100 shocks in front (set at 1.75") and rear - 1" Cornfed spacer in rear Could I do the following to get the same ride stance as the 4Runner in the video? - Bilstein 5100 in front (set at 1.75") and rear - Bilstein B12 Special Series 1" Rear Lifted Coil Spring with NO rear spacer lift. Or, would I need the replacement spring and add the spacer lift? *Note: I have a 2011 Limited with 150k on it, and the XREAS will need replacing soon. Trying to go about this the most budget-friendly way while maintaining smooth ride and adding level + 1/2" of a lift. I'm considering this or the 5160/6112 package.
Asked by:
Drew
- 1/11/2021
Noah's 4Runner did use the front strut assemblies set at 1.75" of ride height and a 1" spring spacer in the rear. If you simply swapped the spacer for a 1" lifted rear spring, you would get essentially the same stance. You would not need an additional spacer with Bilstein's 1" lift springs. The 6112/5160 package is a little more off-road oriented, but you would still get a similar stance.

What are the different adjustment levels for the front and back?
Asked by:
Ben

According to Bilstein, the front 5100s have settings for 0", .85", 1.75", and 2.5" ride height settings. The rear shocks do not add ride height on their own, but they're capable of handling up to 2" of rear ride height from aftermarket rear spring spacers, aftermarket springs, or other rear lift system.

You can go either way. It just really depends on your budget. We tend to recommend springs, just because they do help ride quality a bit, especially on 4Runners with a good amount of miles on them whose rear springs have probably seen better days.

Asked by:
Gonzo

Not technically. The rear shocks will work with the factory rear springs without any issues. Now, it may be a good idea to replace the stock springs if you have a ton of miles on them or if you plan to run the front strut assemblies at their full ride height, which may give you some rear squat if you're hauling around a lot of gear.
You can check out our rear spring options here
