2" of Adjustable Height w/ High Quality Tacoma Bilstein Front Shocks
If you are looking for a package to improve your 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma's front suspension, then you may be interested in Bilstein's stock. When you want something that will make your truck actually perform as well as it looks, both on the road and off, you'll need a set of front Bilstein B8 5100 Series shocks. The shocks are each built around a 46mm digressive piston used with a nitrogen gas-charged mono-tube design for a fade-free performance in all weather conditions. The adjustable design features multiple OEM snap-ring grooves for different spring positions. Just like all of Bilstein's high-quality suspension components, the 5100 series front shocks are built from the ground up for performance, longevity and reliability. On top of their leveling and lifting abilities, the 5100s give your truck better handling by improving rebound, response, and articulation all while keeping your truck's street and highway ride crisp and smooth. An additional benefit is increased suspension travel while out on the road or trail. The shocks can do this after you easily install them right into place of your factory shocks and reuse your stock OEM coilover springs.
Improves Rear Suspension Performance for Many Applications
The factory rear shocks on your 2016-2023 Tacoma are fraught with compromise and really can't handle much more than basic street driving. When you need something that can handle an extra inch of lift in the rear and improves your truck's performance, you can turn to the Bilstein 5100 series rear shocks. These rear shocks for the trucks are the perfect uprated replacements for stock and come backed by Bilstein's legendary quality and performance. The shocks are built from the ground up for light truck applications and is the perfect choice for the truck that does a little bit of everything. The specialized valving and high-quality piston of these shocks provide excellent off-road performance, improved towing control, and a much more planted street ride without ruining your truck's factory ride comfort. The shocks bolt on right in place of your truck's factory rear shocks, but feature a performance-oriented design. The 5100 rear shocks are built around a monotube, nitrogen gas-charged design for fade-free performance. Each shock uses self-adjusting deflective disc valving that provides it with excellent response in almost any application. The shock's digressive piston adapts to changing road conditions. The body of each shock is made out of heavy-duty steel with a zinc-plated finish and a Triple-C coating for great looks and high strength.

2020 Toyota Tacoma SR
I I coupled this particular kit with the Eibach stage 1 springs and a 2” block in the rear. Currently installed on the lowest notch, it gives me slightly over 2” in the front and 2” in the rear. I was really worried that I would lose the smooth factory ride but instead it drives a bit smoother in my opinion and a major improvement when driving on bumpy roads. Much smoother overall performance on my truck. This is definitely the go to kit for beginning off-readers or weekend warriors who do mostly daily driving. I would definitely purchase again!

I went with blinstein 5100 shocks as I wanted to just level the truck and not run into issues with a bigger lift. I set the front shocks to 3rd notch for level stance a 1.2 increase. Big improvement with looks and helped with eliminating the lean into curves and nose dive on heavy braking stock shocks had. No Taco lean as it uses the stock springs which accommodate for the extra weight on drivers side. No issues with TSS since it only raised front a little. Bought at stage 3, good price, great communication and install videos that really help.

2023 Toyota Tacoma Trd off-road 4x4
Installed on 3rd groove thinking I would get 2” but got 2.5 making truck squat by about an inch. Ordered 1” rear block from stage 3 by ready lift and installed, truck looks amazing ?? I was just going for level but now that I raised rear 1” it’s exactly the same as the Toyota approved TRD lift (literally same everything except I didn’t swap grill) but for 1500 less. Ride is as good or better than factory and no issues with adaptive cruise control nor any need to adjust sensor for radar cruise control. I am running 265/70-17 on 17x9 -12 offset that rubbed a lot before lift and not at all now. Before and after pics. Im very happy and install was very simple. Front took me about 2.5 hours and rear about 2 hours. Im handy but by no means a mechanic. If you put your own brakes and such in, you should have no issues. I also didn’t need a spring compressor, only removed 2 lower bolts from front knuckles, didn’t take any ball joints or control arms apart like most videos show to do. Just search for Tacoma level, no spring compressor and decide at your own risk of course, but I had no issues at all. Thank you stage 3 Motorsports!

2018 Toyota Tacoma TDR Off Road
2018 Toyota Tacoma TDR Off Road Some Tacoma's must be higher than others from factory. I started with the 4th notch from the bottom and it was way to nose high. I ended up dropping it down 2 notches and it is closer to level now. The ride is much better with the 5100's than with the stock setup. Very happy with this setup.

Great upgrade for my truck. Set mine on fourth notch which set front of truck basically dead level with rear. Allows truck to handle 275/70/17 tires on 17x8.5 wheels with no rubbing. Improved ride quality overall.

I used this Bilstien 5100 shock kit to lift/level my Taomca. On the rear, I used 1" blocks. I may switch them out with an add a leaf or different spring pack later, but right now, I'm happy with them. On the front, I used the factory springs, and set the shocks to the highest setting (I may have gotten that backwards at first and had to pull things back apart halfway through the job, so pay attention to the instructions as to which is position 1 vs position 5; they come set at the factory to no lift.) Installation was simple and straightforward if you know how to do struts, although my spring compressors barely fit on the springs because they are thick with little space. While doing the shocks, I disconnected the battery to allow the adaptive to reset. The total install time for me was a bit over 2 hours with the help of my 16yo son. I have had no issues with the TSS system. Lane change and radar cruise are working as they should with no alarms, lights, or bells. I did need to adjust my headlights down about 1 1/2 turns because I don't want to blind people. This is an excellent kit with quality components.

Personally, I feel like the welds on the bottom part of the strut going to the lower shock mount could’ve been better on bilsteins part (Bilstein, if you’re reading this take a look at your QC process please). Some gaps and undoubtedly that’s a weak spot. However, for the price I don’t think you can beat this setup. So much better than spacer type lift. We installed this with on the fourth setting (second to the highest) and got about 1.5” of lift exactly as instructions indicated. It was dead level front to back. Unfortunately we had a lot of rubbing with 285/70/17 wheels 4.75” backspacing. So we lifted it up to the fifth and highest notch. It now sits a little higher in the front, but to me doesn’t look too uneven visually. A lot less rubbing with minimal trim. To anybody considering this setup with 285s, it you actually offroad, be prepared to do a tremendous amount of trimming. I would expect cab mount chop, fender liner, fender flare, firewall pinch weld, front bumper, etc. We don’t really use it for off-roading, so I don’t expect to flex it out much. We were able to heat up fender liner front and back with a heat gun, push it in to gain a bit of clearance. Bend a little bit of the pinch weld and trim the bottom corner of the fender flare. This works for normal driving and no rub under normal driveway entry and bumps etc. I’m sure if we hit a driveway going really fast with wheels cranked it will rub. But this would be a kind of dangerous maneuver in parking lot anyways, so not a major concern.

2018 Tacoma Limited
After reading about the Bilstein B8 5100 strut/shock kit on Tacoma World I decided to give them a try. Here are my impressions of the install and the ride differences. The install is super easy and can be done in your garage without any special tools. Search How to Remove Toyota Front Strut Assemblies the Fastest Way on YouTube. The instructions say that the bottom adjustment groove on the front struts is stock ride height, next one is .65" higher, and third 1.1" higher than stock. These measurements weren't accurate on my 2018 Taco Limited. I wanted to level out my truck, so I went with the third groove. Turns out the third groove is 1.5" higher than stock, making it .5" higher in the front than the rear. I drove it like that for a week just to see it would settle and it didn't change. In that time I started feeling a vibration in the left front, see ECGS bushing replacing diff bearing on Tacoma World. Went down to the next groove and it was 1.1" above stock, so basically perfectly level. Still had the vibration from the front diff bearing, so I lowered it to the bottom groove expecting it to be back at the factory height, it wasn't. Using the bottom groove, it's .65" above stock, which is where I left it until I address the diff bearing. Now about the ride quality. The factory struts/shocks on the Limited are made by Mitsubishi and are complete CRAP! Super harsh and just not good at dampening bumps at all! These Bilstein 5100 are an improvement in dampening, but don't make as much difference in the ride quality as I had hoped. If you want plush, these are not the dampeners you should get. I haven't tried anything else ...yet, so I can't say how to achieve plush, but these really aren't it.

If I install a 1 inch rear block with this kit will my sr5 Tacoma be completely level?
Asked by:
Jack
- 6/1/2024
Every truck sits slightly different so we cannot guarantee this over the internet, but if you measure from the center of your wheel to your fender on both front and rear, than subtract them from each other than you will know how much difference you are working with. With that information, you can than decide how high you want to set the front and will know for certain what difference would be if you added another inch to the rear height.

Will UCA’s be needed ?
Asked by:
Patrick S
- 12/26/2023
We would not consider uca mandatory to run this kit, but at the max height a good set of aftermarket uca will help with spring clearance, make alignment easier, and will help the suspension articulate without binding which will improve ride quality.

What are the install requirements? Can I do this myself? Do you need a spring compressor?
Asked by:
Justin

Yes you do need a spring compressor to do it yourself, or access to a shop that you can take the parts to and ask them to assemble them for you. The truck will also need an alignment after the new parts are installed.

I bought this kit, but have yet to install it. I want to set both front/rear at max setting for ground clearance. Do I need rear blocks or will the rear shocks be fine?
Asked by:
Avery
- 4/15/2023
The rear shocks on the Tacoma are only absorbers and will not add lift on their own. They are long enough to handle 1" above stock height, so you could add a block or leaf kit to raise the rear ride height.

On a 2020 SR5 4x4, with a 2” lift on the front to level the truck is there any concern with the drivers side needle bearing?
Asked by:
Mat
- 3/30/2023
Generally, with a correct and competent install, you should not have an issue with the front wheel bearings. Just make sure to properly align your CVs, grease, and ensure no debris or grime makes its way in there.

Bought a 2022 Tacoma OR package,. Goal is to level the front 2” to get dead level. Tho I’m warming up to the idea of getting the rear set for a 1” lift in the back IF the 2-1 stance still provides a level look. Want to avoid the stink bug look?
Asked by:
Ed
- 9/9/2022
A lot depends on whether you're going to be running constant weight in the bed and how much weight, which is the big reason folks tend to run extra ride height in the rear via a block, add-a-leaf, or leaf pack. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at

Asked by:
Brett

If you're going to be doing any off-roading, we definitely recommend it to help avoid spring contact. If you're solely on the street, you wouldn't necessarily have to, but it's generally still a good idea.

This particular kit will not fit a 2005-2015 Tacoma. The 2016-2022 trucks require slightly different front lengths.

That somewhat depends on what wheel you're using. However, you'll generally have to trim with a 285/75R16 with this kit on its highest settings.

Would I be able to fit 285/70R17 tires on stock rims on the 4th notch? If not what size spacer would be recommended?
Asked by:
Dylan
- 1/16/2022
Youll likely get some rub on the valance and wheel well with that size tire on the stock wheels. Frankly, a wheel spacer will likely not help. You'd probably just have to trim or use a slightly narrower tire that better fits the arch of the wheel well.

I have a 2021 TRD off road Tacoma. Just got it a few months ago, and my main and only goal is to lift just the front. I want to stick with the stock tires from Toyota until they wear down. I like the rear height with the factory tires and want to level that front height with the rear height. Which notch in the Bilstein 5100 front will give me that level mark where it matches the rear with the factory tires. Also, I've read a lot that these will work fine with factory coils, and I do not need to get any additional component parts if I want to do just about a 1' inch just in the front. Just want to be sure before buying from you guys.
Asked by:
Tyler Brossett
- 11/4/2021
In general, the Tacomas need about 2" of front leveling to have a "dead-level" stance, so you'd have to use the top-most perch setting. Even at 2" of extra front ride height, you do not necessarily need additional hardware, though UCAs can be a good idea if you're off-roading fairly aggressively.

Will I be able to use a 1.25" block for the rear?
Asked by:
JAMIE
- 8/9/2021
Bilstein only rates the rear shocks for 1" of additional lift, and technically, a 1.25" rear block is a bit tall. That being said, if you're carrying a bed rack or some other constant-weight on the rear, you'd likely be fine. Ideally, you'd need a shock capable of more height like the
Eibach Pro-Truck Shock
, which is rated for 1.5" of rear lift.

Will you be able to fit 33inch tires with this? I have a stock Tacoma 2WD
Asked by:
Gilbert
- 7/16/2021
That depends entirely on what wheel you're using, specifically its width, backspacing, and offset as well as what specific size of a 33" tire. Depending on the wheel, you can likely fit a fairly narrow 33" tire (i.e. 275 or 265 wide), but your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at
[email protected]
so we can get more specific about your truck.

They're similar in principle, but I believe there are some design differences, though I could not get specific info from Toyota. Bilstein's 5100s will not affect your TPMS system, Toyota Safety Sense, or Adaptive Cruise Control.

I have a 2016 Tacoma SR5 Access cab 4x4 .. will this kit work on my truck to level it? If so, what setting on front shock would i use? Also do i need anything else besides this kit? Thanks for any help
Asked by:
TADD68
- 10/24/2020
This kit will work fine on your truck. As far as leveling, in general, it takes about 2" of front leveling to get a Tacoma close to "dead level", but that can vary a bit depending on the wear and tear of your suspension, especially the leaf springs. Your best bet would be to see where you're at with the fronts set at 2" and then either drop them down to the next-highest setting or look at doing something in the rear.

Looking at buying Bilstein 5100 shock package. I'm only raising truck 1"with front shocks to level truck out. Do i need a differential drop kit for just 1" of height?
Asked by:
Quickdraw
- 5/22/2020
A differential drop is generally not necessary if you're at 1" of lift, especially if you're not pushing the truck extremely hard off-road. The CVs are more stout than folks tend to give them credit for, even when the geometry of the front end is thrown off slightly by a level.
