2001 Mustang Performance Parts & Specs
2001 Mustang Information & Specifications
2001 Mustang Overview:Both the base model and GT Mustangs for 2001 were largely the same as their 2000 predecessors and rolled out of Ford's Dearborn plant using the SN95 body style with a 3.8L V6 and a 4.6L SOHC, respectively. Ford released it's first iteration of the Bullitt special edition GT Mustang that paid homage to Steve McQueen's 1968 GT-390 from the movie of the same name. The Bullitt Mustangs had an uprated suspension package that lowered them by 3/4'' and featured Tokico shocks and subframe connectors. A new intake, high-flow mufflers and underdrive pulleys pushed flywheel horsepower up to 265hp, according to Ford's own ratings. Rounding out the package were 17'' wheels with performance Goodyear tires and Brembo brakes. A full set of scoops for the sides and hood along with the deletion of the rear spoiler gave the exterior a clean, sporty look. The Cobra was resurrected for 2001 and used a new aluminum block with revised heads, intake, exhaust and PCM programming that drove its 4.6L DOHC V8 to 320 horsepower. Performance parts for GT, V6 and Cobra models are still plentiful and Stage 3 Motorsports can provide you with the perfect aftermarket performance modifications to meet your specific application.
2001 Mustang Aftermarket Performance Parts:Most of our customers assume that serious horsepower gains can only be found with expensive forced-induction systems or complete engine block overhauls, but for only a few hundred dollars, several simple bolt-on accessories can make the 4.6L V8's power output jump up by as much as 30hp. The most popular enhancement for SN95s is a cold air intake. Cold air systems use high-capacity air filters housed in the Mustang's fender well and specially-made inlet tubing to bring larger volumes of cooler air to the engine than the stock air box. Most of our cold air intakes here at Stage 3 will give the Mustang's engine an additional 10 to 15 horsepower. We strongly recommend investing in an aftermarket throttle body or throttle-plenum to go along with any cold air system. Performance throttle bodies have greater diameters than stock and better valve designs that make intake airflow more efficient. In general, throttle bodies give a 10 horsepower bump along with improved throttle response. More horsepower can be squeezed out of the 4.6L V8 with a complete set of underdrive pulleys. Underdrive pulleys slow down the rotational speeds of the alternator, water pump and crank for decreased drag on the drive belt that allows the engine to put more power at the flywheel and driveshaft. Underdrive pulleys typically allows the engine to make up to 10 additional horsepower.
2001 Mustang aftermarket exhaust upgrades:Horsepower and torque can also be found by reworking the Mustang's exhaust system. Stage 3 Motorsports has a range of exhaust components that provide excellent sound and raw power to owners of 2001 Mustangs. The exhaust piece that's easiest to install and will give the SN95 an old-school sound is a cat-back system. Cat-backs either come with new and improved mufflers or delete the mufflers in their entirety to create a specific exhaust tone and rumble. Some cat-backs can boost horsepower and torque slightly by using mandrel-bent kickover pipes and larger tips that have less back pressure than the stock crimped piping and small exits. Aftermarket x-pipes and h-pipes are where real performance gains really begin. All of our x-pipes and h-pipes at Stage 3 Motorsports have more efficient tubing and come with either high-flow catalytic converters or delete the converters to further decrease back pressure. Versions with catalysts can add up to 10 horsepower while uncatted pipes can give larger 20 horsepower gains. The only other way to get more power out of the SN95's exhaust after the mid-pipe is to throw on a set of performance headers in place of the factory exhaust manifolds. Short tube ''shorty'' headers can give the engine 10 horsepower with their mandrel-bent tubing that can attach to the stock mid-pipe or factory-length aftermarket mid-pipes. Long tube headers use extremely long piping that's designed to generate almost not back pressure and promote exhaust scavenging. Long tube headers require the use of a shorter mid-pipe from the same brand and allow the SN95 to produce an extra 30 horsepower. Some headers and mid-pipes may not meet emissions regulations in your area. Please check your local emission guidelines before ordering.
2001 Mustang exterior upgrades:A Mustang with aggressive power and sound needs an aggressive look for a complete package. The Complete ROUSH Fascia kit is a favorite of Stage 3's SN95 customers. ROUSH's fascia changes the entire shape of the Mustang's front chassis with its revamped fog lights and enormous lower grill that dominates the frame. For an even sportier appearance, a new set of wheels from Wheel Replicas or OE Wheels will make your 2001 Mustang ready for the track or street. These wheels have a wide range of spoke designs and finishes that can match nearly any styling theme.
2001 Mustang handling upgrades and brake parts:The factory brake systems on most of the SN95s is notoriously weak and struggles to bring the heavy Mustang to a timely stop in its stock configuration, much less can be expected with extensive power modifications. Luckily, your friends at Stage 3 Motorsports have the solution in the form of our many complete brake kits that can include top of the line rotors, calipers, pads and brake lines from names like Wilwood and Baer. These brakes are built from the ground up for performance applications on high-powered Mustangs. Combining new brakes with a set of Nitto NT555 ultra-high performance summer tires will keep your 2001 SN95 on road without issue. The NT555 is Stage 3's preferred tire, because it has excellent handling characteristics for track use without noise, vibration and harshness during street driving. Contact Stage 3 Motorsports for the latest tire pricing and size availability.
