2015-2023 Mustang 2.3L EcoBoost Catch Cans & Oil Separators
The turbocharged, direct-injected design of your 2015-2023 Mustang's 2.3L EcoBoost I4 engine provides improved power output and fuel economy over standard rail-injected engines, but the system isn't without a few issues. One of the biggest is possible water ingestion because of moisture build-up in the intercooler, and another is eventual valve coking caused by PCV blow-by. An aftermarket catch can helps to prevent both issues by capturing intake moisture and PCV oil vapor before they hit your 2015-2023 Mustang's intercooler or intake manifold so that you get improved performance without a ton of maintenance issues or hassles. Keeping your 2.3L EcoBoost Clean and Mean
While the PCV system on the 2015-2023 Mustangs with the 2.3L doesn't suffer from anywhere near as much oil blow-by or condensation buildup as its other EcoBoosted cousins, it can still benefit from from a catch-can for the same reasons as the other EcoBoost engines and performance cars at large. The direct-injection system of the EcoBoosts are vulnerable to valve coking in the long term due to a lack of a washing action that's found in standard rail injection. Oil blow-by also has an octane rating of around 46, which degrades your Mustang's overall fuel octane, which can rob performance.
