Off-Road Front Bumpers and Adaptive Cruise Control and Park Assist

These aftermarket front bumpers for the 2015-2017 F150s look awesome give you a ton of options for getting your truck the right look and feel. However, there is a pretty serious issue with adding a front bumper if your truck is equipped with Ford's optional Adaptive Cruise Control and/or Park Assist functions: a bumper will cause these systems to not work, which is some seriously bad news if you have a Lariat, King Ranch, or Platinum 2015-2017 F150 optioned out with those systems. Unfortunately, there's not a workaround at this time, so if you have those systems installed on your truck, you may want to consider holding off on a front bumper...unless you can live without them.

The reason front bumpers cause the Adaptive Cruise Control and Parking Assist Systems to go haywire has to do with how those systems work in the first place. Both of Ford's systems use radar to gauge how far objects or other vehicles are from your front end. The radar system is mounted in the 2015-2017 F150's lower bumper behind one of the "breadbox" humps. While the radar can penetrate the fairly thin plastic of the bumper itself and pick up a radar return off in the distance, it just reflects off of the steel that makes up the vast majority of the off-road bumpers we offer here at Stage 3. The end result is that your truck thinks its inches away from crashing into something at all times, making both Adaptive Cruise Control and Parking Assist absolutely useless if you add a bumper.

As of right now, there's not currently a set way or kit available to locate the radar systems for Ford's Adaptive Cruise Control or Park Assist. Maybe a pretty hefty wiring job and some custom fabrication could solve the problem, but your safe bet may be to skip on a front bumper for now if you have these systems on your truck.

The Full ADD Treatment on our 2015 F150 5.0L Project Truck!

We knew from the get-go that we wanted to transform our 2015 F150 5.0L into a wicked desert truck that could handle just about anything, so who better to turn to than a company called Addictive Desert Designs to make it happen. Once our 5.0L's suspension, wheels, and tires were sorted out, we gave our cross-town neighbors over at ADD a call and made some magic happen. To really get our truck prepped for some serious off-roading, ADD hooked us up with an ADD Stealth R Winch Plate Front Bumper, an ADD Venom Rear Bumper, and an ADD Venom Chase Rack. The combination gave our truck an amazing look and the level or protection it needed to tackle just about any terrain.
