[UPDATED]2015 Mustang LEAKED in Autoweek!

While our post title may contain a cutsie rhyme, we have some serious news the 2015 Mustang has been leaked in what is bound to be its final form! The leak comes from a post on the SVTPerformance.com forums, where a user got an early copy of Autoweek with all of the juicy details on the next-generation Mustang lineup. Aside from the heavily revised and updated styling, there's a new engine in the mix along with a few other interesting changes that may just make this Pony the best yet!

Leaked 2015 Mustang

Our friends over at Jalopnik are reporting on most of the finer details, and there's some pretty big bombshells hidden in the Autoweek article. The biggest confirmation (other than its Evos concept-based styling) is that the 2015 Mustang is fitted with an independent rear suspension (IRS) and that a 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 will be one of the engine options, most likely slotting between the already standard 3.7L Duratec V6 and the 5.0L Coyote V8. The 2015 Mustang weighs 200 pounds less than the current model, some of which was found by using aluminum fenders and other weight-saving measures.

Leaked 2015 Mustang

Two Performance Packages will be available for both the 5.0L V8 and 2.3L EcoBoost engine options that are reminiscent of the current Mustang's SVT Performance package. The 2015 Performance Packages will contain at least a 15" Brembo brake kit with Six-Piston Calipers, along with the brakes, the kit will come with a limited slip differential for the Pony's IRS. According to Jalopnik, the Performance Package 2015 Mustangs are faster around the track than a 2012 Boss 302.

Leaked 2015 Mustang

The dimensions of the car are slightly different than the current S197 platform, and the 2015 has a wider rear track, lower overall height, and an overall great width. The 2015 Mustang will come with standard keyless entry with a proximity key, and MyFord Touch will be an option for some models, but will have physical buttons for heating and A/C control.

Leaked 2015 Mustang

Expect more details to be released in the next few hours. We'll keep this blog post updated for new information as we receive it.

The dash looks good, looks like they put in meters like Porsche and Ferrari does, nice touch.

Horrible dash. Slope in rear like a foreign 350z. What a disappointment. Ill keep my 2001 roush stage 3 and 08 shelby gt 500 thank you. Ford and keep lthe foreign stang!

I have owned about 20 Mustangs over the last 20 years, the most recent a 13 Boss. So I believe I have the right to say this: What an ugly car. It looks like they couldnt decide on one look and decided to compromise. It looks as if the 15 is more like a 14 and a half.

IF YOU PUT A BOW TIE ON THE GRILL IT WOULD BE A CAMARO...

Interior looks nice. But the body is absolutely hideous. Ford had a good thing going. That is now ruined with this redesign.

Jim

Date 12/3/2013

It looks nice, maybe they should have called it a "Maverick". It surly doesn't look like a 60th anniversary of the mustang!. The 2015 should have been resigned like the early 64 1/2's. Glad I bought the 13' GT.

Jim

Date 12/3/2013

Ron, I was thinking the same, looks kinda Camaro.

Sandra

Date 12/3/2013

It's getting to look more like a ricer & less like a Mustang every day.

Date 12/3/2013

I was afraid that the 15 was going to be a disappointment so I bought a 2014 GT so glad I did thank god it is a good stang just like my 2006

Very nice car ford, not as aggressive as I hoped for but sill nice. Some people will complain no matter what and say dumb crap like...(It surly doesn't look like a 60th anniversary of the mustang!)Well it can't look like a 60th anniversary Mustang because the car will only be 50 years old, not 60.

Another Commonaro.....with lettuce and tomato. Just makes my 2001 Saleen SC worth more. Ill pass for 2015.

How disappointing. I think Ford just lost a lot of sales. Looks like any other ricer now

I need to personally see it, touch it, maybe sit in it and mayyyyyyyybe take it for a spin before I'll set judgement. Sometimes a picture does not say 1000 words. Needless to say I'll wait until the dealership brings them in next year. I am the proud original owner of a mint 1972 Mustang Grande, I also have a 1976 Mustang II Ghia and a 2006 Roush Stage 2.

Jim

Date 12/3/2013

Well, let's wait to see one in person. Sometimes, cars look much different -- and better -- sitting in front of us. And, often, they look better in photos! We'll see.

hmmmm no i will my 2006 roush clone gt and my 2014 roush looks like i got the last real stang. GOOD LUCK FORD!

Rick Minor

Date 12/3/2013

Looks as if Ford is going to see if they have as much luck with the 2015 as they did with the Mustang II. I think if Shelby were still here, well....we won't go there!!

Wow, absolutely terrible. Every Ford car now has an identical grille design. Looks like I'll be hanging on to my 06 Roush for a loooooong time.

Robert

Date 12/3/2013

Looks like a pissed off Lexus. Wow guys go back and start again. This is the car you want call the 60th anniversary edition. Hope dealers have a lot of extra space for long term storage.

Front end looks like a Fusion, roof line like a 370z. I think too many people had their fingers in the pie. Ughhh!!!

Mac

Date 12/3/2013

I have owned a 1970 Mustang Fastback, a 78' Mustang piece of crap and my 2006 Roush. Though I do not think it is hideous, I do think they could have done a bit better. I do not see Camaro as that POS is horrible. The profile does hint an oversized Nissan 370Z though. The dash does look better than my 06'.

Who designed this? It appears Ford consulted with Audi & Nissan to create this monstrosity? I will keep my 07 GT!

Eric

Date 12/3/2013

All in All, its not a bad looking car. It looks lighter, and may even be quicker, which means a better performer; just doesn't have that bad-ass american muscle car vibe. Love my 2009 Bullitt and my 2013 5.0, and will never give those up for this one…but i can't hate on this either. Good job ford if its a world marketed car, and our youth will love it.

Welcome Nisson Ford 370Z.We've lost it's identity. The fog lights fight with the headlights for priority. We've lost the iconic 1/4 side windows w/louvers. The rear looks like they couldn't decide what to do.(less is more you know?)I'm sorry but I'll be keeping my 2011 for a long time. The things I would have liked to see added to the present design would be a skylight,a hatchback, and rear windshield wipers. Then it would be perfect.

Mitch Parsons

Date 12/3/2013

Wow. My 08 GT500 just got worth even more. What an ugly car. Go back and start over Ford... It's supposed to be a mustang, right?

Mo

Date 12/3/2013

Is it a Nissan? Horrible design and decision - do they never learn? I will keep my 2011.

Carl Joseph Clack

Fugly is all I can say. I'll keep my 08 4.0 Whipple-charged GT 500. Ford is losing my business with this Japtastic wonda ride!

Some parts look good. They left more retro than I thought they would. Interior looks nice. I expected more weight to come off. However, it looks a bit too ricey and not an American musclecar. So, WTF Ford???...I can see some big revisions coming for the 2016 model unless they clean this thing up before production starts. As of right now, I still prefer the looks of the 2014 model and almost every year prior. I hope this damn car performs like a new 'Vette. I think Fast and Furious fooked-up this generation.

Whats really funny, is they are reprinting the renders from Mustang6g.com These are RENDERS people, every picture shown has been up on that website for a month or so, and Autoweek is releasing them like they are fact. The only pictures that are not renders are the shots of the dash. They are based on supposedly snagged copies of the cad files, nothing more.

They should have gone with that concept thats been floating around the web the past few years. You know that orange that looks more exotic and less Japanese.

Jim

Date 12/4/2013

Had an '05...when they finally decided it was going to look a Mustang again... Now I have an '11 once they decided it was going to run like a Mustang should... This is an amorphic blob of 80's indifference. Guess the next Mustang I buy will be an '09 and throw in an '11 mill since Ford can't seem to handle more than one aspect of design at a time. Too bad so much negative, but I would bet serious money sales will validate the consensus.

E Leigh

Date 12/4/2013

The only part if this car that looks half decent is the front end from straight on. The rest looks like a euro-Japanese fusion. I'm sure performance will be great, but what a total disappointment. Where's the mustang?

what a major SELL OUT! This car has absolutely no place representing its predecessors. it is not even from the same gene pool. Its like having a champion show dog, a purebred that is prized, and acknowledged by all in a kennel, where somebody left the gate opened. And a complete street mutt comes in and impregnates, championship best Show, dog, the result "the 2015 Mustang "Who Left the Gate open" never selling my Roush 2006

So happy I got my 2013 last year. Has definitely lost the late 60's retro look. Interior also seems to be influenced by foreign sports cars. So long Mustang Muscle!

Is there a Mustang somewhere in this story? Did Ford move to Japan and not tell anyone? Another rice rocket in red! I'll keep my 2010 and 2012 Mustangs. Maybe I'll go out and buy a 2014 before there all gone.

Very sad to see the direction they went with. This is the end result of liberal thinking, at its best! Doing away with anything that resembles true american grit!!

You know, this happens with every refresh or model overhaul that Ford does with the Mustang. People will cry foul and throw stones at Ford for not making the next iteration of their beloved pony car a resurrection of the 1967 GT500 or a mildly refreshed model of their favorite year Mustang. They want 1,000,000hp, 1,000,000 mpg, 1000 cubic inches and 8 cylinders. They want a solid rear axle and archaic suspension geometry only suitable for straight line racing while also being able to turn like the car is on rails. All for the perfectly reasonable price of $49.99 plus tax. Get over it, people. The car is moving onto a global platform and they no longer have to appeal to just the purists who are moaning and complaining that "their" Mustang has gone to the wayside. Having lived overseas, driving on their roads and pay their gas prices, it's rather evident that Ford couldn't bring over the current platform and expect any level of success. Please try not to be so closed minded and consider why Ford is doing what they're doing. The Mustang can no longer have a unique look if they want to embrace their One Ford image. There is still plenty about it that, unfortunately, still carries on with the traditional Mustang design. I've owned four Mustangs and I firmly believe that it's high time for some change. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Date 12/4/2013

WTF have they done? Not only does this not even look like a Mustang, it's a straight up copy of the Z car on so many aspects. I can forgive some of the shortcomings (sure is a lot looking at these pics though), but the front grille design has no character at all. it's too rounded out and that muscular edge look is completely gone. This thing doesn't even scream muscle car, it says front-wheel sports car. I guess the Mustang goes full circle for 15' with the title of "secretary's car" again. I hope this doesn't completely kill the Mustang, but sales will not be good. I've owned 5 Stangs thus far, haven't seen one I disliked this much since the Mustang II. Needless to say, it's already completely off of my purchase radar.

Who Left the Gate Open?

Date 12/4/2013

What a major SELL OUT! This car has absolutely no place representing its predecessors. It's not even from the same gene pool. Here's a comparison: Its like having your champion show dog, a purebred that is prized, and acknowledged by all to be a winner, that is being kept in a trusted kennel, where somebody left the gate wide opened. And in comes a complete street mutt and impregnates your championship dog. The result? the new 2014 Mustang. what an ugly puppy. Who Left the Gate open? Or was the mutt actually escorted in? It may have been time to do something new, but not awful. I guess those 2012 taillights was supposed to warm us up to the change. Its only my opinion, the best represented years of this American iconic car,"The Mustang" is the 2005-2009.

ALBERT

ON SECOND THOUGHT..FORD MADE A MISTAKE WITH THIS DESIGN..WHY WOULD YOU TAKE A AMERICAN ICON..THE TRUE AMERICAN PONY CAR..AND MIX IT WITH EURO..JAPAN..HELL CHINA TOO INTO THIS..WHY FIX SOMETHING SOMETHING THAT WAS NEVER BROKEN? IM TRYING TO LIKE THIS CAR LIKE I TRIED TO LIKE THE MUSTANG II..I UNDERSTAND FORD WANT TO CHANGE THINGS ..KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES..I GUESS I DONT KNOW..EXPERIMENT WITH FOCUS..FIESTA..CARS LIKE THAT ..BUT THE NOT A MUSTANG..ITS FAMILY YOUR SCREWING WITH

I think the people that would like this car have no conception of what it means to own an American classic muscle car like the Mustang. Like others this concept is exactly why I bought my 2014 GT. But hey, Ford should at least boost there 2014 sales.

UGULY CAR! It looks more like a Japanese import than an American muscle car classic! Additionally; Ford seems to be following suit with GM and Chrysler and making all thier cars look alike. They did the same thing in the late 70's and throughout the 80's and, we all know how that turned out. I'll keep my 2010 GT.
