2024-2026 Toyota Tacoma Performance Parts and Accessories: Build the Ultimate Fourth-Gen Taco

The fourth-generation Toyota Tacoma arrived in 2024 as the most significant redesign in the truck's history, and it immediately raised the bar for what a midsize platform can do. Built on the TNGA-F architecture shared with the Tundra and Sequoia, the 2024-2026 Tacoma replaces the old 3.5L V6 with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder making 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, adds an available i-FORCE MAX hybrid producing 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft, and moves most trims to a multi-link coil-spring rear suspension that transforms ride quality and off-road composure compared to the leaf-sprung third gen. Toyota expanded the lineup to eight trim levels, brought back the TRD PreRunner for the first time in years, introduced the overlanding-focused Trailhunter, and loaded the TRD Pro with Fox internal bypass shocks and a disconnecting front sway bar. The factory truck is impressive, but the aftermarket has responded in force, and the right combination of suspension, power, lighting, and protection upgrades turns an already capable Tacoma into something purpose-built for exactly the way you drive.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Redesign Compared to 2023 Tacoma

Eight Trim Levels: Finding Your Starting Point

The 2024-2026 Tacoma rolled out with eight distinct trims, each one tailored to a different kind of driver. Understanding what comes on your truck from the factory is the first step to building it correctly, because the upgrades that make sense for an SR5 daily driver are different from the ones that matter on a TRD Pro or Trailhunter.

The SR is Toyota's base model, powered by the 2.4-liter turbo four on 16-inch steel wheels with fabric seats and a 7-inch instrument cluster. Most SR units go to fleets, but drivers who do not need luxury will find real value here. The SR5 has been the volume leader for three generations running, striking a balance between features and price with 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen, LED fog lights, blind-spot monitoring, and a deck rail system with adjustable cleats.

The TRD PreRunner brings back a fan-favorite nameplate that debuted in 1998. It delivers off-road ride height and styling in a rear-wheel-drive package with better fuel economy than a 4x4, 17-inch dark gray alloys, underbody fuel tank protection, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and automatic climate control. The TRD Sport targets drivers who want a well-optioned Tacoma with sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch machined alloys, LED bed lighting, and sharp on-road manners in both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations.

The TRD Off-Road is where serious trail capability begins from the factory, with Bilstein monotube shocks, 17-inch alloys wrapped in all-terrain rubber, Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, skid plate protection, and the option of a six-speed manual for enthusiasts who prefer a third pedal. The Limited is the luxury play, loaded with 18-inch wheels, leather seats, a power moonroof, JBL premium audio, and Adaptive Variable Suspension that adjusts damping on the fly.

The Trailhunter is Toyota's answer to the overlanding movement, a semi-custom package built from the ground up for off-grid adventure. It ships with an ARB steel rear bumper, Old Man Emu suspension tuned by Toyota, 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires, a high-mount air intake, and a 2,400-watt AC inverter that can power a campsite. The TRD Pro sits at the top, combining the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain with Fox SQ3 internal bypass shocks, IsoDynamic performance seats, a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen, and a disconnecting front sway bar for maximum off-road articulation. Both the Trailhunter and TRD Pro are outstanding starting points for a build, but they are starting points, not finish lines.

What Changed from the Third Gen: Why the Fourth Gen Is a Better Platform to Build

Owners coming from a 2016-2023 Tacoma will immediately feel the difference in the fourth gen, and the changes run far deeper than a new body style. The biggest shift is structural. The TNGA-F platform uses high-strength steel and aluminum body components that cut weight while increasing torsional rigidity, which means the chassis stays flatter and more composed under load, on washboard, and through high-speed desert terrain.

The powertrain swap from the 3.5L V6 to the 2.4L turbo four is a big change on paper, but the numbers tell the story. The turbo four matches the old V6's 278 horsepower while adding 52 lb-ft of torque (317 vs 265), and the i-FORCE MAX hybrid jumps to 326 horsepower and a massive 465 lb-ft. The new eight-speed automatic is smoother and more responsive than the old six-speed, and Toyota kept the six-speed manual with automatic rev-matching for the purists. For owners looking to push the turbo four even further, cold air intakes and engine tuning upgrades from brands like aFe and COBB Tuning are already making noticeable gains on the 2024+ platform.

The suspension architecture is the other game-changer. Most fourth-gen trims replace the third gen's leaf-spring rear with a multi-link coil-spring setup that delivers dramatically better ride quality, more rear wheel travel, and significantly improved handling both on-road and off. Leaf springs are still available on select work-truck trims for heavy-duty payload needs, but the coil-spring rear is the one most owners will want to build on. This new rear geometry means that lift kits and leveling kits designed for the fourth gen work differently than third-gen kits, so make sure you are shopping parts that are engineered for the TNGA-F platform specifically.

Suspension Upgrades: The Foundation of Every Tacoma Build

Suspension is where the Tacoma aftermarket really shines, and on the fourth gen, the new coil-spring rear suspension opens up upgrade possibilities that the old leaf-spring setup simply could not match. Whether you are looking for a mild leveling kit to fit larger tires, a full coilover system for serious trail performance, or a complete suspension overhaul that transforms the truck, the fourth-gen Tacoma has options at every price point from every major brand.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics Suspension for Toyota Tacoma

Fox Racing Shox

Fox is the factory suspension supplier for the TRD Pro Tacoma, and their aftermarket lineup goes well beyond what ships from Toyota. The Fox 2.0 Performance Series is the entry point for owners who want a significant ride quality improvement over stock without breaking the bank. These monotube shocks use race-developed damping technology in a bolt-on package that handles daily driving and moderate trail use with confidence. For owners who want adjustability and higher performance, the Fox 2.5 Factory Race Series coilovers deliver increased oil capacity, remote reservoirs for better heat dissipation, and adjustable ride height that lets you dial in exactly the stance and travel you want. The Fox 2.5 is the performance sweet spot for most Tacoma builds, offering the right balance of capability, durability, and value. At the top of the Fox lineup, the internal bypass shocks used on the factory TRD Pro can be upgraded to Fox 3.0 Factory Race Series units for owners pushing into high-speed desert running where heat management and damping consistency over long runs become critical.

Bilstein

Bilstein has been a staple of the Tacoma aftermarket for decades, and their product line covers every budget and use case on the fourth gen. The Bilstein 5100 Series is the most popular shock upgrade in the entire Tacoma ecosystem, a monotube design with a digressive piston that provides a noticeable improvement in ride quality and body control over factory shocks at a price point that makes sense for daily drivers and weekend trail users alike. The 5100 is available in both front strut and rear shock configurations, and the front units offer adjustable ride height positions for a mild level without a separate spacer kit. Moving up, the Bilstein 6112 Series is a complete front coilover assembly that replaces the factory strut and spring with a single performance unit featuring adjustable ride height, a larger-diameter shock body, and a tuned Bilstein coil spring. The 6112 is the go-to choice for Tacoma owners who want a real coilover experience without the complexity of a remote reservoir setup. At the top of the Bilstein range, the 8112 ZoneControl is a full DSA+ (Damping Speed Adjusted) coilover with a 60mm shock body, external remote reservoir, and a triple-piston design that provides five stages of compression damping adjustment. The 8112 is built for owners who demand the highest level of tunability and performance from their suspension.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics

Icon has earned a massive following in the Tacoma community by building suspension components that prioritize ride quality and adjustability. Their 2.5 Series coilovers use precision-machined aluminum bodies and Icon's proprietary CDCV (Compression Damping Control Valve) technology, which gives the owner adjustable compression damping accessible from the engine bay without removing anything. Icon coilovers are particularly popular with overlanding and expedition builders because their valving delivers a progressive feel that works beautifully across a wide range of speeds and terrain, from highway cruising to slow-speed rock crawling. Icon also offers complete stage-based suspension systems that pair front coilovers with matching rear shocks, upper control arms, and leaf spring or coil spring upgrades for a fully integrated setup. For the fourth-gen Tacoma's coil-spring rear, Icon's rear shock options take full advantage of the increased travel the new geometry provides.

Eibach

Eibach brings a different approach to the Tacoma suspension market, with a product line that emphasizes springs and complete stage-based kits rather than individual shocks. Their Pro-Truck Coilover systems pair Eibach's precision-wound springs with gas-charged monotube dampers for a balanced setup that improves both ride quality and off-road capability. Eibach's Stage 2R kits are popular with Tacoma owners who want a measured lift with matched front and rear components, including rear spring upgrades that complement the front coilovers. The Eibach spring advantage is real: their springs maintain consistent rate over years of use without sagging, which is a common issue with cheaper aftermarket springs. For fourth-gen owners who want a conservative 1.5 to 2 inch lift with factory-quality ride, Eibach's kits are hard to beat.

Choosing the Right Setup

The suspension upgrade path for the 2024-2026 Tacoma depends on how you use the truck. For daily drivers who want a level stance and improved ride, a Bilstein 5100 kit or Eibach Pro-Truck setup is the smart play. For trail-focused builds that need adjustability and increased travel, Fox 2.5 or Icon 2.5 CDCV coilovers paired with matching rear shocks provide the performance without the complexity of a race-level system. For high-speed desert, competition, or owners who simply want the best suspension money can buy, Fox 3.0, Bilstein 8112, or Icon 3.0 setups deliver race-proven damping, massive oil capacity, and the kind of heat resistance that keeps performance consistent run after run. No matter which direction you go, make sure your lift kit or coilover system is specifically designed for the fourth-gen TNGA-F platform, because the geometry is different enough from the third gen that older parts will not work correctly.

Power and Engine Upgrades: Getting More from the 2.4L Turbo

The fourth-gen Tacoma's turbocharged 2.4-liter engine responds well to bolt-on modifications, and the aftermarket is catching up quickly. A cold air intake is one of the first modifications most owners make, replacing the restrictive factory airbox with a high-flow filter and intake tube that reduces inlet temperatures and improves throttle response. Brands like S&B Filters build Tacoma-specific intakes with sealed airbox designs that keep hot engine bay air out of the filter while flowing significantly more air than stock.

On the tuning side, COBB Tuning has already released Accessport support for the 2024+ Tacoma, giving owners the ability to adjust boost targets, fuel mapping, and transmission shift points through a simple plug-in device. aFe Power offers both engine upgrades and charge pipe kits that eliminate the restrictive factory intercooler piping, reducing pressure drop and improving boost response. For owners running the i-FORCE MAX hybrid, the tuning landscape is still developing, but the turbo-only 2.4L already responds with noticeable seat-of-the-pants gains from intake and tune combinations.

On the exhaust side, the fourth-gen Tacoma benefits from both sound and performance improvements with an aftermarket cat-back exhaust system. aFe's Rock Basher series and other manufacturers offer both single-exit and dual-exit cat-back kits that reduce backpressure while giving the turbo four a deeper, more aggressive tone that the factory exhaust simply does not deliver.

Lighting: See the Trail and Be Seen

The fourth-gen Tacoma's lighting upgrades cover everything from a simple fog light swap to a complete front-end transformation. Toyota's factory headlights are decent, but aftermarket headlight assemblies from brands like Morimoto and AlphaRex deliver dramatically better output with full LED projectors, sequential turn signals, and dynamic DRL signatures that modernize the truck's face. Morimoto's XB LED headlights are known for their outstanding beam pattern and build quality, while AlphaRex PRO-Series units offer bold styling with excellent light output at a more accessible price.

Fog light upgrades are one of the most impactful and affordable lighting modifications on the Tacoma. Amber LED fog kits improve visibility in dust, rain, and snow, while high-output white LED kits significantly increase the light spread ahead of the truck for night driving. For trail and overlanding use, auxiliary lighting from Baja Designs, Rigid Industries, and Diode Dynamics mounts to the roof rack, bumper, or A-pillar to flood the trail with light far beyond what any headlight can deliver. At the rear, aftermarket taillights from AlphaRex, Morimoto, and Spyder add sequential signals and LED upgrades that improve both visibility and style.

Protection, Armor, and Exterior Upgrades

The fourth-gen Tacoma's body and frame are tougher than any previous generation, but serious off-road use still demands additional protection. Aftermarket front bumpers from brands like ADD, C4 Fabrication, and DV8 Off-Road replace the factory plastic bumper with steel or aluminum units that mount winches, provide recovery points, and protect the front end during trail impacts. Skid plates from DV8, RCI, and others shield the engine, transmission, and transfer case from rocks and debris, which is essential for any Tacoma that leaves the pavement regularly.

Fender flares serve double duty on a lifted Tacoma, providing the tire clearance needed for larger rubber while protecting the body from rocks, mud, and debris kicked up by wider tires. Rough Country and Bushwacker both offer bolt-on options for the fourth gen in pocket and sport styles that match the Tacoma's aggressive lines. Nerf bars and side steps add both functionality and protection, with options ranging from simple running boards with drop steps for easier entry to heavy-duty rock sliders that shield the rocker panels during off-road use. For the exterior as a whole, the exterior upgrades category covers everything from grille inserts to mirror caps to trail-ready accessories that set your Tacoma apart.

Bed, Cargo, and Interior Upgrades

The Tacoma's bed is where it earns its keep as a truck, and protecting it while maximizing its usefulness is a priority for most owners. Tonneau covers are available for both the 5-foot and 6-foot bed configurations in soft roll-up, hard folding, and retractable designs from TruXedo, Access, BAK, and others. A good tonneau cover improves fuel economy by reducing drag, keeps cargo dry and secure, and gives the truck a cleaner look. Bed accessories like bed liners, bed rugs, storage drawers, and LED bed lighting make the cargo area more useful for both work and adventure, while bed rack kits add a mounting platform for rooftop tents, gear boxes, or additional lighting above the bed rails. Tailgate upgrades add functionality with dampers, locks, and replacement handles.

On top, roof racks from Sherpa, Front Runner, and Prinsu give overlanders and adventure builders the cargo platform they need for tents, gear, and auxiliary lighting, with options ranging from half-height low-profile racks to full-length expedition platforms. Inside the cab, protecting the fourth gen's redesigned interior starts with quality floor mats from WeatherTech and Husky that keep mud, water, and debris off the factory carpet.

Wheels, Tires, and Gear Packages

The right wheel and tire combination transforms both the look and capability of a fourth-gen Tacoma. Most owners building a trail or overland rig move to a 17-inch wheel paired with a 33-inch or 285/70R17 all-terrain tire, which fits under most trims with a leveling kit or mild lift without rubbing issues. For more aggressive builds running 2.5 to 3 inches of lift, 34-inch and even 35-inch tires become an option with the right lift kit and potential fender trimming. Stage 3 offers complete gear packages that combine wheels, tires, and sometimes suspension components into a single purchase, making it easier to get everything you need in one order with guaranteed fitment for the fourth gen.

Build Paths: Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3

We named the company Stage 3 Motorsports for a reason: every great build follows a progression, and understanding where you want to end up helps you spend your money wisely along the way.

Stage 1: Daily Driver and Light Trail. This is the build path for owners who want a better-looking, better-riding Tacoma that can handle fire roads, camping access, and light trail use without compromise on daily driving comfort. Start with a Bilstein 5100 front and rear kit or an Eibach Pro-Truck leveling setup for a clean 1.5 to 2 inch level. Add a set of 17-inch aftermarket wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires, a quality tonneau cover to protect the bed, and a set of amber LED fog lights for visibility. This setup improves the stance, ride quality, and capability of the stock Tacoma without changing the truck's character or maintenance needs.

Stage 2: Trail-Ready Performance. Stage 2 builds are for owners who regularly hit trails, take weekend trips on forest roads, and want a truck that handles moderate off-road conditions with confidence. Step up to Fox 2.5 or Icon 2.5 CDCV coilovers in the front with matching rear shocks for adjustable damping and 2 to 3 inches of lift. Pair with 33-inch or 34-inch all-terrain tires, an aftermarket front bumper with integrated winch mount, skid plates for engine and transmission protection, rock sliders for rocker panel defense, and a roof rack or bed rack for cargo. Add a cold air intake and COBB Accessport tune for better throttle response and power delivery on and off the trail. This is the sweet spot for most Tacoma enthusiasts.

Stage 3: Full Build. This is the truck you take to Moab, run in the desert, or use as a full expedition vehicle. Start with a premium coilover system like Bilstein 8112, Fox 3.0 Factory Race, or Icon 3.0 with remote reservoirs and full adjustability. Pair with extended-travel upper control arms, a 6-inch lift kit or custom long-travel setup, 35-inch tires, and reinforced drivetrain components. Add steel bumpers front and rear, full underbody armor, auxiliary lighting from Baja Designs or Rigid, a dual-exit performance exhaust, rooftop tent on a full-length bed rack, and a comprehensive engine tune. This is where the fourth-gen Tacoma becomes something truly special, a truck built for exactly the way you use it with no compromises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will suspension parts from a 2016-2023 Tacoma fit the 2024-2026 fourth gen?
No. The fourth-gen Tacoma uses the TNGA-F platform with different suspension geometry, mounting points, and a multi-link coil-spring rear on most trims. Shocks, coilovers, lift kits, and leveling kits must be specifically designed for the 2024+ platform. Third-gen parts will not bolt on correctly and should not be forced to fit.

What is the best first suspension upgrade for a 2024 Tacoma?
For most owners, a Bilstein 5100 front and rear kit is the best bang-for-the-buck entry point. It provides a noticeable improvement in ride quality and body control, offers adjustable front ride height for a mild level, and requires no other modifications. If you want more adjustability and lift, a Bilstein 6112 front coilover paired with 5100 rear shocks is the next step up.

Can I run 33-inch tires on a 2024 Tacoma with just a leveling kit?
Yes. A 1.5 to 2 inch front leveling kit will clear a 33-inch tire (265/70R17 or 285/70R17) on most fourth-gen trims without rubbing issues at full lock. Some owners trim the front mud flap for extra clearance. Going larger than 33 inches typically requires a full lift kit and possibly fender modifications.

Is the i-FORCE MAX hybrid worth it for off-road use?
The hybrid adds significant low-end torque (465 lb-ft vs 317 on the turbo-only), which is a huge advantage on trails where you need precise throttle control at low speeds. The extra weight of the hybrid system is minimal, and the electric motor's instant torque response makes crawling and technical driving noticeably easier. The hybrid also enables a higher-output onboard power system, which is valuable for overlanding setups that run lights, fridges, and electronics.

What exhaust system sounds best on the 2.4L turbo Tacoma?
The turbo four has a different character than the old 3.5L V6, and exhaust selection is largely a matter of preference. Dual-exit cat-back kits provide a deeper, fuller tone and balanced sound, while single-exit systems tend to be slightly louder with a sportier rasp. aFe's Rock Basher series is one of the most popular options for the 2024+ platform, offering stainless construction and a tone that complements the turbo four without being obnoxious on daily drives.
