Keeping PCV oil blow-by out of your F150 5.0L's engine can help your mighty Coyote V8 run that much cleaner, and JLT's 3.0 Passenger Side Oil Separator is your truck's winning ticket. JLT's 3.0 Oil Separator is an all-around improvement on their older oil catch can systems with three times the capacity and an improved internal separator design all in a convenient, plug-and-play, and hassle-free package that JLT is known for. The JLT 3.0 Oil Separator offers up a great way to keep engine PCV oil blow-by out of your truck's intake stream which helps maximize your truck's rated fuel octane and helps keep your throttle body and intake manifold cleaner to avoid reliability and maintenance problems. The JLT 3.0 Oil Separator easily drops into place of your truck's passenger's side PCV line, allowing you to get cleaner air into your awesome Coyote motor in practically no time.
Multistage Separator Design Housed in a Billet Aluminum Can with 3oz Capacity
Each JLT 3.0 Oil Separator features high-quality construction in a simple, drop-in package so that you can give your truck efficient PCV oil separation in only a few minutes. The 3.0 Oil Separators are built around a CNC machined billet aluminum catch can with three fluid ounces of fluid capacity, which is triple of JLT's original can designs. The has a completely redesigned, multi-stage internal oil separation system that is much more effective at both capturing and percolating oil blow-by vapors so that your engine runs at its absolute best. Each oil separator kit comes with pre-cut PCV lines topped off with plug-and-play PCV fittings that allow you to drop the can right into place of your stock PCV line. The can has a knurled base that allows you to easily unscrew it for emptying capture oil and moisture. The can is available in both a clear satin or black powder coat finish, which are available from our drop-down menu above.

2011 F-150 XLT
Now most people will say that a catch can on a non-forcred induction engine is a waste of money, I myself used to believed this as well. I purchased my 2011 F-150 XLT used with 134k highway miles. Right out of the gate it ran great until one day my truck started having trouble maintaining idle at a stop. It would fluctuate RPM between 350-500 and would occasionally stall, at one point even dangerously stalling in an intersection. At this point I decided to take her to Ford and have warranty work performed. After the first visit Ford informed me the issue was possibly due to the fact that the transmission fluid was low and the truck would shut off as a fail safe to prevent harm, which to me sounded like a load of crap but the issue did stop, temporarily. After a week the issue started again, this time Ford kept the truck for a week and changed out the MAF as well as other things. This fixed the issue for two a days, shocker. Now tired of taking the truck to Ford I took matters into my own hands. Knowing the MAF was brand new I suspected it might be a throttle body issue and started there. After taking off the TB the issue was clear, the TB had gunk on the manifold side that was obstructing the play on the butterfly valve. I cleaned the TB and the issue stopped, after further reading I found that the 5.0 suffers from a lot of oil blow by on the passengers side PCV, hence my purchase of the JLT catch can. After putting 1k miles on the truck and checking the catch can I have noticed a teaspoon of oil collected at the bottom. This was enough proof for me to know this purchase was money well spent and will help prevent future gunk buildup on the TB and on the intake manifold. I highly recommend this part for your 5.0L Coyote engine.

2013 Ford F150 Lariat Supercrew 5.0
I was skeptical at first. I figured how could something so simple, be so important? Well...I have driven it about 300 miles so far, and have about a teaspoon of oil in the catch can. This oil would have otherwise been dumped into my intake manifold and burned with my fuel. The truck runs smoother, and gets better MPG. A MUST HAVE!!! My only regret is not buying this sooner!

Took me like 10 min to install. Super easy and everything lined up fine. To totally honest I was not really expecting much, but I was really surprised with the result. I did a 500 mile trip towing my 8,500 lbs trailer. I went roughly thru about. 40 gallons of gas (due to some nasty heads winds I went through more gas than normal) and when I checked the catch can when I got home I had about 3 table spoons of oil. Totally worth the money.

The install on it was impossibly simple for anyone to do. It also works as advertised. After about 85 miles with it on there was about a table spoon of oil at the bottom. Which is an obvious issue the stealership needs to remedy. Would recommend.

Fit was pretty good, and I really like the location of the can with the provided mount! It looks like it belongs right there, like a factory option! Just installed so it's too early to tell how well it will work, but I'm sure it will do its job!

Well worth the money. Did an oil change whenever I installed it and checked it when I hit 500 miles, already has 1 ounce of oil in the can. Only complaint is I think the old mount on the firewall was a better design. The mount on the battery box just looks out of place cause it sticks up so tall over everything and is a little wobbly since it's just on plastic

Really easy install, all of the hoses were the correct length. Only thing wrong is the threaded clip wasn't lined up with the hole in my plastic piece by the firewall, had to open the hole one size bigger. Have not looked to see how much oil collected yet. 4 stars only cause I had to do some extra drilling. Fast shipping!

I don't quite understand the importance or significance of this component? Could you elaborate this please?
Asked by:
Joseph
- 6/24/2017
Your truck's engine has a Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System that vents pressure from your engine back into your intake stream. During that venting, small amounts of oil (known as blow-by) can escape the crankcase and make their way into in the intake stream which coats your intake, throttle body, manifold, and valves over time and also degrades your fuel octane due to the fact that oil vapor has effective octane of about 46. JLT's catch can captures blow-by before it hits your truck's intake stream which helps prevent long-term maintenance issues and octane degradation.

What is the difference between the driver side and the passenger side kits? Would only running one suffice or would two, one on each side of the ccv hoses be needed?
Asked by:
Dalton R.
- 4/5/2017
Those hose lengths and the mounting positions are different. The cans are functionally the same. In general, the 5.0Ls suffer from far more blow-by out of their passenger's side than their driver's side PCVs, and a passenger's side can is usually effective at reducing blow-by related issues on its own.

I was wondering if this catch can had been used on a F-150 with Cobra Jet intake manifold installed?
Asked by:

It can be, though you may have to reroute or even extend some of the hosing to reach the PCV connections.

Should you install a catch can for the passenger and drivers side? Is it significantly more advantageous to have both rather than just the passenger side?
Asked by:
Joseph
- 1/8/2018
The driver's side PCV suffers from a lot less blow-by than the passenger's side, which is why the passenger's side is an effective upgrade. If you're trying to maximize your amount of capture, then using both a driver's side can and passenger's side can wouldn't be a bad idea. If you're just looking to prevent octane degradation, then a passenger's side can is all that's really needed.

Not a lot. The lines are OE-style PCV lines, which have a bit of flex, but not a whole ton of movement ability.

My question is about the mounting of the canister, My vehicle is a 2016 Roush supercharged F150 and I've seen other show the canister mounted on the firewall and others show not mounted but just hanging in front of the coil covers. In your Oil separator kit for my vehicle where will the canister be located and will it be mounted or not? Thank you

JLT's 3.0 Oil Separators use a firewall-side mounting position.

On this product I was wandering is this reusable? Do we just dump what’s inside and slap it back on?
Asked by:
Fermin Rivera
- 9/5/2018
Yep, you reuse the can and filtration/percolator element. The bottom half of the can unscrews from the portion with the fittings, allowing you to safely remove captured oil and condensation before screwing the lower portion back on.

Received my catch can, just curious is there supposed to be some sort of filter element that actually sits in the portion of the can? Mine came completely empty with a very small screen attached to the inside top cap
Asked by:
Jzmeinert
- 8/30/2019
There is not. This can works through percolation, and a full screen isn't really required.
