2011-2014 F150 3.5L EcoBoost Airaid Complete SynthaMax Cold Air Intake Kit (Dry) 401-101

So this air intake is great and I'm glad I chose it but it has a lot of hidden downsides. Pros: better fuel exonomy, my truck breathes better, has noticeably more power, slightly smoother throttle response, idles slower, has a slightly lower exhaust note (without aftermarket exhaust) and the turbos sound nice. Cons: I assembled and installed this on a super hot day 95 degrees and I was sweating and frustrated by the heat which slowed me down but it took me about three hours to assemble and install. Once I was ready to put it in the top hose slid right on but the bottom one met at an awkward angle and I had to man handle and tighten the hell out of it to make sure it wouldn't slip off. Then when I sintalled the box the intake fits in, it only fit 2 out of 3 of the sides. The side facing the driver did not fit in its slot no matter how much I retried and muscled it. Also the rubber they provide to seal the container from the hood doesn't reach all the way around and the hood doesn't seal on all four sides plus the bottom. I drove it like this (stock) for about three weeks. At first I was rather upset because my gas mileage went from 15 (with bed cover) to about 11 and I couldn't think of why this expensive air filter would do that to my engine. But after about three weeks the computer finally relearned its air/fuel mapping and my gas mileage improved slightly better than before but still not great. The other day I was taking a trip to Oregon for the eclipse and about 5 minutes before I left I thought it might be a good idea to seal off all the openings in the air intake so that it gets proper suction. I taped the bottom side, and I put tape around the edge of their provided gasket and continued it around the edges that supposedly don't need one. Once the tape job looked pretty good I closed the hood and started it up and could instantly tell the air intake wasn't sucking so Hard because it didn't have to fight to pull air from the engine bay just cold air from the wheel well. On my trip to Oregon, I was getting 19 MPG the whole way there (all highway) and about 15 in the city. So about 3 mpg better than before the tape. Over all this is a great product that is worth the money but be warned that patience and some jury rigging is necessary.
