Customer Question I recently got a 6" lift, 35X12.5X20 tires, new catalytic converters, O2 sensors, spark plugs and coil packs on my 2016 F150 3.5L ecoboost and now it shifts into the higher gears too fast. I'll be going 35mph and it will shift into 6th. Shifts great in sport mode, but i hate the way it downshifts. Will I be able to choose a program for the shifting, or set it how i want it to shift?

Asked by: Jeremy - 9/10/2023
Customer Answer The tunes included with this this tuner do include different shifting strategies as well as it being a custom tune, it will have exact axle ratio and tire size so the shifting is optimized for your setup.

Customer Question How do I update my 5Star tune files after I purchase a cold air intake from your site? Is there a form I fill out or do I need to call someone?

Asked by: Garatte - 6/4/2023
Customer Answer You just need to fill out the return form that you can find in the "F150 Custom Tuning" section at the bottom center of your screen in the "My Account" column. Give us a call if you are unable to locate the form.

Customer Answer This device does store a copy of the factory tune in case you need to turn the vehicle back to stock.

Customer Question Will these tunes work on the 2021 F150s with the 3.5?

Asked by: 2021f150 - 7/8/2021
Customer Answer Unfortunately, SCT does not have tuning support for the 2021 F150s as of yet, though we expect that tuning support will be available here in the near future.

Customer Question What are the most recommended tunes for 2019 3.5 Eco, 4x4? I'm personally looking for an efficient daily drive mode to gain MPGs, what can I realistically expect to gain MPG wise? Thanks just tough to decipher all the tunes offered.

Asked by: Rusty Shackelford - 6/23/2021
Customer Answer Your choice of tune will somewhat depend on what fuel octane is available in your area. In general, we recommend getting a Performance and Performance/Tow tune in your highest available octane, and a Performance/Tow tune in 87 octane in case you end up somewhere that doesn't have premium fuel. As far as mileage gains, in general, you can see up to 1-2mpg gains using 91 octane Performance/Tow tunes in highway driving. However, that is extremely dependent on the heaviness of your foot. Some folks tend to smash the throttle to feel the new levels of power, and end up LOSING fuel economy. As long as you're driving like you want to get good fuel economy, you should pick up some MPGs.

Customer Question 2020 f150, how will this tune affect the stock driving modes of eco., sport, weather, etc?

Asked by: Dave - 1/31/2021
Customer Answer The various driving modes will still technically work, since they only change up transmission shifting and throttle sensitivity. That being said, since 5-Star's tune already overhaul shifting and throttle sensitivity as a baseline, you'll probably find yourself using those modes less.

Customer Question What, if any, mpg gains would there be on a 87 performance/towing on a 2019 Ecoboost 4x4 F150? All stock, and daily driving getting around 18mpg currently.

Asked by: mechanicalhead - 2/13/2020
Customer Answer Likely not a ton. You may get 1 extra MPG if you drive fairly conservatively. There's just not a ton to be gained on 87 octane.

Customer Question Will this work on the 2018 f150 3.3l?

Asked by: B - 8/11/2018
Customer Answer Unfortunately, 5-Star does not currently have tunes for the 3.3L V6 F150s, though they are hoping to get one of those trucks into their shop soon for tune testing.

Customer Question Can the 93 octane tune be used if I can only find 92 octane fuel or should I just stick with the 91 octane tune?

Asked by: Dean - 8/8/2018
Customer Answer You should use the 91 octane tune. You should never use a tune meant for a higher octane than what you're running due to chances of detonation and timing issues. If you want a 92 octane tune, 5-Star can provide them, though you will need to call us directly at 623-434-5277.

Customer Question I am interested in this tuner for my 2017 3.5L EB but was wondering what the power gains were with the 87 economy, 87 performance/tow and 91 performance/tow levels. Also can this tuner recalibrate tire size and axle ratio?

Asked by: Andrew - 4/6/2018
Customer Answer 5-Star does not offer Economy tunes for the 2017-2018 F150s with a ten-speed, since the Economy driving mode by Ford made 5-Star's economy tunes obsolete. A dyno graph for 5-Star's 87 Octane Performance/Tow Tune is here. While I don't have a 91 octane Performance/Tow graph, the overall power curve will be similar, though power gains will be noticeably higher.
