2016 F150 4x4
Purchased this setup to go along with my 5100 rears. My ultimate goal was to make the truck more planted, less bouncy, and level it out to the rear. I set the coilover assembly at .5 and used a 2 Rough Country spacer ontop for a total of 2.5 of lift. The truck is a 2016 F150 4X4 3.5L Supercrew which now sits dead level. The ride, at first, was very stiff and over bumps/dips would cause some rattles inside the cab. After 50-100 miles the ride has settled and became firm, but not stiff. The truck is now very planted and rides great on road without the floaty factory ride. The install time was about 2 hours per side on the floor with standard tools, an impact, and spring compressors. Impact is an optional tool that isnt needed but did make some things much easier. Spring Compressors are a must to disassemble the factory strut and transfer over the factory top hat. Removing the upper balljoint, tie rod, swaybar, and axle nut is all thats needed to remove the factory strut. If you had spacers ontop of the factory strut like I did, you will also need to loosen the LCA bolts to give you more room. Overall, the install was well worth it for the HUGE improvement in ride quality on road along with the added performance offroad.

I installed the 6112’s with the 5160’s. I set the 6112’s at 1.75 and the truck still has about 1/2” take. The ride of the springs/shocks is unbelievably better than stock. I’ve had 5100’s ride height shock and rear 5100’s on a ‘12 Dodge... the 6112/5160 is the setup to use.

2016 Ford F150 Reg. Cab. 6.5 Box
Have a 2016 F150 Reg. Cab 6.5 Box. 6400 hundred lb payload package, rear locker, and 5.0 engine. Lighter in weight then other models, but was going for just a 1 inch lift with better shocks and springs then factory. But, got 1.75 inch of lift on the 1 inch setting. Was not not wanting to put the CV axle shafts at to much of an angle. I would say that a lot of after market items are not tested on different types of vehicles. So, I believe you are not going to get an answer from some about question you might have. For instance, I called Bilstein, and, no own ever called back. Was going to ask them questions about their product on this model truck I have and if the clip setting were true to the advertised height settings? The front of truck doesn't bottom out anymore on small dips, etc, but it did give it a much firmer ride. (Which I can live with!) No more front end body roll in corners. I also put there remote 5160 shocks on the rear. Took out the stock 1.5 inch block and installed a 2 inch tappered block to give the truck a little bit of rake. Haul an ATV and pull a trailer (4800 lb approx). I am sure the truck will handle better while hauling or pulling the trailer or both now. The suspension also handles the wash-board gravel roads better then before. I only give 3 stars, because of Bilstein not calling me back, and the advertised clip settings being incorrect. Minor, but important in some ways.

Installed with Zone 4 inch lift. Fit and finish is good. The ride and handling improvements have made my truck a pleasure to drive. I was regretting my F150 because of the way it handled from the factory. With the B8's in the front and the Fox 2.0's in the rear, the truck handles the way I think it should have from the factory.

Got these along with 5160 rears and Tuff Country UCAs. Total install time for myself and a buddy was 4 hours including setup and clean up. Ride is phenomenally better than my stock shocks with 2 spacer. Firmed everything up on the street, makes unimproved fire roads buttery smooth at 20-40mph for me. Can't beat this Cost/Performance ratio.

I purchased these for a 2021 F-150 and they work great. I love the way these ride compared to to stock FX4 shocks and I wish I had done this sooner. The ride is firm and smooth in a good way and much more planted feeling. No more bouncing over every bump in the road making the truck shutter. I highly recommend these.

Was apprehensive at first because they used to not say they worked on the 14s but talking to the people at stage 3 they assured me they will be just fine I installed them today and wow they ride amazing on the full 2in lift setting. With the strut spacer the truck was a 1/4in higher than these maxed out but it doesn’t bother me it gets the job done and they work great so far.

Customer Question Can you install these with a 6 inch lift with spacer?

Asked by: Tyler Kalmus - 10/30/2024
Customer Answer They can be set at stock height so you can use the spacer most lift kits come with. Bilstein does not recommend using any of the additional lift height options in combo with a spacer.

Customer Question I have a 2014 F150 5.0 XLT 4WD. I was looking at the Bilstein 6112's and noticed that the website guarantees the fitment for a 2014 - 2020. My understanding is that the weight difference of the 15+ and 14 may effect the product's capability; which was what majority of the other shops/stores have told me. I was wondering what your opinion on the matter is. Will it be ok to but it on a 2014?

Asked by: David Nam - 2/14/2024
Customer Answer The weight difference on the front end of a 2014 F150 compared to a 2015+ F150 is very minimal and less than the weight of an average passenger. We have used this kit on the 2014 trucks for many years and have had no issues.

Customer Question How will the springs that come with these shocks handle the extra weight of the 3.0L Powerstroke diesel engine?

Asked by: Adam - 9/18/2023
Customer Answer The spring rate on these shocks is designed for the gas engine models, so you most likely will not see the full advertised height on the 3.0l diesel equipped trucks. We would recommend using something like the 5100 series that reuses your factory spring if you had to have the full advertised lift height.

Customer Question As for leveling a 2020 f150 4wd, while either going with the 5100 or the 6112, do they both have to be maxed out to level?

Asked by: Rich - 9/18/2023
Customer Answer Typically the difference in rake between front and rear is around the 2" mark, so if you were trying for a true level than the top setting would be what is recommended on a 4wd truck with a stock size rear block.

Customer Question These work on 2014 model year? How much lift will these net at the highest clip location on the heavier 2014 model?

Asked by: tyler c - 2/7/2023
Customer Answer This kit will bolt up to 2014 F150. However, we can't guarantee what kind of ride height you'll get. They're rated for up to 2" of leveling on the 2015-2020 F150s. If I were to take an educated guess, the most you'd see is probably 1.75" of leveling.

Customer Question Looking to replace my factory strut, I have a level spacer on top already. I am curious if I leave the spacer on.. does it affect the ride quality of the 6112 strut? I would like to get rid of the spacer if possible so I can get a smoother on road ride without the whole darn cab shaking over bumps in the road.

Asked by: Brice W - 1/14/2022
Customer Answer If your spacer of choice is already affecting your truck's ride quality, then it will probably have an affect on the Bilsteins. Your best bet would probably be to use the 6112s on their own, unless you need the extra ride height to clear your choice of tires. If you aren't sure. Customer Question I currently have 2" spacer leveling kit on my 2016 F150. Would you recommend I remove those spacers and set the 6112's at their highest height setting or leave the spacers in and set the 6112's at 0"? Thanks

Asked by: Moe - 11/23/2021
Customer Answer You can honestly go either way. Leaving the spacers and setting the 6112s at a 0" stock height would likely get you a bit softer ride, since there would be less preload on the spring. However, some people like a bit stiffer of a ride with less body roll, and setting the Bilsteins at 2" and ditching the spacer would accomplish that.

Customer Question Would running these at the .5” or 1” setting with 2” spacers give any improvement in ride quality vs just maxing out the strut lift since there would technically be less spring pre-load?

Asked by: magneticfx4 - 5/10/2021
Customer Answer You could technically run a spacer and use the 6112s at a lower ride height. It's tough to say how much difference it would make versus using the 6112s at their full ride height, but in theory, the lower preload would help your on-road ride to some extent.

Customer Question Will stock UCA's work with these set at their max height?

Asked by: j - 8/10/2020
Customer Answer In general, we don't usually recommend jumping to UCAs until 2.5" of ride height. At the 2" max ride height of the 6112s, you likely wouldn't need aftermarket UCAs if you're using this kit predominantly on the street. If you're using your truck off-road on a regular basis and fairly aggressively, then you may want to consider a UCA swap.

Customer Question How are the Bilstein 6112 springs better than stock springs on the F150? I understand the strut is better but I'd like some insight about the spring that comes with the coil over setup and whether it is better than stock. Thank you for your time.

Asked by: Cam - 6/4/2020
Customer Answer They're not really "better", they're just different and tuned more toward performance and handling than the stock springs. The stock spring rate on the 2015-2020 F150s is something like 400-450in/lbs. Bilstein's springs in the kit are at 500in/lbs, according to Bilstein. The increase in spring rate helps reduce body roll and aids in impact absorption, though in theory, ride quality can be a bit stiffer. However, there's a lot of factors that play into ride quality, and the 6112s ride very nicely on the road.

Customer Answer You likely wouldn't see too much settling, due to how the ride height preload works, but if you're concerned about maximizing ride height, then a 3" capable coilover like the Halo Lifts Boss coilovers would likely be a better choice.

Customer Question What spring rate does this kit come with? Also, is it possible to get a different spring rate?

Asked by: Jack M. - 9/20/2017
Customer Answer The spring rate on the included spring is 500in-lbs. Unfortunately, Bilstein does not offer out-of-the-box spring rate options at this time.

Customer Question Trying to decide between these and The Eibach set up with coils. Any idea how much lift the Bilsteins would add?

Asked by: JohnO38 - 9/11/2017
Customer Answer The Bilstein 6112s add 2" of front ride height. The Eibachs add 2" of ride height on their own, or 2.7" of ride height if you also use their Pro-Lift Spring Kit. However, the Bilstein 6112s do have a larger shock body, and would provide improved off-road capability over the Eibachs in theory.
