The factory Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System is your 2011 to 2014 F150's biggest weakness, because it allows a ton of oil blow-by that then coats your intercooler and intake valves in muck causing the infamous "EcoBoost Shudder" and increased valve coking down the way. The can's dual inlet valves bring oil into the can which is then cooled, condensed, and finally collected in the can's large reservoir. 2013 Ford F-150

The UPR dual valve catch can with clean side separator for the 3.5L Ecoboost motor is a very well made product. The hoses are cut to length with factory connections. I ordered it when it was first announced and received it within 3-4 business days. I've driven with it installed for a week now and 200 miles around town and have drained about 3-4 ounces for the first drain yesterday. It appeared to be 90% fuel / 5% oil / 5% water. I've noticed my mpg's increasing several tenths but haven't driven enough to fully test. I also seem to not be seeing high boost levels (17-19 psi tuned) like I use to see when merging onto highway. I did replace the drain valve that comes with the unit with a 1/4 ball valve. I would recommend UPR's dual valve catch can and the folks at Stage 3 Motorsports.

2013 Ford F-150 Ecoboost

Works flawlessly. Cleaned intercooler and drove for a thousand miles before installation. Pulled intercooler and inspected, decent amount of oil inside. Cleaned intercooler and installed catch can. Drained every 200 miles and after a thousand miles I had filled up a 20oz pepsi bottle. Pulled the intercooler, and it was bone dry. On the other end of the spectrum, UPR customer service is horrendous. Stage3 drop shipped this through UPR directly. When I received my package, I had everything for the new kit with factory ends including hoses, but my css was the old style for the oil cap. After calling UPR directly they told me they had run out of the new style and were sending them out with the old style css. When asked how they expected that to work when all my hoses were for the new style, they responded that they didn't know. They asked me if I wanted them to send me the new filter...come on now.

2012 Ford F-150 Ecoboost

Installation was a royal PAIN. Installed as the directions and videos showed. Hood would not close, not even close. The hose connectors screwed into the can were long and straight for the quick connect fittings already on the hoses, not L shaped as pictured. Called UPR and told them about the issue. They shipped me a longer mounting bolt with two 1/2 inch spaces to lower the can 1 inch. Hood still would close. I drilled a hole in the cross member above the radiator an inch and a half to the left, and drilled a hole on the mounting bracket an inch and half forward. This moved the can further to the center of the truck and further back towards the radiator. The grill bracket on the hood still comes into contact with the top hose when the hood is close, but doesn't pinch the hose. I don't think UPR checked hood clearance when they decided to change from the L-shape hose connector to the long straight connectors with the large hose quick connect fittings. After MUCH frustration installing the can, I only hope it performs as advertised.

The can is awesome and does the job (I couldn't believe the crap it caught the first 2 weeks). I recommend cleaning out your CAC at the same time as you install this for a fresh start. This can has been keeping my CAC clean of oil. Make sure you reference the directions posted by Stage 3 as the instructions that come with it are hard to read.

2012 Ford F150 Ecoboost

I never knew how much PCV blowby these engines produced until I decided to purchase this product. It is by far thee single most impressive performance part I have installed on my truck. The kit had all hoses premade to length with nice, quick coupler fittings. Hoses routed around into place pretty good. The catch can did hinder the hood from closing, but it didn't take but a slight budging of the mounting bracket for the hood to close. There are two check valves in two of the hoses. You'll want the check valve arrows pointing AWAY from the catch can!!! You'll want clean air flowing away from the can, but not allowing air pressure into the can; only dirty, PCV air entering from the top side into the can. Again, if you own an Ecoboost 3.5L engine, this product I would extremely recommend. No doubt! After about 100 miles of towing a mini excavator, I drained about 4oz of junk. I wish I would have installed it long before the 50,000 mile mark.

2014 f150 fx4 Ruby Red

did not receive the catch can in the pictures. It has different quick connections which was fine made it easier to install but those quick connections were tall and bulky, they would hit my grille bracket and keep my hood from closing. So i had to mount it lower. In the picture it shows 4 allen screws on top mine had 2 and one was already stripped right out the box. Also the kit did not come with a plug for the driver side pcv valve fitting the directions dont even mention the fitting they just say to install engine cover over an open vaccum fitting. I have had it installed for about 4 days now and not a drop out of it but i will try again in about a week.

I finally received UPR catch can after a month after order. Stage 3 and UPR took care of me for the wait on the braided hoses. It is truly plug and play on the new catch can, no cutting and hose clamps, using factory style connectors. Expected all fitting for leaks after 100 miles. Can seems to be collecting oil. Install took about 10 minutes to install. I do recommend this product for engine protection! Dealing with many companies on upgrades and replacements, I have to say stage 3 helps with any concerns and questions. Expectations meet and commitment to excellence!!!

2011 F150 FX4 Ecoboost

I've used this catch can for about 2 weeks now and I think every EB should have one. I collect about 100ml(3oz) every week, which is about 300 miles. Essentially keeping that amount of what seems to be varsol out of every line and ultimately the top of the motor. I changed the intercooler at the same time and was shocked how much pure oil had accumulated in it and the charge pipe/throttle body. The can and hoses are first rate and really look good under the hood. The instructions were very thorough although I think upr could label the hoses for direction a little better rather than the black and white pictures. Kudos to stage3 and their service.

Super easy strait forward install. All parts appeared very high quality. I took a round trip of about 300 miles after installation. I drained the catch can when I got back home. About 4 ounces of nasty mixture drained out. Looked like oil/water/fuel. Definitely pleased so far.

This product does what it says it does. I recommend highly anybody with this engine needs to buy this catch can. A small price to pay for your engine to last a long time. After two weeks I did a drain and the stuff that came out was not pretty!! Also the install was super easy. Great product, great company. if I could I would click a six star review!

Very high quality, totally impressed with connections and hose quality. Replaced at same time with inter cooler , fixed all my performance problems. It was hard to stuff hoses through pass side hole that is recommended but doable. The instructions are very thorough, had to read a couple times to understand which hose was which and the direction they should go because of built in high quality check valves. Would recommend as a first buy now knowing what they capture. Very pleased.

Instructions were horrible!! BUT the product is awesome!! Great quality. I was nervous with the pictures online with all the hose clamps but the kit is way different now. Very clean looking with simple snap on hoses. Man does this thing work. No more shutter, better mpg, and piece of mind. Has been on for a week now and already drained 2/3 a cup.

2012 FX4 EB

A necessity at the least for the Ecoboost! After getting my (new to me) EcoBoost the first mod I did was the UPR catch can. This system does an exceptional job of filtering the nasty gunk that would go back into the motor. UPR put together a fantastic design that is easy to assemble with straightforward instructions. The hoses snap in place and the braiding makes it feel and look so good. The can holds a good amount of gunk and is made well! The ball valve drain makes it easy to empty when I'm at a gas station, but I usually remove the can to clean it thoroughly. The anodizing looks fantastic too!

Already seeing results after a couple hundred miles! Directions were a little lacking for my liking but with online videos, everything worked out. The model I received was different than the directions and had to make some modifications for the radiator mount. Hood would NOT close with how it came. Had to move the mount on the can. No biggie.

2013 Ecoboost FX4

This product does what it is supposed to do. Which is good and bad. I drained my can after 3 weeks of normal driving in mild(50-80 degrees) weather and got 3-4 ounces of milky oil and gas. The instructions say to drain it every 6 months, I will drain it every month. The only negative about this product is the instructions, they are not updated. Two things, the clean side separator snaps on to the nipple on the drivers side, you don't have to twist out the stock piece on the valve cover. Secondly, the unit comes with a billet spacer but there is no mention of it in the instructions as far as being included in the package. I emailed UPR to ask them about this but have had no response. Anyways, this product works and should be on every Ecoboost.

Why didn't I buy this sooner. Installation couldn't have been easier. I did have to bend the horn mount slightly and the hoses are really stiff, so routing is a bit of a challenge, but nothing the average mechanic can't handle. My truck now has just over 30K on it. I don't drive it much and live about 8 miles from work. After reading about the importance of a catch can on the F150 forum.com, I decided to get one. After one week, I drained about 8 oz of water, oil and gunk. I save it in a clear jar, and the drainings separated into three distinct layers. Its good to know that crap is no longer being ingested in my engine or getting deposited on the valves. That's a problem on a direct injection engine as the back side of the intake valves do not get washed with fuel. Google it and buy one.

My intercooler and charge pipe were coated in milky muck so I cleaned all the tubing up to the throttle body out and the intercooler and installed this catch can. The truck runs so much smoother and in the winter fills up quick with liquid. I e got to dump it once a week so I know it's working very well

Received this package in the mail and I was quite impressed with the ease of installation and the quality of equipment received. Only issue I had was my kit came with old CSS instead of the new low-profile separator that screws into the PCV opening instead as opposed to the oil cap. After UPR sent me the correct adapter I had to pry off the oil cap fitting on the CSS and pop on the new adapter, which was actually easy. Joe and Bryan were extremely helpful in this. The kit fits great and now I'm just waiting to put on a few extra miles to see how much junk it catches!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS DEVICE!! This catch can is an absolute MUST HAVE!! Even if you're truck is bone stock, your ECOBOOST needs this. All that nastiness that recirculates back into your engine will eventually blow a rod!! It's NOT good on your engine. This is by far the best money I've put into my truck thus far. If you don't have one then.....DONT WASTE ANYMORE OF YOUR TIME AND GET ONE!! Your engine will respectfully thank you. The quality of the product is magnificent but the instructions are horrible. My biggest complaint is that the direction of the check valve is never brought up. For instance, the arrow on the check valve should face away from the can. Also the passenger side hose that goes to the intake manifold might be a bit too long. Otherwise I love the quality of the hoses, fittings and can.

I have a 2014 F150 with less than 20,000 miles. I drain out typically 1-2 oz of a mixture of water, fuel and oil every few weeks. This would normally burn and deposit in the combustion chamber and on your valves. It installed as instructed in less than a hour. Intalling this is important as changing your oil!

Great product and does what it needs to do. High quality parts and hoses!! A friend of mine that restores cars was quite impressed with the quality. Be careful if the instructions though. UPR modified the Clean Side Separator and the instructions are for the old one. I called UPR and they were great and explained that they did the modification and was more than willing to help. The CSS now goes right into the valve cover and not your oil filler cap. After one week and about 200 miles I got about 1 oz. of junk oil and fuel. Very happy!!

Installation wasn’t the best. The pics sent are horrible. Black and white photos. Directions aren’t helpful. Kept showing the old pic of the catch can and not the new one I received. When I finally routed the hoses and had it all set up the hood wouldn’t close. Had to go through and make a whole bunch of adjustments. Hood now closes but appears to rub the hose that goes to the passenger side of the engine. Have to say I’m not too impressed with the installation or the placement. Thank god I did NOT go with the MEGA catch can. I don’t think it would fit at all. We will see how it holds up but for $400 I am not impressed at all from initial installation. Hopefully it holds up and hopefully it works. I can only imagine the hoses will not as the hood rubs up against it every time I open and close it.

2nd modification performed on my 2013 FX4. I probably should have installed this item 1st but you know what they say better late than never. The installation was a piece of cake I would recommend removing the clamps from one of the ends to help feed the hoses through on the passenger side. That took me a few minutes to realize to do that in order to run the hoses through to attach the catch can. I will give myself maybe a week or two and then check the can. Next modification charge pipe and throttle body.

WOW! This Catch is un real! Looks Great, Easy install and after 5 days of driving I couldn't believe the amount of fluid that came out of drain petcock. If you drive an Ecoboost you have to have this catch can! Don't let the price stop you. You honestly get what you pay for and UPR really out did themselves with this product. Totally worth it! The quality is amazing and an incredible amount of engineering detail went into this Catch Can. Even if everything on your truck is bare bone Stock, you have to buy this catch Can! Do you ever need to replace filters/ catch can screens? or just empty/drain it accordingly?

The screens generally won't every need to be replaced, since there's not much that can actually damage them. If you do notice that they're getting gummed up, cleaning them off with warm water and light soap would be a good idea.

If you do get this kit, I would strongly suggest removing your intercooler and cleaning it out and possibly looking into getting your intake valves walnut blasted so that you start from a clean slate. If you're not planning on holding onto your truck for at least a couple more years, then it's probably not worth it.

Every state has different regulations regarding emissions and testing. In general, as long as your state has not adopted CARB emissions guidelines, the Catch Can will not cause issues with passing emissions testing if it's properly installed.

The catch can has OE-style fittings for connecting to your truck's PCV ports. worm-gear clamps hold the hosing to the check valves.

The MEGA can has a larger capacity than this version. Their overall functionality is more or less the same. No drilling is required unless you have an oversized intercooler that requires the can to be placed closer to the headlight. While there was a slight design change since we posted it, you can use our install video for reference.

Will this fit on my 2013 ecoboost with the full race intercooler?

It can fit with Full-Race's intercooler, though I believe you need to drill a new mounting hole closer to your truck's headlight to get it to fit properly, and even then, fitment is pretty tight. You may be better off with UPR's Dual-Valve Can with an Engine Bay mount instead.

I would suggest actually cleaning out your truck's intercooler first before removing the shield to ensure that any blow-by that may still be lurking in there is thoroughly flushed out.

Not by much. While the catch can will help prevent octane degradation, that really doesn't translate into much of a gain in fuel economy. Your better bet is getting custom tuning.

Is this catch can setup compatible with the 2.0L EcoBoost turbo engine, on the Ford Escape and Edge?

Unfortunately, no. This kit will come with an entirely superfluous line, due to the fact that it was designed to captor from both heads of a V6 engine. It's possible that catch can kits for either the Mustang 2.3L EcoBoosts or the Focus ST 2.0L EcoBoosts would get you closer, but you'd likely still need to find a custom mounting solution and alter their PCV lines for fitment, since the engine bay layout of the Escapes and Edge are different.

I have a Phase 5 set up with the Full Race intercooler and the Tial BOV on my 2014 F150. I'm getting a lot of oil that comes out of the BOV and is coating the skid plate with oil and dirt. Can this catch can be used in conjunction with that set up and will it keep me from blowing oil out onto the bottom of my truck? Thanks in advance.

While the connections of the can will technically still work with your intercooler setup, you would need to find someplace else to mount the can, as the Full-Race Intercooler's higher mounting point interferes with the standard mounting point of this can. However, if you do find a different location to mount the can, you may need longer lines in order to route the hoses properly.

I've had the can installed for over 6 weeks. I opened the drain and nothing came out. I rechecked the connections and they were good. Is this normal?

If the PCV connections to the can and to the valve covers are both good, you may want to double-check that the check valves are oriented in the correct direction and that there's no gunk blocking their flow path. You may also want to look for sources of potential leaks from any of the lines.

The 2015 F150 EcoBoost's intercooler was totally redesigned and has a slightly different position. There's reason to believe that the blow-by issues were mitigated to some extent, but we won't personally know for sure until we get our own 2015 F150 in for some testing. This catch can will not fit a 2015 F150 without modifications, though 2015-specfic kits should be available here in the near future.

Honestly, most folks just use Simple Green or Dawn along with hot water. Basic, non-abrasive soap does a good job of breaking up the oil and gunk. Just make sure that the intercooler is completely dry before you get it reinstalled. If you have 2013 or2014 F150, make sure to remove your eBOV before you start cleaning.

A small amount of drilling required for the new-style air box CSS line. Everything else is plug-and-play. You may also need to drill a new mounting hole for the can itself closer to the headlight, if you have an aftermarket intercooler or lights mounted off your radiator support.

Should there be any cleaning prior to installation and how often should the can be drained or cleaned?

It's not a terrible idea to clean out your truck's intercooler before installing the can. That way you're starting from a clean slate, and you'll be better able to gauge the effectiveness of the can. As far as draining, how fast the can fills up is almost entirely dependent on climate, and you may need to empty it once every three days if you're in a cooler weather. However, we here in Phoenix only have to empty our can out once or twice a month.

I have a 2013 EcoBoost and I have installed this item a few weeks ago. In the instructions it had a step listing a vacuum plug, but I have no idea where I would have installed it. Seems like any connections I undid were all replaced by the new connections. Is this due to the updated design? Also I've noticed a drop in fuel mileage, almost a full gallon per mile. Is this typical?

It's very likely that you ended up with unrevised instructions for your revised catch can. Check out our blog post for the latest install instructions from UPR. As far as fuel economy goes, the can should have no effect or a slightly positive effect on its own. Your most likely reason for losing fuel economy is the cooler weather, especially if you warm your truck up with remote start and let it idle for a decent period of time. That being said, you could always check your spark plugs, air filter, or your PCM tune (if installed) for basic troubleshooting. If you're convinced it's the can, you can call us directly at 1-877-578-2433, and we'll see what we can do.

You could still feasibly use this can in conjunction with the Full-Race intercooler, however, you would most likely have to use a different mounting location for the can, possibly in the engine bay, unless you are willing to extend its hoses yourself.

What does installing this product do to my factory warranty?

In general, because this can is not a permanent modification and has no effect on your Powertrain, it won't have an effect on warranty. That being said, all warranty decisions are up to individual dealerships, and they will have ultimate say in what they'll cover or not. Your best bet would be talk to your service advisor directly and see what they say -- and get it in writing.

Will this product stop my trucks oil level from increasing? As it stands I haven't had any drivability issues, but my oil level does increase in between oil changes....Thank you for your response.

It will if and only if you're getting some water condensation flowing back into your oil. If you have gasoline or coolant intermixed with your oil, then your truck may have other problems. Since you said it was slight, then a catch can may help with that issue.

It's possible that some freezing can occur, if the contents of the can are allowed to sit and separate. The water can freeze on top of the heavier parts of the mix, but it generally all melts once the engine comes up to temperature. The rest of the mixture generally has too low a freezing point. The UPR extensions are not compatible with this can, due to the fact that this can doesn't screw in half like the older in-line cans.

What is the best set up? Do I buy two single cans or the dual valve can? I have had the loss of power problem while towing and I'm trying to prevent reoccurrence . Any other products you would suggest? Thanks

This catch can system more or less replaces the old dual, in-line can setup, and even operates more efficiently. If you're getting that infamous "EcoBoost Shudder" and power loss, I would suggest at least gapping down your spark plugs, if not grabbing a new set of Motorcraft SP-534 iridium spark plugs. I would also seriously recommend removing your truck's intercooler and cleaning it out before installing the catch can. That way, you basically start over from scratch and can better gauge how well the cans are working.
