The stock intake system of your 2012 to 2019 Explorer Sport's 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine works, but you can get some more power and torque out of your mighty EcoBoost engine by swapping it out with this Magnum FORCE Stage 2 intake kit from aFe. aFe's intake outflows the stock air box by up to 35%, and can get your EcoBoost-powered Explorer Sport more horsepower and more torque, all while improving fuel economy and throttle response over the stock air box, disposable paper filter, and factory inlet tubing. Each one of these kits includes a new filter, heat shield, and inlet tubing that flow air much more efficiently than stock. The aFe kit comes with everything you need to give your Explorer's intake system a nice overhaul and improving your engine's overall performance in a complete intake package that drops right into place of stock for no-hassle power and performance gains.

Each one of these Magnum FORCE Stage 2 cold air intake kits comes with all the high-quality and carefully-designed parts and components you need to squeeze out some more performance from your EcoBoost Explorer. aFe's intake is designed around one of their Pro Dry S air filters that features washable dry media and greatly outflows the stock disposable paper filter. The filter comes mounted in a full heat shield assembly with weatherstripping along its top for a clean seal against your Explorer's hood. The filter brings air into a full inlet tube assembly made from 3" diameter, mandrel-bent aluminum with a black wrinkle powder coat finish that leads all the way to your Explorer's throttle body. The system also comes with all the installation hardware and instructions you need to get the kit onto your Explorer and running at its best.

50-State Legal: this intake kit is 50-State legal for street use and is CARB approved under EO# D-550-28.

Easy installation. maybe 30 minutes. Works very well and looks much better than the boring factory box. Explorer feels a little peppier with a little more engine noise. Seems to have helped the blow off noise.

Will this part work on a 2018 ford explorer xlt that is not eco boost?

According to AFE this part is a Ecoboost part only and would not work on the other models.

According to aFe, this intake is confirmed up to the 2019 model year and will fit a 2018 Explorer with a 3.5L EcoBoost V6.

Why is part # 51-12622 not CARB legal, but part # 54-12622 is CARB legal ? Looks like the same cold air kit, just the filters are dry and oil is the difference.

This part is now CARB approved. Keep in mind that CARB approvals are specific to individual part numbers, regardless of the similarities with other products.

aFe has not yet confirmed fitment on the 2016 model year as of yet, though they'll hopefully have a confirmation here soon.
