Just because the 2019-2020 Ford Ranger is only a midsize truck does not mean that it can't be a lean, mean, towing machine! The Ford brand, a 2.3L EcoBoost and a 10-speed transmission actually help the Ranger tow pretty decently, but from stock, it does have its shortcomings. For real heavy towing, your original hitch may not be able to handle the load and you might find it difficult to control the body sway on the highway. Heavy loads can also cause your rear to sag, which not only looks awful but affects vehicle handling. Luckily, tapping into the magical wonderland of aftermarket parts can make heavy-duty towing much easier and safer. A new hitch, air spring, helper spring, or sway bar from our 2019-2020 Ranger Towing Upgrades all help to improve your Ranger's towing and hauling experience in a big way. In order to get your trailer and cargo safely to its destination, you can trust our vast variety of brands to get the job done.

2019-2020 Ford Ranger Hitches

The stock hitch of your Ranger can certainly pull a trailer, but once you're near your truck's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and gross combined weight rating (GCWR), you're playing with fire. The last thing you want to do is drop a couple tons of trailer onto the highway and risk someone's life. So if you plan on bringing along a heavy load, do the responsible thing and add an aftermarket hitch. A new hitch not only tows better, but it will be much easier for you to control your Ranger. Consider the 2019-2020 Ford Ranger CURT Class 3 Rear Trailer Towing Hitch (Square Tubing) to haul to the best of the Ranger's ability. With a 6,000 lbs carrying capacity, you should have no problem towing most standard size trailers, boat haulers and campers. With a 2" square receiver, most ball mounts can fit to the hitch for both daily hauling or intensive towing. Each Curt hitch is expertly welded together with strong steel so nothing bends or flexes under pressure like cheaper hitches tend to do.

Sway Bars

When towing or hauling heavy gear from stock, you run the risk of too much body roll and instability for comfort. You don't want to wipe out when hauling your precious gear, so consider adding a sway bar for further control out on the road. A sway bar additionally helps with front end handling and cornering for the best possible experience. A 2019-2020 Ford Ranger Hellwig Adjustable Rate Rear Sway Bar is more than enough for modern load and tow demands. The Hellwig Sway Bar accomplishes this by improving lateral stability and distributing the load between the rear wheels. Your axle and wheels will stay planted during hard turns for a less scary towing experience. Three mounting holes even allow for adjustments in roll stiffness so that you can set the bar to your liking. The sway bars are made of heat-treated, chromoly steel alloy to hold up against whatever you may encounter. We recently installed one onto our Ranger and were pleased with the results. Helper Springs vs Air Springs

While there isn't a clear cut winner between air springs and helper springs, there are a few factors that you must consider between the two to decide what fits you best. First, helper springs are a cost-effective option for preventing rear end sag so your Ranger doesn't look or drive poorly when loaded up. The 2019-2020 Ford Ranger Timbren SES Rear Suspension Upgrade or 2019-2020 Ford Ranger SuperSprings are great choices. When towing heavy loads, you can relax and have assurance that all wheels will stay firmly planted even when equipped with up to 1,500 lbs of cargo. However, helper springs do not have the best ride quality when you're cruising without a load, so you will have to take the time to remove them after you complete your towing. Thankfully helper springs are easy to install and remove, so you can get rolling again without too much hassle. If you want a more premium experience, then consider a more fully-loaded Air Spring Kit! The 2019-2020 Ford Ranger Firestone Ride-Rite Rear Air Spring Kit or the 2019-2020 Ford Ranger Air Lift Springs are probably the best option for you to level your truck if you constantly tow. With a great load capacity, you can really safely test the limits of your midsize truck, but be aware that this does not increase your vehicle's maximum load. Featuring compatibility with your on-board air compressor, the air springs can quickly be inflated or deflated depending on what your drive calls for. However, they are not invincible. Extreme off-roading can rip your air bellows and affect the usefulness and durability of your air springs. They also are pricier options than their helper springs brethren. For day-to-day tow rigs, it probably is your best bet though due to its effectiveness and quick use.
