We'd been getting requests to put together a dedicated hunting rig for some time, and at long last it's here. We built our hunting rig from a relatively modest foundation, beginning with a stock 2014 F150 SuperCab with the 5.0L V8, but today there's nothing modest about it. It's aggressive, capable, and fully loaded with everything we need to get in and out of the woods with ease. Read on for a quick look and check out the complete build overview video below.
From an exterior standpoint, our hunting rig sports a stout, industrial aesthetic complimented by practical accessories designed to keep us safe and protect our investment. Up front we've got a Westin HDX Winch Mount Grille Guard and for the rear, a Westin HDX Headache Rack. The headache rack is for our own peace of mind. With our four-wheeler's bumper only inches from the rear windshield, we wanted an extra layer of protection just in case. No doubt, the sleeper hit of this build is the DECKED Truck Bed Drawer Storage System. This ridiculously tough, versatile bed storage system is ideal for keeping your rifles, tools, recovery gear, and whatever else is coming with you organized and well-protected. The system was designed for a precise fit with our F150's 6.5ft. bed, with drawers capable of carrying up to 200 pounds and a top deck that can support an impressive 2000 pounds.
On the suspension front, we needed something ultra-capable to handle the unforgiving terrain between us and our destination. We went with FOX 2.5 Factory Series Reservoir Front Coilovers and Fox 2.5 Factory Series Piggyback Reservoir Rear Shocks. We were extremely grateful for the improvements we saw in off-road performance, control, and comfort. We paired this awesome suspension setup with Falken WildPeak Mud-Terrain Off-Road Tires, which ate up whatever we threw at them and impressed us with a surprisingly restrained street ride. We really went all out on this build, and its project page details everything we threw at it. Leave a comment and let us know what you like most about the Stage 3 Hunting Rig!
