The previous owner of our Raptor outfitted it with a couple cheap LED lights from a land far, far away, and like most cheap LED kits, these ones were plagued with condensation issues and dismal light output. Since Joe eBay's off-brand lighting setup simply wouldn't suffice, we promptly dumped them straight in the trash and stepped up our Ford's lighting game with Baja Designs Squadrons, a pair of LP6's, a 20" S8 light bar and a 40" ONX6 bar just for good measure. This is overkill in every way, but each of these lighting setups has its place and we wanted to try them all!
Since the Raptor's front bumper has open corners and no factory fog light option, it's prime territory to fit some off-road lighting. We bolted up our Baja Designs Complete Fog Light Package which includes their brackets, Squadron Pro Lights, and the necessary wiring to make a powerful and clean-fitting light setup. This kit comes with a choice of four Baja Designs Squadron Pro Off-Road LED Lights, so we committed to a full amber set for better visibility in dense fog and dust. Each light throws out 4900 raw lumens of light and is built to handle the toughest conditions we might stumble across during a night on the trail. Unfortunately, these fog lights are no longer sold on our website, but we have a variety of fog light upgrades that will assist you on any trail.
A common place to mount lights on F150s and Raptors is in the center of the front bumper, and our Baja Designs Lower Bumper 20" S8 Off-Road LED Light Pack makes good use of this space. The kit includes Baja Designs' drop-in lower bumper mounting brackets, your choice of Baja Designs 20" S8 LED Light Bar, and all the wiring needed to tie the light bar into one of the Raptor's factory upfitter switches. We chose to run an amber combo beam S8 on this build and it's since become one of our favorite lights on this truck. As awesome as this kit is, we've actually discontinued it. However, we have an impressive selection of other Lighting Upgrades for you.
We wanted to think outside the box a little with this Weekend Warrior build, so we decided to take Baja Designs LP6's and mount them on the hood of our Raptor, similar to what you might see on a Jeep. We grabbed a set of Baja Designs LP6 Pro LEDs, a Baja Designs LP6 Wiring Harness and Baja Designs 09-14 F150 & Raptor Hood Mount Brackets and combined it all to create a unique and versatile lighting solution for our truck. Each LP6 creates a 200 degree spread of white light and 10,300 lumens to ensure we get incredible visibility around the entire front end of our Raptor. Unfortunately, we no longer carry the Baja Designs hood mount brackets that we used here, but we do have a variety of other off-road light mounts that may work just as well.
As if there wasn't already enough forward lighting on this truck, we decided to be downright excessive and add one more light bar to the mix. We chose Baja Designs' 40" ONX6 Light Bar Grille Mount Kit, which positions the bar behind the grille for a stealthy lighting option that still has tremendous light output. The ONX6 features 24 individual LEDs that together crank out a massive 38,900 lumens, which is plenty to overcome any blockage from the Raptor's grille while still covering the trail ahead. With our Raptor's front-end off-road lighting situation taken care of, it was time to address the back end. To help with backing up late at night when we're in the middle of nowhere, we installed Baja Designs' S2 Pro Flush Mount Complete Off-Road Backup Kit. This system includes two S2 Pro Flush Mount Off-Road LED lights with wide/cornering beam patterns and a full wiring harness with a switch, but it can also simply be tied into your existing reverse light circuit so that it triggers on automatically when backing up.
