Our 2014 F250 Build has come a long way from where we started out, but there's still a decent amount of things to do to bring together its styling. Given that we're going with a black-on-white "Stormtrooper" styling theme, we needed to do something about the boring stock headlights, taillights, and third brake like to dump as much of the factory chrome as humanly possible while getting some amount of improved light output. Here's how we made it happen!
We've always been a fan of our old friends at Recon Lighting, and their 2011 to 2015 F250 & F350 Super Duty Smoked Projector CCFL Halo Headlights have been on our wish list for a while. We got them in and threw them on our 2011 Super Duty, and they look absolutely amazing. The halos have a bright color, the LED strip looks wicked, and the dual-lens design and black housing set our truck apart from the rest while blending into our styling theme. Now, we couldn't just leave the rear end of our truck hanging, so we picked up Recon's Super Duty Smoked LED Taillights. These taillights have a black housing, lightly smoked lens, and rows of extra-bright LEDs that provide an awesome, aggressive look. Recon's taillights have all of the OEM taillight functions and are DOT-approved. More importantly, they look awesome and bring out the best in our 2014 F250's black on white color scheme. The third brake light and mirror lights are often forgotten when people modify their truck's lighting, but it's those little details that make a big difference so we installed Recon's Super Duty Smoked Third Brake Light and their Smoked LED Mirror Lights to round out our F250's lighting. While not the biggest or most noticeable upgrades of the bunch, they definitely helped tie the rest of our exterior styling together and the LED's give the truck a more modern look. One of the most unique and clever upgrades Recon offers is their illuminated F250 and F350 side emblems. Recon's badge replaces the stock badge as an easy drop-in styling accessory and ties into your truck's electrical system to illuminate its F250 lettering. While purely aesthetic, Recon's badge allowed us to ditch the last of the factory chrome and looks awesome with our black-on-white F250 build. The badge's white illumination also adds a distinct look to our truck, especially at night! F250 Recon Illuminated Side Emblems
Before we had the Fusion bumpers installed on our F250 we wanted to find a way to install some better off-road lighting in the factory bumper. Thankfully Rigid builds brackets that mount in place of the Super Duty's fog lights and allow you to fit a set of ultra-bright Q-Series LED lights. With the full kit installed, the end result is a clean cut lighting setup that is great for late night trail runs. As bright as this kit is, we have since discontinued it on our website.
