The thing that really distinguishes our Desert Runner F150 build from the rest is its suspension, wheels, and tires. As our dedicated off-road desert truck, our 2015 F150 needed some of the most powerful suspension hardware in our arsenal along with new wheels and a larger off-road tire to match. To get this truck ready for action we bolted on a BDS 4" Lift, Fox 2.5 Coilovers, Method Wheels and a full set of Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3's. You can purchase these exact mods in the product section at the bottom of this page.
Our friends over at BDS build some of the toughest, highest-performing suspension lift kits on the market for the 2015-2017 F150's, and any aggressive, purpose-built off-roader would do well to give them attention. Given our noble Desert Running Goals, we turned to BDS's 4" Coilover Suspension Lift Kit with Fox 2.5 DSC Coilovers to get our truck higher in the air and the off-road suspension performance it needs to tackle just about any terrain we'll find. The kit is made out of thick, gusseted steel and the full-length Fox 2.5 coilovers come complete with remote reservoirs with Fox's unique Dual-Speed Compression Adjusters that allow us to dial in both the low and high speed compression rates of the coilovers independently. The amount of adjustability makes them just about perfect for any application we have in mind. The kit is rounded out by a pair of Fox 2.0 rear shocks in the back so that our 2015 F150 5.0L's rear end keeps up with the front. 2015-2017 F150 4WD BDS 4" Fox Coilover Suspension Lift Kit
While a badass lift kit is all well and good, it won't be doing much of anything without the right wheels, so we here at Stage 3 hit up our friends over at Method for some help. Our solution came in the form of a set of Matte Black 18x9" Method Double Standard Wheels with +18mm offsets. These wheels look absolutely awesome, and coming from Method, we know that they'll be able to survive just about anything that we can throw at them and make it home. 2004-2017 F150 Method 18x9" Double Standard Wheel
We wanted a tire that we knew performed well off-road while still having relatively low amounts of noise on-road and decent tread-wear. Given that we couldn't quite get on a 35x12.50" tire due to the offsets of our wheels, we settled for a set of 305/70R18 Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3 Tires. This isn't our first rodeo with the Baja ATZs. We had them in 37" trim on our 2012 F150 3.5L EcoBoost FX4 Project Truck and we absolutely loved their ability to provide excellent grip in silty, sandy conditions while still having excellent on-road ride comfort. It only made sense to get another set for our 2015 F150 Desert Runner Project for ripping through the harsh Arizona desert. Unfortunately, we no longer carry these specific tires, but check out our selection of off-roading tires for your build.
