While a stock Focus ST comes from the factory with a respectable 252 horsepower and 270lb-ft of torque, one of the reasons you get an awesome factory-turbocharged hot-hatch is to get it throwing out even more power. We threw bolt-on modifications and tuning at our 2016 Focus ST to get it churning out more power and added a cat-back system to give a lean, mean, and aggressive new sound.
One of the things that was desperately missing from our 2016 Focus ST was an aggressive, Vent-to-Atmosphere BOV sound. We turned to TurboSmart and their Kompact BOV. The stock turbo system uses a pretty standard BPV that simply and silently recirculates blow-off air back into your ST's intake stream. The TurboSmart Kompact BOV features a 50/50 blow-off and recirculation function that gives your ST that aggressive VTA sound without causing a CEL or other issues. Best of all, the TurboSmart BOV is built much stronger than stock, making it able to handle higher levels of boost pressure than stock and less prone to leaks and other issues. We no longer carry this specific BOV, but we do have a wide selection of Turbocharger Upgrades for you to choose from.
Opening up the air intake system on our Focus was going to be crucial to making more power so we installed one of MBRP's 3" Intake Tubes and added in a new K&N Oiled Air Filter. MBRP's inlet tubing is not only larger, but has fewer and smoother bends that promotes more efficient airflow into our turbocharger while the K&N filter cuts down the restriction of air coming in. Together this combo gave our 2.0L EcoBoost a bump up in power and improved throttle response. However, we have since discontinued this specific air intake kit. Find the perfect cold air intake kit for you within our inventory of Intake Kits.
Not all upgrades done under the hood have to be massive power adders or turbos and often times it's the simple mods that are the most clever. Velossa Tech's Big Mouth Intake Snorkel fits the bill by being both stylish and functional. This 3D printed snorkel directs air from the front of the Focus directly to the air box under the hood to provide a better flow of fresh air while also adding a more aggressive look to the front of the car. These intakes are available in multiple colors for both the body and lip of the unit. Although we love the end result of this intake snorkel, we no longer sell this specific part. COBB Tuning probably knows the 2.0L EcoBoost motor better than just about anybody and their Accessport V3 is one of the handiest and most powerful tuning devices on the market. COBB's performance tuning for the Focus ST gives the 2.0L EcoBoost engine a massive increase in power output without requiring any upgrades under the hood. On top of the tunes, the COBB Accessport V3 can also read and clear DTCs, display engine info with customizable gauge configurations and datalog engine running information. 13-16 Focus ST COBB Accessport V3 Tuner
Perhaps we're just old-fashioned, but having an artificial exhaust sound piped into the cockpit of our Focus felt fundamentally wrong and we had to remedy it. The first step was to install the simple yet effective COBB Sound Symposer Delete to get rid of the fake exhaust note. Our second step was to get a proper cat back exhaust system that could create an organic, sporty tone fitting for our little ST. Thankfully Borla has just the kit for the job with their Touring cat-back system. Borla's exhaust is a direct bolt-on replacement for the factory system and it gives the 2.0L Ecoboost a strong throaty sound without creating excessive droning in the cab so you get the best exhaust for all occasions. 13-17 Focus ST Ecoboost Borla Touring Cat-Back Exhaust
Wheel hop and vibration seem to plague Focus ST's right from the factory and our project Focus was no exception. With additional power and suspension mods being added we needed to ensure that our ST could really put the power down when we needed it so we installed a new rear motor mount from COBB. The COBB motor mount is built around a custom molded 85A durometer with unique voids in its structure that provides the extra firmness to avoid wheel hop and engine twist while keeping overall vibration and noise minimal. 13-17 Focus ST COBB Rear Motor Mount
Even though we run our Focus hard, we still want to ensure we keep its motor in top shape. To help prevent power loss and oil buildup from blow-by we installed JLT's 3.0 Oil Separator on our 2.0L EcoBoost which captures oil vapors in its filtration media to form droplets that then drop into the can's reservoir. This system will help keep crucial intake components and valves free of excess oil vapor and condensation. Unfortunately, we no longer sell this oil separator, but we do have similar options within our inventory of Focus Performance Parts.
