With a fresh set of wheels and tires on our GT500 it was time to follow up with suspension and brakes to create a meaner stance and bring the handling up to snuff. The factory suspension on our GT500 is somewhat primitive so we made sure to give it the full treatment with new springs, control arms, sway bars and so much more. You can purchase these exact mods in the product section at the bottom of this page.
Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs
You'd be hard-pressed to find a Stage 3 project Mustang that hasn't been laid low with a set of lowering springs, and our 2008 GT500 wasn't going to be the exception. Starting off our festival of suspension hardware was a set of Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs. Eibach's Pro-Kit Springs lower the GT500 by about 1.5" up front and 1.7" in the rear, which is just enough of a drop to close up unsightly wheel gap and provide a lower center of gravity for nice handling improvements, without going low enough to cause a rough ride or drivability problems. 2007-2014 Shelby GT500 Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs
Bilstein HD Shock & Strut Package
With our Eibach lowering springs being installed, we made sure to back them up with a new set of Bilstein HD shocks and struts for optimal ride comfort and control. These Bilstein's provided our GT500 with improved suspension response, reduced fade, and more consistency than the factory dampers, all in one high quality package. They have a larger diameter than stock and use finely tuned internal valving to give the car a more track worthy feel in the corners. Bilstein HD Shock & Strut Package
BMR Race Adjustable Lower Control Arms
BMR Control Arm Relocation Bracket
There are some wheel hop and traction problems that are inherent with the GT500's factory suspension and it only gets worse when you add more power, so to remedy the issue we installed a set of BMR's Race Adjustable Lower Control Arms. Made from 4130 chromolly steel tubing for superior strength and rigidity, these BMR Rear Lower Control Arms are TIG-welded and adjustable which allows us to tweak them just to our liking for the best traction possible. Along with these arms we bolted on BMR's Control Arm Relocation Brackets that enable us to further alter the suspension geometry as needed. 05-14 Mustang-GT500 BMR Race Adjustable Lower Control Arms
BMR Adjustable Upper Control Arm (Spherical Bushing)
This GT500 build is no stranger to "spirited" driving so to better assist with traction when we launch we installed BMR's Adjustable Upper Control Arm with Spherical Bushing. The UCA is made out of 1-5/8" diameter tubular chromoly steel with .120" wall thickness and the adjuster mechanism is CNC machined with chromoly steel and rolled threads for excellent durability. We also tossed on a BMR Upper Control Arm Mount for added strength and more adjust-ability. 05-10 Mustang-GT500 BMR Adjustable Upper Control Arm with Spherical Bushing
BMR Tubular Adjustable Panhard Rod
Despite the Eibach Pro-Kit having a fairly mild drop height, any change in ride height causes your GT500's suspension geometry to be thrown off, especially in the rear. Since we wanted as much handling performance as we could get from our snake, we decided to fix the problem right away with a BMR Tubular Adjustable Panhard Rod. BMR's Adjustable Panhard Rods are an easy, reliable way to get your Mustang or GT500's suspension geometry back on track no matter how much you lower your car. BMR's panhard rod drops right into place of stock, making it an easy way to get your GT500 ready for action in practically no time. BMR Tubular Adjustable Panhard Rod
BMR 22mm Adjustable Rear Sway Bar Kit
Rounding out our GT500's rear end suspension was a BMR 22mm Adjustable Rear Sway Bar Kit. BMR's sway bar uses high quality polyurethane bushings and is lighter weight than the factory bar so that you get increased response in the corners with less body roll. 05-10 Mustang-GT500 BMR 22mm Adjustable Rear Sway Bar Kit
BMR 5-Hole Adjustable Front Sway Bar Kit
At the front of our GT500 we matched up our new rear sway bar with a BMR 5-Hole Adjustable Front Sway Bar Kit. This new front sway bar is made from aerospace grade, cold-formed steel that has similar strength to factory designs while being much lighter and more resistant to fatigue. What this means is sharper cornering at high-speeds and more control of our car in the bends. 05-10 Mustang-GT500 BMR 5-Hole Adjustable Front Sway Bar Kit
BMR A-Arm Support Brace
As if all the other BMR mods weren't enough, we added a BMR A-Arm Support Brace for just a touch more rigidity up front. The A-arm brace is a simple component that easily bolts into place on the A-arm's rear mounts making it a cheap and easy way to tighten up your Mustang or GT500's handling. 05-14 Mustang-GT500 BMR A-Arm Support Brace
Power Stop High-Carbon Track Day Rotors
Power Stop High-Carbon Track Day Rear Rotors
With the suspension dialed in on our GT500 it was time to get to work on the brakes. These Power Stop High-Carbon drilled and slotted rotors provide maximum stopping power with higher resistance to brake fade than stock while reducing brake dust and ensuring reliable stopping under high temperatures. We replaced both the front and the rear rotors to get the best braking possible. 07-12 GT500 Power Stop High-Carbon Track Day Front Rotors 05-14 Mustang-GT500 Power Stop High-Carbon Track Day Rear Rotors
Hawk HPS Brake Pads
it would be foolish of us to throw on new rotors and not replace the pads so we trashed the old pads and picked up a new set of Hawk's HPS Performance pads for the front and back of our Shelby GT500. These HPS brake pads feature a unique Ferro-Carbon, high-tech friction material that was developed and manufactured for high-speed street driving with a compound that provides advanced braking characteristics to enhance your driving experience. JLT Brake Duct Cooling Kit
Topping off our parade of suspension and brake upgrades is the JLT Brake Duct Cooling Kit. This relatively simple mod uses a series of hoses, brackets and hardware to create two channels in the lower grille that funnel cool air to your car's front brakes and reduce brake fade. It's a simple system that works great on the street or the track. JLT Brake Duct Cooling Kit
