Possibly good news (assuming Ford actually confirms or denies it) for you SVO fans longing for the days of old. According to Road & Track, the 2014.5/2015 Mustangs will receive a 2.3L EcoBoost engine as one of its options in the United States, but that's not what's most surprising.

2.0L EcoBoost Engine

The big news is that the 2.3L direct-injected, turbocharged engine will most likely be the "mid-ranged" motor option of the Mustang, with the V6 at the bottom and the V8 at the top. While the 2.3L EcoBoost is slated to put down about 300 horsepower (slightly less than the current V6), it's torque figures will likely trump the the current six-shooter's by a long shot, if the Focus ST's power figures are any indication. The matchup and debate between the three motors should be lively.

2.0L Ecoboost

As we stated in a earlier and now (possibly) incorrect post, the 2.3L EcoBoost engine is going to based on the current 2.0L EcoBoost in the Focus ST. We're sure that the "V8 and V8 only" crowd is probably pretty upset, those few of that have fond memories of the SVO are probably rejoicing. Stay tuned.
