Before You Buy: Turbo Upgrades for 2011-2016 6.7L Super Dutys

The 2011-2016 6.7L Super Duty is a great truck. Some have even said that the 6.7L diesel is one of the top diesel engines that Ford has ever made. However, like any other engine it has, it's common issues but those can easily be fixed. One of the most common issues with the 2011-2014 Super Dutys is the stock turbocharger (which they fixed in 2015-2016 model years). Mechanics have mentioned it is due to the fact it has ceramic ball bearings as opposed to steel ball bearings. Replacing a turbo is something that can get you greater reliability and even greater performance. There are also some serious potential power increases that can happen after upgrading your turbocharger. Here at Stage 3 Motorsports, we have plenty of replacement turbochargers specifically created for these trucks that will give you peace of mind and your truck more power when combined with proper tuning.

Factory Replacement Turbochargers for 2011-2014 6.7L Super Dutys

If you are in the situation where you just want to swap out the stock turbocharger for one that puts out roughly the same or slightly more power, then something like the 2011-2014 F250 & F350 6.7L Powerstroke ATS Aurora 3000 VFR Variable Factory Replacement Turbocharger or 2011-2014 F250 & F350 6.7L Garrett DualBoost VG Stock Replacement Turbocharger may be right up your alley. Both of these turbos are easy drop-in replacements that reuse your truck's stock lines for quick and easy installation. The difference between these two is the compressor wheel, the Garrett one has a unique double-sided compressor wheel while the Aurora has upgraded heavy-duty ball bearing packs. Both of these turbochargers come from high-quality brands that have been in business for a long time so either way, you are going to end up with a great product.

Performance Turbochargers for 2011-2016 6.7L Super Dutys

When it comes to trucks that tow often, get pushed, or the owner just wants to get more power out of it. Then maybe you are in the market for something more than a straight factory replacement. Some products that may be in your wheelhouse with this would be the 2011-2014 F250 & F350 6.7L ATS Diesel Aurora 3000 Drop-In Turbocharger Kit and the 2011-2016 F250 & F350 6.7L H&S Motorsports Single Turbo Kit (600-650 WHP). With the Aurora, it has a lot of the same features as other ATS's other turbos. What takes it to the next level is the fact it also comes with a revised compressor wheel and housing, as well as vastly improved up-pipes overstock, which helps improve turbo spool, response, and power output all while lowering overall EGTs over the factory turbocharger. The Aurora 3000 reuses the stock intake, discharge, and downpipe saving you some serious time and hassles on improving your truck's performance and replacing your worn or broken factory turbocharger. On the other hand, the turbocharger from H&S motorsports features an upgraded BorgWarner SX-E turbocharger unit with a 64mm billet inducer. It also includes two exhaust manifolds and a turbo pedestal, both masterfully engineered here in the USA from the finest materials for maximum reliability in all weather conditions. The manifolds accept exhaust gas temperature sensors, factory, and 1/8" npt. The manifolds also feature a location to install the OEM exhaust back pressure sensor. Premium laser-cut mounting brackets, silicone couplers, hardware, seals, and gaskets are provided to make installation as easy as possible. Along with the vastly improved BorgWarner SX-E turbo, the provided 2-piece downpipe allows for consistent, uninterrupted airflow for maximum power potential. A 360-degree thrust bearing assembly is standard on all BorgWarner SX-E turbocharger units, ensuring long-term reliability. It is important to note that to get the most use out of your new turbo, it's best to pair it with the right tuning system so everything runs smoothly. Although tuning isn't required to operate one of these turbos it definitely helps to take a peak at what tuning systems you can get.

High Performance and Race Turbochargers For 2011-2016 6.7L Super Dutys

If by chance you are making a racing diesel or just want to be the fastest Super Duty on the block, then we have stuff for you as well. It is important to note that any turbos in this section must be combined with custom tuning to operate properly. Between the 2011-2016 F250 & F350 6.7L H&S Motorsports Single Turbo Kit (700-750 WHP) or the 2015-2016 F250 & F350 6.7L ATS Aurora 6000 Plus Compound Turbo Kit for later trucks, one of these two should be able to speed up your truck tremendously when paired with the right tuning. The higher performance turbo from H&S Motorsports has a lot of parts that are similar between all of their turbos. The difference between this one and others is that this one is designed to be able to handle 700-750 horsepower. The kit itself includes a higher rated BorgWarner turbocharger unit with a 69mm billet inducer rather than the 64mm on the other H&S kit. Also included with this kit are exhaust manifolds, a two-piece downpipe, a divided T4 cast turbocharger pedestal, high-quality steel intake, and charge piping as well as an installation kit that includes all necessary hoses, clamps, plugs, gaskets, etc. With the Aurora 6000, they advertise that your 2015-2016 6.7L Super Duty will be able to reach 600HP and 1,200 Ft Lbs of torque. The turbo at the center of this kit is meant to provide an increased boost across the entire engine operating range to the tune of about 50-60 PSI in total. Aurora requires that this product must be used with an aftermarket ECM engine calibration only. They recommend using tuning hardware and software for monitoring and ECM Calibration from EZ Lynk, which we have available for you right here at Stage 3 Motorsports. Though the Aurora requires you to use one through EZ Lynk, it is important to note that even if you end up getting the one from H&S power, you still must pair it with proper tuning like something from 5-Star for it to work on your vehicle.

Upgrading from the stock turbo is one of the best ways to get more performance out of your truck. The only thing is, be sure if you are going higher than a stock replacement turbo to pair it with some awesome tuning or else you will not be able to unleash the full benefits of having that larger turbo on your truck. Something else to look at when upgrading the turbo is to combine it with an upgraded intercooler and pipes as well. Those will help guide the larger amounts of airflow into your engine. Some of these turbos come with upgraded pipes as well. If you want to add something else that will work well with all of these, check out our Cold Air Intakes section as well.
