Not sure which Edge product is right for your truck? The right choice depends on what you drive, what you want out of it, and whether you want a full ECM tune, a plug-and-play module, or just a real-time monitor for boost, EGTs, and trans temps. Read the buyer guide below or call our build specialists at 623-434-5277.
Edge sells three different categories of devices, and the difference matters. Pick the wrong category and you either get less performance than you wanted or more device than you needed.
A tuner writes a new calibration to your truck's ECM, replacing the factory tune with one tailored for performance, towing, or fuel economy. Tuners deliver the biggest gains in horsepower, torque, throttle response, and shift behavior because they are reprogramming the brain of the truck. Most Edge tuners also double as a dash monitor, so you get gauges and diagnostics in the same unit.
A monitor reads OBD2 data and displays it on a customizable dash screen. Monitors do not change your tune. They show you boost pressure, EGTs, transmission temperature, coolant temperature, and dozens of other parameters in real time. If you tow heavy, run aftermarket parts, or just want to keep an eye on your engine, a monitor is the right tool. Edge Insight monitors also support custom tuning via a license upgrade on the Insight+ models.
Modules are plug-and-play devices that intercept signals between sensors and the ECM, modifying engine behavior without a permanent ECM flash. The Pulsar XT installs into the OBD2 port or harness, the EZX Module installs inline on diesel trucks. Modules are popular because they install in minutes, can be removed without leaving a flash trail, and avoid the 2-3 attempt OBD2 flash limit on newer Ford trucks.
The Evolution CTS3 is Edge's flagship tuner and monitor in one device. It features a 5-inch full-color touchscreen, performance tunes, customizable gauge layouts, EAS expansion support, and integrated drag strip and 0-60 timers. The Evolution CS2 is the older 2.4-inch screen version, still capable but smaller and slower. For most customers buying new, the CTS3 is the better long-term investment.
The Insight CTS3 is the monitor-only version of the CTS3 hardware. Same 5-inch screen, same gauge customization, but no performance tuning. Insight+ models add the ability to upload custom tunes via a separate license, making them a strong middle ground for owners who want gauges first and tuning later.
The Pulsar XT is Edge's modern plug-and-play module designed specifically for the F-150 EcoBoost (2.7L and 3.5L) and the 2021+ Bronco 2.3L and 2.7L. It plugs into the truck's OBD2 port and unlocks pre-loaded tune levels you can switch on the fly using the steering wheel cruise control buttons. No laptop, no flash, no OBD2 lock-out concerns. The Pulsar is the easiest path to more power on a modern EcoBoost.
The EZX Module is a 6.7L Power Stroke specific performance module that installs inline on the engine harness. It delivers up to 100 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque on stock turbos with no ECM modification. EZX is also available bundled with an Insight CTS3 monitor for full visibility into what the module is doing.
The 2021-2024 F-150 EcoBoost Pulsar XT is the easiest answer. Plug-and-play install, multiple tune levels, switchable on the fly. Owners who want the largest gains and full tune customization should look at the Evolution CTS3 with the appropriate Ford Gas tune license.
The Evolution CTS3 (Ford Gas) is the strongest option for naturally aspirated 5.0L trucks. It supports custom tuning, multiple performance levels, and full gauge customization. The EVO HT2 is a budget-tier handheld programmer for owners who want a simpler device without the full CTS3 feature set.
The EZX Module is the bolt-on power answer. For owners who want both a tune and a monitor, the EZX with Insight CTS3 bundle covers both bases. Owners who want full ECM tuning should look at the Evolution CTS3 Diesel for the appropriate model year.
The Edge Stage 1 and Stage 2 packages combine an Evolution CTS3, Edge Jammer intake, and a high-flow filter. These bundles are CARB-compliant on the right configurations and cover the most common 6.0L upgrade path in one box.
The Revolver CTS3 Performance Kits are the right answer for older 7.3L trucks. Edge offers transmission and year-specific kits, so pick the kit that matches your model year and whether your truck is automatic or manual.
The 2019-2020 Ranger EVO HT2 is purpose-built for the 2.3L Ranger and delivers solid power and throttle response gains in a simple handheld unit.
The 2021-2025 Bronco Pulsar XT is the same plug-and-play architecture as the F-150 version, scaled to the Bronco platform. Easiest path to power on the new Bronco.
The Pulsar Tuner for Ram is available in 2015-2018 and 2019-2022 fitments, with bundle options that include the Insight CTS3 monitor. For owners who want a full ECM tune, the Edge Gas Evolution CTS3 with PCM Swap covers 2018-2024 Ram 1500 models.
EAS is Edge's modular sensor expansion ecosystem. It plugs into the back of any CS2 or CTS2 tuner or monitor and lets you add pyrometer probes for EGT readings, pressure sensors for boost, transmission, or fuel rail, temperature sensors, a turbo timer, and even a backup camera. If you tow heavy, run a diesel, or just want more data than the OBD2 port can provide, the EAS Starter Kit Cable is the foundation. Add sensors as needed.
Some Edge products are CARB-compliant and have an Executive Order (EO) number that makes them 50-state legal. Others are off-road only and not legal for use on California roads. The CARB-compliant variants are clearly labeled (you will see "CARB-approved" or a CA Edition designation in the product title). If you live in California, Colorado, Maine, or any state that has adopted CARB emissions standards, buy only the EO-numbered version.
Regarding warranty: any modification to your truck's ECM or powertrain control can affect your factory warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The Pulsar XT and EZX modules are non-permanent and can be removed without leaving a flash trail. Permanent ECM flashes (Evolution, EVO HT2) write the truck's history to the ECM, which dealers can read. If warranty preservation is critical, lean toward modules over flash tuners, and always return to stock before any dealer visit.
Stage 3 Motorsports has been a top-tier Edge dealer for over a decade. We stock the full lineup, ship the same day on most in-stock orders, and offer a price match on any authorized Edge dealer. Our build specialists actually know the difference between a CS2 and a CTS3, between a Pulsar and an Evolution, and which one fits your specific year and engine. If you have questions, call us at 623-434-5277.
A tuner writes a new calibration to your truck's ECM and changes how the engine and transmission behave, delivering measurable horsepower and torque gains. A monitor only reads data from the OBD2 port and displays it on a customizable dash screen. Tuners change performance, monitors show you what is happening. Many Edge devices, like the Evolution CTS3, do both in one unit.
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot blanket-void your warranty just because you installed an aftermarket part. They can deny a specific warranty claim if they prove the part caused the failure. Permanent ECM flashes (Evolution, EVO HT2) leave a trail in the ECM that dealers can read. Non-permanent modules (Pulsar XT, EZX Module) can be removed cleanly. If warranty preservation is your top priority, go with a module instead of a flash tuner.
Some Edge products are CARB-compliant and have a California Executive Order (EO) number, making them 50-state legal. These are typically labeled as "CA Edition" or "CARB-approved" in the product title. Off-road-only variants are not legal for street use in California or any CARB-adopting state. Buy only the CARB-compliant version if you live in CA, CO, ME, NY, or any state following CARB.
The Evolution CTS3 is the current flagship: 5-inch full-color touchscreen, full performance tuning, full gauge customization, EAS expansion. The Evolution CS2 is the older 2.4-inch screen version with similar core functionality but a smaller display. The EVO HT2 is a simpler, lower-cost handheld programmer with no monitor screen. CTS3 is the buy-once-cry-once option, CS2 is the budget version of the same idea, EVO HT2 is the entry-level tuner without the monitor features.
The Pulsar XT is a plug-and-play module with pre-loaded tunes you can switch on the fly using your steering wheel cruise control buttons. No laptop, no flash, no OBD2 attempt limit concerns. The Evolution CTS3 is a full handheld tuner that flashes a custom calibration to the ECM, gives you a 5-inch dash monitor, and supports EAS sensor expansion. Pulsar is the easiest path to power on EcoBoost and Bronco. Evolution is the most powerful and customizable solution.
Gains depend on the truck and the device. The 6.7L Power Stroke EZX Module delivers up to 100 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque on a stock turbo. The F-150 EcoBoost Pulsar XT typically adds 50-90 horsepower and 80-120 lb-ft on 91+ octane fuel depending on the tune level selected. Diesel Evolution CTS3 tunes commonly deliver 60-150 horsepower across the available tune stages. Always confirm specific gains on the product page for your truck.
EAS is optional. The base CTS3 or CS2 already reads dozens of OBD2 parameters, including coolant, IAT, RPM, vehicle speed, throttle position, and many more. EAS sensors add data the OBD2 port does not provide: real EGT readings (not estimated), boost pressure on non-reporting trucks, transmission line pressure, fuel rail pressure, and ambient temperature. If you tow heavy or run a built diesel, EAS is worth it. For daily drivers, the base device is enough.
For 2021-2024 F-150 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost, the Pulsar XT is the most popular choice for its plug-and-play install and on-the-fly tune switching. For owners who want maximum gains, full custom tunability, and a dash monitor, the Evolution CTS3 is the stronger long-term investment. Both are excellent. The Pulsar wins on simplicity, the CTS3 wins on capability.
For 2017-2026 6.7L Power Stroke trucks, the EZX Module is the bolt-on power answer with no ECM modification required. For owners who want both bigger gains and a full dash monitor, the EZX with Insight CTS3 bundle covers both. For owners who want full ECM tuning, the Evolution CTS3 Diesel is the right answer. Year-specific EZX fitments are available for 2017-2019, 2020-2021, 2022, and 2023-2026.
Yes. Edge tuners include a "return to stock" function that restores your factory ECM calibration. Modules like the Pulsar XT and EZX simply unplug. Always return to stock before any dealer service visit, especially under warranty. Keep in mind that Ford ECMs do retain a flash counter that records the number of times the ECM has been written, which is visible to dealer scan tools.
