Rotor and Pad Types

F150 brake upgrades and brake kits are built around both their replacement brake rotors and brake pads, of which there's several different types of both. Rotors come in drilled, slotted, and drilled & slotted variants while there's different pad compounds and configurations per manufacturer.

Brake Rotors
There's essentially three different types of aftermarket brake rotors for the F150s, and each perform somewhat differently than each other, though not in an overly drastic fashion. Drilled Rotors feature holes drilled into the friction surfaces of each rotor which allows heat and gasses to escape down into the rotor's direction vane. Slotted Rotors have machined recesses cut into the friction surfaces that brush away dust and debris from the contact area in order to provide more consistent braking. Drilled & Slotted Rotors feature both drilled holes and surface slots to provide both consistency and less fade.

Brake Pads
There's a ton of different brake pad types and compounds, though they can be broken down into a couple of different categories. Ceramic/Street Pads feature ceramic-based friction materials that feature a smooth engagement and extremely low levels of dust while still improving overall stopping power over stock. Ceramic/Street pads are also fairly easy on your truck's rotors, though they lack the power of some other pad times. Truck/Tow pads use a more aggressive compound than purely ceramic pads, and while they're a little harder on your rotors and generate a smidge more dust, they offer increased stopping power over most other pads, making them perfect for towing or aggressive truck applications.
