Finding the Right Fog Lights for your F150

Aftermarket fog lights are some of the most popular parts out there for the F150s, and because just about everyone is in hurry to swap out their stock fogs for something better, there's more than a few fog light options and routes that you can go on your own truck.

Fog Light Bulb Replacements
The most basic fog light upgrade you can make to your F150 is a new bulb. All 1999-2018 F150s use an H10 halogen bulb for their fog lights, which opens you up to a ton of options since practically any H10 LED or HID conversion kit will work in the fogs. Replacement bulbs and conversion kits also give you a ton of options in regards to output and color to match trucks that came with OEM HID or LED headlights. The only real issue with bulb replacements is that their beam pattern can be a bit hit or miss since they're reusing the stock reflectors and they won't do a ton to change up the look of your truck. Still, they're a perfectly suitable option, and more than a few of our project trucks have used H10 LED kits without any hassles.

Complete Fog Light Assemblies
The next step up from bulb swaps are complete fog light assemblies. These completely replace your F150's fog light and sometimes even portions of the bucket. Most assemblies are powered by built-in LEDs, and they often have specialized lens optics to better harness all that raw LED output than the stock reflectors which makes most full assemblies DOT-approved for street use. The only real issues with complete assemblies is that they can be a bit pricier than some LED conversion options, and you're fairly limited on color temperature choices, so you're not likely to find a set that perfectly matches factory HIDs or LEDs. However, adding a fog light with a black housing to a truck with a black styling theme looks pretty nice.

Who the Heck Needs Street Legal Fogs, Anyway?
The final "tier" of fog light upgrades involves making your fog lights unusable on the street, but you do get a ton of output for all your off-road adventures. More than a few companies make brackets that replace the factory fog light buckets and allow you to drop in a set of (if not several) off-road lights. While this does nix any DOT-approved use of your fogs, you do get a clean way to mount extremely powerful off-road lights without having to drill or hack up the rest of your truck. If you can live without road-going fog lights, then going the off-road route is a good way to go, though it can get expensive fairly fast with the need for both brackets and the actual off-road lights.
