2011 F150 Crew Cab 4X4
Awesome quality and performance, worth the price. Install wasn't bad with two people. It really firms up the ride and soaks up road imperfections. Off-road it shines as well very controlled on all sorts of terrain. I read for months on end on digressive vs progressive and the way I understood it digressive was a better choice for more on road but would still do well off road, I believe I made the right choice. As far as Stage 3, you won't find better customer service, thanks a bunch Lou. I will be a returning customer for sure. Icon gets 5 stars Stage 3 gets 6 stars for going the extra mile even after the sale.

First and foremost, I'm very happy with this setup, though as you can imagine with something as complicated as a suspension system, summarizing the changes between this system and the OEM system isn't as simple as saying 'It's Stiffer' or 'It's Better'. So hopefully I can explain my thoughts without sounding completely confused. I had the system installed at a local shop. Total time to install ran about 4 hours with a 2 man crew, but that also included the installation of a Pro Comp Add-a-Leaf on the back end of the truck which took quite a bit more time than simply dropping the new shocks into place. And here's where the description gets harder to fully explain. The new system is considerably 'stiffer' than the old OEM system, though they had 80k miles on them, but it is not nearly as jarring as the OEM system was. I feel more of the roads 'texture' with the ICON system, all of those very small imperfections in the pavement that you simply don't notice with a typical OEM system. That's not a bad thing, it's just different from OEM. At the same time, when you encounter a larger pothole or frost heave, the ICON system simply soaks it up with ease, whereas the OEM system would jolt the whole truck so hard that the back end would often jut out to one side or the other. That does not happen with the ICON system. You can feel the front suspension compress, then quickly rebound, and then it's over. Smooth, quick, and completely non-jarring. Makes me want to mount a GoPro camera up there to actually see the suspension response. The Pro Comp Add-a-Leaf on the rear of the truck has definitely made it a bit firmer of a ride on the back end as well, while providing about 1.5' of lift. As this is why I installed them, I'm quite pleased with that outcome as well. Off Road, there's simply no comparison. The OEM ride could simply jar fillings out of your mouth, and you never wanted to have ANYTHING loose in the truck with you that could get thrown around like a small missile. Now, with the ICON suspension in place, the truck simply glides over/through holes and ruts that would have had the stock truck spun sideways, or broken. The faster I go, the smoother the ride seems to get. All in all, I'm very pleased. Stage 3 Motorsports even includes a set of the ICON Uniball Caps in their Stage 2 Kit at no additional cost, their shipping was fast, and the few times that I've contacted them with questions, they've been exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. ICON and Stage 3 Motorsports for a double WIN. Thanks guys. Keep up the great work.

Steering is stiff at first but breaks in after a couple hundred miles. The UCAS put alignment spot on and even at full travel there is still clearance between UCAS and spring.

2013 F150 3.5 ecoboost.
Love the suspension. Rides great and big improvement over my 2.5” level. I have 33x12.5 and I have a slight rub when backing up at full turn. I also replaced the stock rear block with a 3” one. I have the lift set a little below the max of 3” and I have 1” of rake. I have about 2000 miles since the install and all is good. Worth the money and love the ride quality on and off road.

Customer Answer Per Icon you need a wheel with 5" or less of backspace to clear a 12.5" wide tire. So a wheel with 4.53" backspace is less than 5" so the tire side wall should not have any issues rubbing the uca.

Customer Question I have 2" spacers on my coilovers and want no spacers at all, i want to put this up to the 3" and put 35x12x50x18s on it, the wheels i picked out are -12 offset, is this enough clearance and backspace to clear without trimming?

Customer Answer We would need to know the width of your wheels to determine whether you'll need to trim. That being said, if you're using a 9" wide or 10" wide wheel with a -18mm offset, you will need to trim quite a bit with a true 35x12.50" tire. Customer Question HI, I have a 2013 f-150 4wd with this kit installed. I went to my local shop to have a 4.5 inch superlift installed, but they told me this kit will not work with a lift kit. Reason being they said was the icon coilovers and upper control arms are incompatible. It could cause over extension and cause damage. Do you know this to be true?

Customer Answer They're sort of right. You can use the ICON 2.5 coilovers with the SuperLift kit, you just need to set them to a 0" factory ride height and use the SuperLift strut spacers to keep the truck at 4.5" of lift. The UCAs can be reused without issues. The rear shocks in the ICON package are technically long enough to handle the 3.25" rear block in the SuperLift 4.5" kit, but they would be at the bleeding edge of their travel, and you may want to get a shock that's a bit longer.

Customer Answer That depends entirely on the backspacing and offset of the wheels. The ICON UCAs require a wheel with a maximum of a 5" backspace to clear a 315/12.50" wide tire. Your wheels would need to have a 0mm or +1mm offset to clear.

Customer Answer You would need something else to add ride height to the rear. The rear shocks included in this kit do not add ride height on their own, though they can handle more ride height than the stock shocks. This can be accomplished with either a larger rear block, add-a-leaf kit, aftermarket leaf pack, or shackles. How much ride height you'll gain depends on what method you choose and how much rake you're looking to gain back. Customer Answer You will not be able to clear the UCA with 12.50" wide tire on wheel with a 5.5" to 5.7" backspace. The widest tire you could potentially do is a 12"/305mm wide tire with those backspace options.

Customer Answer With a wheel with 4.75" of backspace, both a 285 wide and a 315 wide tire will clear the UCAs. The 285/75R17s will likely clear without any issues. Your will have valance and rear wheel well rub with the 315/70R17s. The only truck we have specs on is our 2012 F150 5.0L Project Truck, which at the time had 18x9" XD Misfits with 0mm Offsets and 275/70R18 General Grabber Red Letter Tires.

Customer Answer Factory Raptor wheels and tires will not clear the UCAs included in this package. You would need a wheel spacer in order to clear that wheel and tire combination. You're also going to rub on your truck's valance and rear wheel well, especially if you decide to add the wheel spacers.

Customer Answer The ICON 2.5 coilovers are already quite stiffer than stock out of the box. While adding preload to gain more ride height will technically make them even stiffer, you probably won't notice that big of a difference if you compare the 2.5s at a 2.5" ride height versus a 3" ride height. The bigger difference is going to be just installing the 2.5s in place of stock alone.

Customer Question I have had the icon stage 2 on my 2013 Ford F-150 fx4 for over 2 years now and I want to raise my truck up with a 6in lift. Would I beable to use the front coil overs with the added spacers from the 6inch lift?

Customer Answer You technically could reuse the front coilovers as long as you kept the lift kit's strut spacers. That being said, we do recommend that you lower the coilovers down to a 0" stock ride height, at least until you figure out where your angles are going to be at with your lift kit of choice. The rear shocks of the ICON kit will not be compatible with a 6" lift kit, since they're not long enough. You may also run into issues with reinstalling your ICON Upper control arms, due to the lift kit's strut spacer pushing down the upper coilover mount to the point where it interferes with the upper control arms.

Customer Answer Yep. The ICON 2.0 rear shocks can handle up to 2" of total rear lift, which is enough to meet the 1.5" to 1.75" of rear lift provided by a 3" rear block.

Customer Question Just a clarification, I'm trying to decide which suspension to choose and I am also looking at the ICON UCA. I currently have 18" XD Series Monster II which have 5.71 B/S with Nitto Terra Grappler G2 LT275/65R18. As far as I can tell these should not have any issues? If I upgraded to the Trail Grappler LT295/70R18 later on would I have any issues?

Customer Answer That's going to depend entirely on what wheel you're using, specifically its width, backspacing, and offset. Keep in mind that the upper control arms included in this package require a wheel with a maximum of a 5" backspace to clear a 12.50" wide tire. Customer Question Why will this kit not work with factory 18's, I am curently running 295/70r18s with a bds 2.5" level and only rub when the wheel is fully cut in reverse? Are the new control arms that much bigger than the stock?

Customer Answer You can technically fit the factory 18" wheels with this kit, but you'll be extremely limited in tire size due to the backspacing requirements of the upper control arms. ICON's UCAs require a maximum of 5" of backspace to clear a 12.50" wide tire. Since the stock 18" and 20" wheels have 6.5" of backspace, by the math, you'll be limited to an 11" wide wheel. That being said, we've had a few folks run 295 wide (11.6") tires with the ICON UCAs on the factory wheels without issues, though clearances are pretty close.

Customer Answer That wheel and tire combination should clear the UCAs, given that the backspace of those wheels is about 5.8", and the UCAs require a maximum of a 5" backspace to clear a 12.50" wide tire, though you'd likely need to crank the coilovers up to their full 3" ride height to clear a 34" tall tire like that. That being said, If you're in the market for wheels, I'd recommend trying to meet ICON's backspace recommendations so that you do have the option of going with wider tires down the road. In the case of a 9" wide wheel, you'd probably want to stick with a maximum of a +12mm offset.

Customer Question Hi, I have a F150 fx 4 model 2014 and I want to install an Icon suspension that can lift the truck 3 inches max. I got 20 inch wheels with 305/55-20 tires. The question I have is which Icon suspension can give me a plush ride (not stiff) providing more stability on turns at the same time. I drove one f150 with fox suspension and hated it and another one with Promcomp shocks and was also too stiff. I ride my fx4 in the city and roads in Ecuador, my country with some holes and pavement that usually has been fixed and its not regular. I will buy the suspension from you and have it shipped to my freight forwarder in Miami. Regards ? Fabian

Customer Answer ICON's 2.5 Coilovers all tend to stiffen up ride quality to a large degree, due to the aggressiveness of their valving. If you want a smooth on-road ride with general suspension performance improvements, then check out our Boss Trail Package 1 that includes F150Lifts 2.0 Coilovers, 2.0 Rear Shocks, and your choice of either a Fabtech or ICON upper control arm.

Customer Answer You should clear the UCAs and not need to trim your valances with that particular combination, however, you really won't be able to go much wider than your current tires on those wheels due to their large backspace unless you use wheel spacers.

Customer Question This stage 2 kit comes with aftermarket control arms. Do these control arms provide a leveled truck with proper front drive angles? Been pretty curious why these kits don't come with aftermarket spindles as well. Looking for the best way to level a 12' SCAB Lariat so I can run 33" while maintaining all my drive angles up front.

Customer Answer The control arms included with this kit do not correct your UCA angles when increasing ride height. They merely allow for more travel once you do add front height, since their uniball joint won't bind like the factory UCA's balljoint. Leveling your truck will throw off your UCA, LCA, and CV angles to some degree, but as long as you stay 3" or under, you won't see excess wear or a significant decrease in drivability.

Customer Answer It will not fit with the factory 18" wheels of the F150s due to the backspace requirements of the upper control arms. You'd need at least a 1.25" to 1.50" spacer in order to get the kit to work with 33x12.50" tires without rubbing. You can possibly fit the factory tires with this system, though you'd likely end up with at least some rubbing when articulating or at full lock.

Customer Answer The kits really aren't equivalent in regards to either their performance or their ride quality at all. The ICON Stage 2 package comes with 2.5" diameter front coilovers that are specifically valved for off-road performance and trail riding applications, while being extremely resistant to fade at the expense of some extra stiffness on the road. The BOSS Kit includes 2" front coilovers that are valved for more general-purpose use and keep your street ride smooth, while still being able to handle trail riding and off-roading without too much of an issue. Both kits come with 2" rear shocks, though the ICONs are a bit more aggressively valved and due a better job at dissipating heat, while the Boss shocks offer up a smoother street ride. Basically, the ICON system is a more "pure" performance coilover and shock package versus the BOSS kit, though you do give up some on-road ride comfort in the process.

Customer Question What's the difference between the stock upper control arms and the icon control arms?

Customer Answer There's a lot that's different. The stock arms are stamped steel, use a standard rubber ball joint, and have standard rubber bushings for their body mounts. The ICON control arms have a welded tubular steel design that makes them stronger than stock, us a uniball joint that gives them more travel and prevent binding, come with polyurethane bushings for the body mounts that reduce deflection, and are topped off by a black powder coat finish.

Customer Answer That combination should work, but you need to keep in mind that the coilovers are set at around 2-3/4" of ride height out of the box, and you may need to crank them up to a full 3" to avoid rubbing on your FX4's factory fender flares, so I recommend grabbing ICON's 2.5 Coilover Spanner Wrench if you're going to install these yourself.

Customer Question I have a 2012 crew cab f150 with a 4 inch Rancho lift and was looking at this system To use in conjunction for a better travel. Is this possible? Thanks

Customer Answer Yes and no. You'd definitely be able to use the coilovers and the upper control arms without any problems. ICON's rear shocks, however, aren't long enough for 4" of lift. If you're pretty dead-set on this combination, give us a call directly at 1-877-578-2433 and we can get a package together for you.
