2012 Ford F-150 EcoBoost
After some deliberation, I went with the 3 over the 4 because of others mentioning some loss of bottom-end. I was a little worried that I'd lose some sound in the process, but I couldn't be happier with my decision. The sound is incredible. My truck sounds like a real truck now. Great, low rumble at idle and during acceleration, but hardly any drone at cruising speed -- once I turn on the radio, I can't even hear it. You can also hear the turbos spool up more during acceleration -- sounds almost like a turbocharged diesel now. Shipping from Stage 3 was awesome and timely. Installation took about an hour and was done in my driveway, by myself. It actually took longer to get the stock exhaust out than to put the new one on (tip: use jack stands on truck frame instead of rear axle to get more clearance for the exhaust to slide out). Combined with a K&N Filter, aFe Charge Pipe, and a tune, I'm noticing a little extra power, but I haven't really tested it yet.

Great fitment, easy install, and sounds great until you hammer down. But nothing will make a v6 sound that good. Very happy with my purchase.

Installation was a piece of cake. The hardest part was getting the stock exhaust off, which we ended up cutting it to get it off. Probably doesn't help that we did it on a couple of ramps in the driveway. Sound is great and is exactly what i was looking for. Nice low rumble and you can slightly hear the turbos. It's not loud to the point of making your neighbors hate you either. You can hear it in the cab in stop and go traffic, but it's not annoying or overly loud. When cruising the sound is almost none existent. Very happy woth this product and if your reading this review just buy this exhaust system already you'll love it! Next mod is going to be the afe stage 2 cold air intake. Thanks stage 3 for the great price and speedy delivery

Great sounding exhaust! Sadly it was damaged in shipping, still managed to make it work.very easy assembly. Excellent purchase for the price. The aluminum has a very bad smell when hot.

2011 F-150
So, my story might be different than others. I didn't purchase this because I was looking to mod my truck. I have a 2011 F-150 with 180K miles that has been through 9 NE Ohio Winters (hint, there are times my Race Red truck looked white). The stock exhaust was missing the pipe between the resonator(or whatever that is called) and the muffler. I'm not a modder, I wasn't looking for performance or sound other than it not sounding like it didn't have a muffler. I probably should have gone with a cheaper kit, but I wanted the stainless steel so that it wouldn't rot out in one winter. It is installed, and seems to work, and seems to be stable. However, I had to buy new bolts for the flange, as the provided ones did not have enough thread to actually tighten down. I had to reverse the hanger from the directions to actually align with my mounting points and get the pipes to actually fit together fully. This was my first time doing this, and I pulled it off, hopefully this thing doesn't fall on the ground, because I barely got the hangers(other than the one on the muffler) into their slots, they don't stick out much from the the other end. Oh, at times it can sounds more like a Honda Civic than a F-150, but most of the time I really can't hear it, which honestly, is what I want.

Installs quick and easy. Everything lines up perfect. 2 hours to remove existing and have this bolted up and running. Sounds amazing at start up and rev. I gave it three stars because it drones terribly when applying heavier throttle.

Excellent exhaust system. Everything was right on for the installation. Was really easy and straight forward when installed. This exhaust has a really awesome sound. The sound at highway speeds really isn't that load. Idle and when you jump on it is where the great sound is. Noticeable power improvement at acceleration. Shipping was really fast. This is the best exhaust system by far.

Customer Question Do you have a sound clip video of the MDRP XP 3" Cat Back exhaust?

Asked by: John Baca - 9/21/2022
Customer Answer Not on a 3.5L EcoBoost, unfortunately.

Customer Question I want to get a cat back exhaust. I’m looking at a 3” or 4”. I currently have AFE stage 2 CAI, Brew city boost adaptive tune, and 5 Star tunes. Plan on getting High flow catted downpipes in the future. Should i go 3” or 4” catback

Asked by: Anthony - 6/19/2021
Customer Answer A cat-back won't make too much of a difference either way, though typically, the 4" kits skew a bit towards higher horsepower and the 3" toward low-end torque. Which you should choose really depends on what you're doing with your truck, how much drone you want to deal with, and whether or not the tip size matters at all to you. The power/torque difference won't be huge, even with high-flow downpipes. If you're still not sure, give us a call directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at [email protected].

Customer Question Are these ordered by specific wheelbase length? Do not see order options, thanks 2014 3.5 eco crew cab

Asked by: Steven - 12/19/2019
Customer Answer This kit cannot be ordered pre-trimmed for a specific wheelbase. MBRP includes an extension pipe for longer wheelbase trucks and cutting instructions for shorter wheelbase trucks. If you have a SuperCrew Cab 5.5ft bed truck with a 145" wheelbase, you would not need to do any trimming. You would simply not use the extension pipe and install the exhaust as-is. If you have a SuperCrew 6.5ft bed, you would need to use the extension pipe, but would likewise not need to trim. Only 133" and 126" wheelbase trucks require trimming.

Customer Question Does all exhaust help your fuel economy or is there certain exhausts that are better? 3” vs 4”?

Asked by: Mike - 12/29/2018
Customer Answer A cat-back kit alone will not provide a significant boost to fuel economy, no matter what diameter you end up going with. If you want to improve your truck's fuel economy, your best bet would be custom tuning.

Customer Question I have a '13 F150 Echoboost completely stock. Not sure I really plan on doing too much to it. I want the sound without sacrificing power so do I go with the 3 or 4 inch system? What if I decide to add a high flow intake later...will that give me back any lost low end power with the 4 inch system?

Asked by: Jr - 5/13/2018
Customer Answer If you're not planning on tuning your truck, then the 3" cat-back kit is probably a better choice. You have to keep in mind that the 4" kits tend to only lose a smidge of low-end torque (in exchange for more top-end horsepower), and a good tune tends to mitigate that effect. If you're planning on tuning your truck, then your choice is really more going to depend on what kind of sound you're going for.

Customer Question Will this set up for a 2011 f150 with the 5 liter engine?

Asked by: Brett - 8/2/2017
Customer Answer This cat-back kit will technically bolt up to a 5.0L F150, though we can't really guarantee what sort of sound you'll get out of it.

Customer Question How does the sound compare to the 4 inch? I have the 4 inch and I think it's a little loud for me, is this one not as loud?

Asked by: Tyler - 10/23/2016
Customer Answer The 3" system is not quiet as aggressive as the 4" kit. However, whether or not it's quieter enough for you is a matter of taste. Instead of getting a new cat-back, you may want to check with local exhaust shops and see if they can cut in or weld in a small resonator to your current kit and see if that would be more cost-effective.

Customer Question Does stage 3 have any exhaust you sell for a 2012 f150 3.5 ecoboost that is CA legal and will pass smog?? I saw the cold air intake from AFE is legal and I'm picking that up soon.

Asked by: Rob - 9/13/2016
Customer Answer Any cat-back kit is 50-State Legal, since they come after the catalytic converters and don't effect emissions outputs. Unfortunately, none of our downpipes are currently CARB approved.

Customer Question Is exhaust much louder thin the stock exhaust system. The mods I have afe charge pipe, Edge cs2 tuner, airraid filter. Planning to get a inter cooler afe or the Wagner not sure witch one to go with . Want to get a exhaust system I like the stainless works chambered exhaust . Witch exhaust would you guys say would work the best you my truck the stainless works chambered or mbrp 3" stainless steel system ? Thank you David.

Asked by: David (Orlando FL) - 2/6/2016
Customer Answer The MBRP 3" kit is louder than stock, but not too overbearing. What's best for your truck is going to depend on what you're specifically looking for, and since exhaust preference is a matter of taste, your best bet would be to call us directly at 1-877-578-2433 so we can get more specific with what you need.

Customer Question I'm looking into this exhaust for my 13 f150 ecoboost but don't know if I would rather the 3in or 4in. I heard if I do the 4in I'd lose some power. Is that true?

Asked by: kyle - 8/10/2015
Customer Answer You can see a noticeable loss of low-end torque with a 4" kit, but it really depends on your tuning and other modifications. You do tend to gain more high-end horsepower with a 4" system, however.

Customer Question Will this exhaust system void my warranty?

Asked by: Hadley f-150 ecoboost 2012 - 2/26/2014
Customer Answer It most definitely should not. That being said, all warranty decisions are up to your individual dealership, so it's best to talk to your service advisor. Still, a cat-back exhaust kit has almost nothing to do with the rest of your truck's Powertain, so you should be fine.
