2010-2026 Ford Raptor Performance Parts & Accessories: Build the Ultimate Off-Road Truck

The Ford Raptor arrived in 2010 as the first mass-produced, factory-built desert truck, and it immediately changed what people expected a pickup to do. Every generation since has pushed the limits further, from the original 6.2L V8 SVT to the twin-turbo 3.5L EcoBoost that replaced it, and most recently to the supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 in the Raptor R. These trucks leave the factory with serious suspension travel, upgraded axles, beefed-up frames, and off-road-oriented tuning that puts them well ahead of any standard F-150. But the Raptor's factory capability is a starting point, not a ceiling. The aftermarket has evolved right alongside each generation, and the right combination of suspension, intake, exhaust, lighting, and protection upgrades takes a Raptor from factory-capable to legitimately race-ready. Whether you own a first-gen SVT, a second-gen EcoBoost, a third-gen with the coil spring rear, or the new Raptor R, this page covers the upgrades that real Raptor owners trust to push their trucks harder, faster, and further than Ford ever intended.

Raptor Generations: What Makes Each One Unique

Understanding what's under your Raptor is the first step to building it correctly, because each generation has a distinct powertrain, suspension architecture, and set of strengths and limitations.

The first-generation Raptor (2010-2014) debuted with Ford's 5.4L Triton V8 and quickly upgraded to the 6.2L Boss V8, a naturally aspirated powerhouse that made 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque. The first gen used a coil-over front suspension with long-travel Fox 2.5 internal bypass shocks from the factory and a leaf-sprung rear end with Fox 2.0 rear shocks. This generation established the Raptor's identity and remains the most accessible entry point to ownership. Its naturally aspirated engine responds well to intake, exhaust, and header upgrades, and the leaf-spring rear suspension is easy to upgrade with add-a-leaf packs or full replacement leaf springs.

The second-generation Raptor (2017-2020) replaced the V8 with Ford's high-output 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, producing 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. This generation introduced the fully boxed frame, aluminum body panels, the Torsen front differential, and a new BFG KO2-equipped wheel and tire package. The second gen retained the leaf-spring rear suspension with Fox 3.0 internal bypass shocks and added Fox Live Valve electronic damping on later models. The EcoBoost engine responds dramatically to tuning, intake, and downpipe upgrades, making the second gen one of the most tuneable trucks in the aftermarket.

The third-generation Raptor (2021-2024+) brought the most significant suspension change in Raptor history: a five-link coil spring rear suspension replacing the leaf springs, paired with massive Fox 3.1 Live Valve internal bypass shocks. This generation produces 450 horsepower from an updated 3.5L EcoBoost and adds new drive modes, trail control, and the available 37-inch tire package from the factory. The coil spring rear transforms the ride, giving the third gen dramatically more rear wheel travel and composure at speed than either previous generation.

The Raptor R (2023+) drops the supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 from the Mustang GT500 into the third-gen chassis, producing 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. It's the most powerful production truck Ford has ever built and the most extreme factory Raptor to date, with upgraded axles, a beefier driveline, and the same five-link coil spring rear as the standard third-gen Raptor. Modifying the Raptor R is about refining a truck that already has enormous power, with the focus shifting to suspension tuning, cooling, exhaust sound, and protection.

Suspension: The Heart of Every Raptor Build

Suspension is where the Raptor was born, and it's where most serious builds start. The factory Fox shocks are excellent, but the aftermarket takes them to another level with increased travel, higher-capacity reservoirs, better valving for specific use cases, and true race-ready performance that the factory setup can't match.

Fox Racing Shox is the factory supplier and remains the benchmark for Raptor suspension upgrades. Their aftermarket offerings step far beyond factory spec, with the Fox 2.5 Factory Race Series providing a direct bolt-on upgrade with increased reservoir capacity and race-proven internal bypass valving. The Fox 3.0 Factory Race Series with internal bypass is the go-to for owners running high-speed desert, with massive oil capacity that resists fade during extended runs at triple-digit speeds. For the ultimate Raptor suspension, the Fox 3.5 Podium shocks deliver race-class performance with the kind of damping control and heat dissipation that wins actual desert races. Fox front coilovers and rear shocks are available for every Raptor generation, with application-specific valving that accounts for each platform's unique weight, geometry, and intended use.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics has built a massive reputation in the Raptor community as the premium alternative to Fox, with a product line that includes bolt-on coilovers, rear shocks, and complete suspension systems engineered specifically for the Raptor platform. Icon's 2.5 Series and 3.0 Series coilovers use precision-machined aluminum bodies, proprietary CDCV (Compression Damping Control Valve) technology, and remote reservoirs that give the owner adjustable compression damping from the engine bay. Icon is particularly popular with the overland and expedition crowd because their valving tends to favor a progressive feel that works beautifully across a wide range of speeds and terrain types. For Raptor owners who want the absolute best in ride quality and adjustability, Icon front coilovers paired with Icon rear shocks transform the truck into something that feels custom-tuned for your exact use case.

Beyond shocks and coilovers, upgraded control arms are one of the most impactful Raptor suspension upgrades available. Factory upper control arms use a stamped steel design that limits caster correction, ball joint strength, and suspension travel. Aftermarket uniball upper control arms from brands like Icon, Camburg, and Total Chaos replace the factory arm with a forged or billet unit that uses a heavy-duty uniball joint instead of a traditional ball joint, delivering more travel, better alignment geometry, and dramatically more strength for high-speed impacts. For third-gen Raptors with the coil spring rear, upgraded coil springs from Eibach, Icon, or Fox allow you to fine-tune ride height, spring rate, and load capacity to match your specific build. And spacer leveling kits are a popular starting point for owners who want to level the stance and add clearance without replacing the entire shock and coilover setup.

Power: Getting More From Every Raptor Engine

Every Raptor engine responds to bolt-on power upgrades, but the approach differs by generation and powertrain.

EcoBoost Raptors (2017+) are arguably the most tuneable trucks on the market. The twin-turbo 3.5L responds aggressively to intake, downpipe, and tune combinations, with gains of 50 to 100+ horsepower readily achievable on pump gas depending on the tune level and supporting modifications. S&B Filters produces the industry-standard cold air intake for the EcoBoost Raptor, with a sealed airbox, high-flow filter media (available in oiled cotton or dry filtration), and a dyno-proven design that delivers measurable power gains and a deeper intake note. Pairing an S&B intake with a quality downpipe upgrade and a custom tune from a reputable calibrator is the single highest-ROI power combination for any EcoBoost Raptor. The factory turbo system is incredibly efficient, and reducing restrictions on the intake and exhaust sides allows the turbos to spool faster, build boost more efficiently, and sustain power at higher RPM. Tuners like SCT, HP Tuners, and COBB provide the hardware, while calibrators like MPT (Mountain Performance Tuning) and 5 Star Tuning build the custom calibration files that optimize fueling, boost targets, and shift points for your exact combination of modifications.

For exhaust, Borla and AWE produce the best Raptor exhaust systems in the aftermarket. Borla's ATAK (aggressively tuned applied kinetics) system delivers one of the most aggressive exhaust notes available for the EcoBoost Raptor, with a deep, resonant tone under load and a refined cruise note that avoids cabin drone. Borla's S-Type and Touring systems offer progressively more refined sound levels for owners who want improvement over stock without the full volume of the ATAK. AWE Tuning has earned a massive following in the Raptor community with their 0FG (zero effing given) catback, which delivers one of the loudest, most aggressive exhaust notes available for the 3.5L EcoBoost. AWE also offers their Touring Edition for owners who want AWE's build quality and engineering with a more refined sound character. For Raptor R owners with the 5.2L Predator, the exhaust focus shifts to unleashing the supercharged V8's natural voice, and Borla's cat-back systems for the Predator platform deliver a deep, muscular V8 note that the factory system intentionally mutes. First-gen Raptor owners with the 6.2L V8 benefit from cat-back and header combinations that let the big naturally aspirated engine breathe freely.

Oil separators are a near-essential upgrade for any EcoBoost Raptor, because the direct-injection turbo engine produces significant crankcase blow-by under boost that can coat the intake tract with oil vapor and carbon deposits over time. A quality oil separator from brands like JLT or UPR catches that oil vapor before it re-enters the intake, keeping the intake valves, intercooler, and throttle body cleaner and helping maintain peak performance over the long term. And cooling upgrades are increasingly important for tuned Raptors, because higher boost levels and increased power output generate more heat that the factory cooling system wasn't designed to handle. Upgraded intercoolers, oil coolers, and radiator upgrades keep intake air temperatures and engine oil temperatures in check during sustained high-performance use.

Wheels, Tires, and Brakes: Contact Patch and Stopping Power

The Raptor ships with excellent factory wheels and tires, but aftermarket upgrades open up options for more aggressive tread patterns, lighter wheel weights, wider fitments, and beadlock capability. Raptor wheels from Method Race Wheels, Fuel Off-Road, and KMC are among the most popular in the community, with beadlock and beadlock-ready options that let you air down to single-digit pressures for rock crawling and deep sand without risking a tire bead popping off the rim. Raptor tires range from the legendary BFGoodrich KO2 that comes factory to more aggressive options from Nitto (Ridge Grappler, Trail Grappler), Toyo (Open Country M/T, R/T), and Falken (Wildpeak M/T) for owners who want more bite in sand, mud, and rock.

Brakes are one of the most overlooked Raptor upgrades, and they shouldn't be. A truck that weighs 5,500 to 6,000 pounds and regularly runs at high speed over rough terrain puts enormous thermal load on the brake system, and the factory brakes can fade during extended high-speed desert runs or aggressive downhill descents. PowerStop produces the leading Raptor brake upgrades, with the Z36 Truck & Tow kit delivering carbon-fiber ceramic pads and drilled-and-slotted rotors that dramatically improve stopping power, reduce fade, and last longer than the factory components under heavy use. The PowerStop Z23 Evolution Sport is a popular daily-driver option with improved bite over stock. For serious racing and extreme use, big brake kits from Wilwood and StopTech deliver race-class stopping power with multi-piston calipers and dramatically larger rotors.

Lighting: See the Trail, Own the Night

Off-road lighting separates a Raptor that looks the part from one that can actually run hard after dark, and factory headlights, even on the higher trims, leave significant room for improvement in both output and beam pattern. Morimoto has become the gold standard for Raptor headlight upgrades, with the Morimoto XB LED assemblies delivering a plug-and-play replacement that dramatically outperforms factory headlights in every measurable way. Morimoto headlights use projector-based optics with a clean, focused beam pattern that puts light where you actually need it on the trail, with a modern DRL (daytime running light) signature that immediately updates the truck's appearance. For the rear, Morimoto XB LED tail lights deliver the same plug-and-play quality with brighter output, updated sequential turn signals, and a premium look that matches the rest of the build. Morimoto is particularly popular with Raptor owners because their assemblies are engineered for the specific Raptor housing, ensuring perfect fitment with no modifications, no wiring splices, and no compatibility issues with the Raptor's CAN-Bus electrical system.

Beyond headlights and tail lights, auxiliary off-road lighting is where Raptors really separate from regular trucks. Baja Designs remains the industry standard for auxiliary pods, light bars, and bumper-mounted lights, with the LP4, LP6, and Squadron Pro delivering the kind of output that turns night into day on the trail.

Protection: Bumpers, Steps, and Underbody Armor

A Raptor that's actually used off-road needs protection, because rocks, ruts, brush, and trail obstacles will find the factory plastic bumpers and exposed underbody components faster than you'd expect. Addictive Desert Designs (ADD) produces the most recognized off-road bumpers in the Raptor community, with the ADD Stealth Fighter and ADD Bomber delivering purpose-built steel and aluminum bumpers that integrate winch mounts, auxiliary light provisions, and D-ring recovery points while dramatically improving approach angle. ADD bumpers are laser-cut, CNC-formed, and robotically welded, and their fitment to the Raptor platform is among the best in the industry. Fab Fours, Bodyguard, and SVC Off-Road also produce excellent Raptor bumpers for owners looking for different aesthetics and feature sets.

Side steps and rock sliders protect the Raptor's lower body from trail damage while providing easier cab access, and mud flaps prevent the oversized factory tires from destroying the paint with rocker spray. For owners who tow boats, trailers, UTVs, or camping gear, the hitches and towing category includes receiver hitches, wiring, and towing accessories engineered for the Raptor's specific bumper and frame configuration.

Drivetrain: Gears, Axles, and Driveline Strength

The Raptor's drivetrain is significantly stronger than a standard F-150, but it still has limits, especially when you add more power, bigger tires, or both. Upgraded axles from RCV Performance, Dynatrac, and Dana Spicer deliver chromoly shafts and heavy-duty CV joints that survive the kind of impact loads that snap factory axles on desert jump landings and rock crawling drops. Gear and driveline upgrades are essential for owners running significantly larger tires than factory, because the effective gear ratio change from taller tires shifts the engine out of its power band and kills acceleration, towing capacity, and drivability. A proper re-gear to 4.56 or 4.88 ratios restores the factory feel and often makes the truck feel even better than stock by putting the engine in a more aggressive part of its torque curve.

Bed and Interior Protection: Daily Utility for a Purpose-Built Truck

Raptors get used hard, and the interior and bed take as much abuse as the suspension. Custom-fit floor mats from WeatherTech and Husky Liners protect the factory carpet from the mud, sand, and water that inevitably ride in after every off-road session. Tonneau covers from BAK, Retrax, and TruXedo keep cargo dry and secure, improve fuel economy, and give the bed a finished, clean look. And bed accessories including DECKED drawer systems, Bedslide cargo management, and Morimoto XB LED bed lights turn the Raptor's bed from an empty box into an organized, well-lit, genuinely functional storage system for overlanding gear, tools, recovery equipment, and anything else you need to carry into the backcountry.

Building Your Raptor: Where to Start

Every Raptor build is different, but the most successful ones follow a logical progression rather than randomly bolting on parts. For most owners, suspension is the right first investment because it transforms the truck's actual capability more than any other single category. Start with upgraded front coilovers and rear shocks from Fox or Icon, add upper control arms for proper geometry and increased travel, and dial in spring rate with aftermarket coil springs if you're on a third-gen. Once the suspension is where you want it, move to power with an S&B cold air intake, a quality downpipe, and a tune for EcoBoost trucks, or intake and exhaust for the 6.2L V8 and 5.2L Predator. Add Borla or AWE exhaust to get the sound right. Upgrade brakes with PowerStop to match the increased capability, add Morimoto lighting to see the trail, and protect the truck with ADD bumpers and proper mud flaps. Every category builds on the last, and a well-planned Raptor build delivers dramatically more performance and capability than the sum of its parts.

Ford Raptor Parts FAQ

What's the best first modification for a Raptor? For off-road performance, suspension is the highest-impact first upgrade. A front coilover and rear shock upgrade from Fox or Icon transforms the truck's ride quality and capability. For power, an S&B cold air intake paired with a tune is the best bang for the buck on EcoBoost Raptors.

Will aftermarket parts void my Raptor's warranty? Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, aftermarket parts cannot void your warranty unless the manufacturer proves the specific part caused the specific failure. Quality brands like Fox, Icon, S&B, Borla, AWE, PowerStop, Morimoto, and ADD produce parts that are engineered to work with your Raptor without causing issues.

Do the same parts fit all Raptor generations? No. Each Raptor generation has a unique suspension design, powertrain, and chassis configuration, so parts are generation-specific. First-gen (2010-2014), second-gen (2017-2020), third-gen (2021-2024+), and Raptor R each require parts designed for that specific platform. Always verify fitment for your exact year and model before ordering.

Can I install Raptor upgrades at home? Many upgrades are within reach of a competent home mechanic. Cold air intakes, exhaust systems, floor mats, mud flaps, tonneau covers, and lighting upgrades are straightforward DIY installs. Suspension systems, bumpers, and drivetrain work are more involved and may benefit from professional installation.

What's the difference between the EcoBoost Raptor and the Raptor R? The standard Raptor uses a 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 producing 450 horsepower. The Raptor R uses a 5.2L supercharged Predator V8 producing 720 horsepower. Both share the third-gen chassis with five-link coil spring rear suspension, but the Raptor R has upgraded axles, a stronger driveline, and a unique exhaust and cooling package to handle the additional power.
