A supercharged 5.4L V8 is nothing to scoff at and it did a mighty fine job of taking our GT500 from a dead stop to a blur. That being said, this is still Stage 3 and we simply can't leave it untouched. We kept the mods relatively simple with a new JLT cold air intake, C&R reservoirs, Corsa sport exhaust and a few other key upgrades to give our car a little nudge in the right direction. One of the first engine upgrades we grabbed was a JLT "Big Air" cold air intake for our GT500 to help optimize air flow into the supercharger. While an intake isn't the most powerful upgrade available, the simple install, improved throttle response and bump in horsepower all made it well worth the time to install on our project car. JLT achieves these gains by designing their intakes to incorporate a full 123mm ID at the MAF housing leading into the tube, making for a much smoother interior without any transitions, steps or couplers to upset the air flow. 2007-2009 Shelby GT500 JLT "Big Air" Intake
Our aggressive Shelby build would never be complete without a mean exhaust note to back up the power and the looks so we grabbed a Corsa Sport Dual Rear Exit 2.5" Axle-Back Kit to bring out that tough V8 growl. The system is built out of 304 stainless steel with black chrome tips so the kit is both durable and nice to look at. When it came to swapping out the clutch on our GT500 we went a little overboard and installed a Centerforce DYAD DS Twin Disc Clutch Kit capable of handling up to 1300lb-ft of torque. Even though our Shelby is far from that level of power currently, it does allow us to add more power in the future without having to worry about the clutch. When you peek under the hood of a GT500 it should be a feast for the eyes and while a supercharged 5.4L V8 is nice to look at, cheap plastics and hardware around it can kill the appeal. Another simple mod that cleaned up our Shelby's appearance under the hood was the California Pony Cars 1-Piece Radiator Cover Panel.
