It's no secret that we here at Stage 3 are huge fans of lighting modifications, and given the chance, we'd change every bulb and lighting component on our truck until judgement day. While we did manage to control ourselves, our F150 still ended up with a stylish Recon LED tailgate bar, Raptor style grille lights and new HID headlights. Once the new ADD bumpers went on we improved the trucks off-road lighting with a pair of Rigid Duallys and a Rigid E-Series 40" Light Bar. You can purchase these exact lighting mods in the product section at the bottom of this page.
Our first lighting upgrade on the truck was a Recon 60-Inch Xtreme Scanning Tailgate LED Light Bar. Like most tailgate light bars, this set up installs in the jamb of the tailgate right above the rear bumper. The bar is mounted to the truck using 3M automotive tape and includes wiring that ties into the taillight and hitch electrical connectors to make for a simple installation. The light bar worked magnificently and provided our F150 with a little more flare on the rear end. Check out our Install Guide for this LED light bar. Recon 60" Xtreme Scanning Tailgate LED Light Bar
Ford's factory halogen headlights leave a lot to be desired, so we decided to change up the headlights on our F150 project truck to get more light and a more aggressive look. We picked up a set of 09-14 C-Style LED Switchback HID Projector Headlights from The Lighting Firm. These headlights started out their lives as Ford OEM projector HID headlights that the Lighting Firm then took and upgraded with an LED strip that has a white running light function and an amber turn signal. Unfortunately these headlights are no longer available, but we do have plenty of other great F150 lighting options to choose from. You can view our entire selection of F150 headlights on our 11-14 F150 Headlights page.
Easily one of our favorite F150 upgrades of all time is the Raptor Style Grille Light Kit. This simple part uses a bracket with 3 amber LED's that mount up behind your truck's grille to create a similar look to the amber LED's found on the front of F150 Raptors. The install was clean and simple and the result is a fresh, unique lighting set up for the front of our F150. 2009-2012 F150 Raptor Style LED Amber Grille Light Kit
After we got out our ADD Stealth front and rear bumpers mounted, we knew we had to make use of the additional lighting space. Up front we wired in a Rigid E-Series 40" LED Combo Light Bar that fit perfectly into the brackets ADD had welded on the bumper. The E-Series 40" LED light bar is by far one of Rigid Industries' most powerful lighting systems and we have been nothing but pleased with its light output on the trails. The bar features a black powder coated, cast-aluminum housing and a thick Lexan lens that can endure extreme punishment, as well as vibration and impact resistant circuitry for the LED's. If you've ever had to reverse your truck at night while out in the desert or woods, you know that visibility can be a major problem. We set up our F150 with a pair of Rigid Dually LED Spot Lights in the rear bumper that could be flicked on at a moments notice should we find ourselves needing to back out of a sketchy situation. Compact and versatile, the Rigid Dually's provided a ton of output while drawing a minimum amount of power. The Dually's low price point and design makes them ideal for a wide range of lighting applications, not just reverse lights. If you pay attention, you might notice another pair of these lights hiding behind our F150's grille in some of our photos. Rigid Industries Dually LED Light - Spot
