Our hunting rig was going to need some functional armor out in the woods, so to keep it's front end and underbelly safe, we bolted on a Westin grille guard and a set of RCI skid plates. Sharp rocks, stray branches and tight trails are all less of a worry now and the menacing look is a great bonus! Check out all the details below.
Ford didn't build the front end of the F150 to endure an onslaught of of off-road hazards or the capability to drop-in a winch. Thankfully, we were able to pick up a Westin HDX grille guard with a winch mount to take care of both the protection and the utility side of things. This grille guard is built from a mild steel and powder coated in black for unparalleled durability and style. Along with our grille guard we also grabbed a Westin HDX Flush Mount 6" LED Kit and a Warn VR10-S 10,000lb Winch with Synthetic Cable to give us a solid recovery option if we get caught in a sticky situation. 09-14 F150 Westin HDX Winch Mount Grille Guard
An often overlooked area to protect on the F150 is its underside. While they do have some minimal skid plate protection from factory, one large rock in the wrong place can easily cause severe damage to the engine, transmission or transfer case. For maximum protection, we installed RCI's full skid plate package which contains powder-coated steel plates for the most critical parts of the powertrain. Unfortunately our Westin grille guard does prevent the front-most section of the engine skid plate from being able to attach so we had to leave it off. 09-14 F150 RCI Full Skid Plate Package
