Our STX F150 is a basic truck from factory which has its benefits, but to make it an effective hunting rig we needed to add some better storage and more utility. A new DECKED bed drawer system, Rhino Rack roof rack with full size spare tire, Westin headache rack and drop steps all helped prepare this truck for long weekends in the woods. Get all the details below!
Truck beds are useful for hauling large items, but when it comes to managing equipment and hauling things like rifles, tools and recovery gear, we needed a way to organize and protect our stuff. For our F150 hunting truck we chose to install a DECKED drawer system. The unit is built to perfectly fit the F150's bed shape and both drawers are capable of carrying up to 200 pounds while the top deck can handle an impressive 2000 pounds. We optioned our system with locks, 2 D-Boxes and some dividers to get the best possible organization in the drawers. 04-14 F150 DECKED Truck Bed Sliding Storage System - 6.5ft Bed
One of the goals with this hunting truck was to be able to haul our four-wheeler without the need to pull a trailer. The 6.5' bed on our F150 is just about the perfect size, but the four-wheeler's front bumper is only inches away from the rear glass. To protect the cab and keep the glass in one piece we installed a Westin Headache rack at the end of the bed. The rack is sturdy and features pre-drilled tabs at the top to allow for aftermarket lights to be installed (so we also added two Rigid SR-M LEDs). Installation of the rack will require some drilling, but is a simple process overall. 04-18 F150 Westin HDX Headache Rack
We bolted on a pair of Westin's Oval Drop Steps to help make our F150 a little easier to get in and out of especially after it was lifted. While we probably wouldn't recommend these as a true rock slider, they do provide slightly more protection than a factory F150 step and are backed by a 3-year warranty from Westin. The gloss black finish also blends nicely with the other black accessories on the truck. 09-14 F150 SuperCab Westin GenX Oval Tube Drop Steps
Cleaning the rear wheel wells and inner bedsides can be a nightmare on stock F150's since they don't come standard with any sort of liner. We anticipated this problem with our hunting rig and picked up a set of Pendaform liners for the rear. They are form fitted specifically to F150's, install quickly and also provide a more "finished" appearance on the back of the truck. What's not to like? 09-14 F150 Pendaform Rear Wheel Liners
We set up our F-150 with a pair of Rhino Rack Vortex 2500 Bars and a Large XTray Cargo Basket to provide us with space for our full size spare tire without taking up precious storage within the truck's bed. The rack's feet have a specialized clamp that hooks into the F150's door jamb and uses tension to lock the cross bars into place. This creates a simple, no-drill install that won't damage the truck's roof. F150 SuperCrew Rhino Rack Vortex 2500 2-Bar Roof Rack , Rhino Rack Large XTray (58x43x6")
