Aggressive Construction

The Toyo Open Country A/T II features an aggressive sidewall and open tread block design which allows your truck to get through dirt, mud and snow with ease... all while maintaining a quiet ride. I'm looking at buying these tires with 18x9 wheels with a 0 to -12mm offset and a 2-2.5" leveling kit for my 2013 f150 xlt. First question, do you have to do any modifications to make this combo fit? If so, what exactly? Secondly, how safe is it really to put this wide of a tire on a 9" rim only? I would go to a 10" wheel but the selection at that wide is not very good.

We used this tire on my truck (our 2011 F150 XL Project) in conjunction with a set of Moto Metal 18x9" MO971s with a -12mm offset (which have since been discontinued, unfortunately) and Halo Lifts front coilovers set at about 2.75" of ride height and I had to do a ton of valance and bumper trimming, as well as trimming of the back side of the front wheel well in order to get them to clear. Even then, they really didn't stop rubbing until we put on the Hammerhead Low Profile Bumper which had more clearance than stock. The 9" wide wheels work just fine, and likely help them deform a bit more when they're aired down. Granted, you won't be able to take a hard turn at 85mph, since the tire does deform a bit under load on such a narrow wheel, but in the two years I've had the truck, we haven't had any serious issues as far as stability and drivability is concerned.
