Customer Question Why do you think going from a 3.55 to a 4.1 in an 3.5 ecoboost isn't worth it? I'm running 3.55 with a set of 315/70/17 Raptor take offs and it sucks. It lugs 6th gear and yes its tuned

Asked by: Bryan - 1/1/2021
Customer Answer Tuning alone tends to take care of the vast majority of issues related to jumping up in tire size, since the 3.5L EcoBoosts have a ton of low-end torque already and tuning only increases that and extends the power band farther up the rev range. Factor in the cost difference between tuning and regearing, and it's generally a better idea to go the tuning route, if you have to choose. If you can do both, then absolutely go for it. If you're having issues with your truck lugging, you should probably talk to your tuner.

Customer Question Im planning to do a build and am going to be running 37x12.5 tires on 17's, I have a 2018 2.7 ecoboost would this rear end be good enough for that or should I go up another size

Asked by: Andrew - 3/6/2020
Customer Answer That's going to somewhat depend on what gears you're starting out from, as well as how much fuel economy you're willing to sacrifice in order to win back acceleration. You also need to make sure that your truck actually has a 9.75" rear end, as most 2015-2020 2.7L F150s have Super 8.8" rear ends. In general, 4.11s and a custom tune should still get you decent performance and acceleration. However, you may want to jump to 4.56s if you are going to run 37" tall tires. Give us a call directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about what you're going for and what rear end your truck is equipped with.

Customer Question I currently have a 2011 5.0 with the 3.31 rear end. I just upgraded to 33" BFG KO2. With the bigger tire size and the amount of cross country trips with my RV, would it be beneficial to just get 4.11 or will I have enough towing power with 3.73?

Asked by: David - 5/20/2019
Customer Answer Your choice is really going to depend on how heavy your RV/fifth wheel is, what kind of terrain you're towing over, how much fuel economy you're willing to lose, and whether you're willing to also tune your truck on top of doing gears. Your best bet would be to tall us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about how aggressive you should go with your gearing.

Customer Question If you already have the e-locker, can you JUST buy the new gears or do new gears require different E-lockers and LSDs?

Asked by: sixeighty680 - 7/27/2017
Customer Answer Yo do not not need a different differential for installing 4.11 gears. The factory E-Locker will work just fine with more aggressive gearing.

Customer Question I have a 2016 F150 xlt 5.0 4x2 with 3.31 gears. The truck is lifted 6" with 35" tires. The truck is horrible on the highway and towing. What gear ratio is recommended for the increased tire size? 3.73, 4.11, 4.56?

Asked by: Mike McNeil - 6/25/2017
Customer Answer In general, your best bet would be to go with 4.11s or 4.56s if you are going to be doing a lot of highway towing. However, your problem is that your truck likely has the new Ford Super 8.8" rear end and not the 9.75" rear end required for these gears. Unfortunately, Yukon does not currently have 4.11 or 4.56 gears for the new Super 8.8s, though they are working on them. Please verify your F150's rear axle before ordering.

Customer Question I have the 3.7L F-150, I am stuck with it for a while and looking to make it tow a little better as I have a trailer and a Jeep to pull around. Would 4.11 be a good upgrade from the stock 3.73? Also will I need a master rebuild kit. The truck currently has 35k miles. It is 2wd.

Asked by: Andy - 4/11/2017
Customer Answer Keep in mind that most 3.7L V6 trucks with RWD/2WD came from the factory with 8.8" rear ends and not 9.75", so you may want to check if you still want to order these gears. As for jumping up to 4.11s from 3.73s for towing, the more aggressive gearing would help, however, if your truck isn't already tuned, you may want to pursue a custom tune before gearing. Tuning is generally a more cost-effective upgrade, especially if your truck already has 3.73s. While 4.11s can help, you would likely also need a master install kit and then installation, which gets pricey in a hurry. Also the jump up to 4.11s isn't that drastic from 3.73s, so it's tough to say how much you'd actually benefit.

Customer Question If I do buy both the front and back, where would I get the shim get to adjust for backlash? And what is backlash?

Asked by: Moustapha - 3/29/2017
Customer Answer Yukon actually makes both carrier and differential shim kits. We just don't currently have them listed. Backlash is the clearance between gear teeth. The pinion and ring gear teeth have a slight amount of clearance between them so they don't bind, and you use shims to adjust backlash to OEM specs to prevent excess wear, noise, and other issues.

Customer Question my truck is at 15,000 miles, can i buy both front and back 4.11 gears to replace my stock? or will i need an install kit of some sort? i would really like to know if i could purchase these without an install kit and have it work.

Asked by: moustafa - 3/28/2017
Customer Answer If you're truck does have fairly low miles on it, you probably don't need a master install kit. That being said, you'll have to be careful during the install to not damage any of the stock bearings or seals, which is much easier said than done (though still doable). You may also need a shim kit in order to adjust backlash.

Customer Question 2014 f-150 3.5L ecoboost 3.31 gears. Im looking to get 33in tires and the SCT livewire with stage3 tunes. Would I be better off with 3.73 gears or 4.11?

Asked by: NolaEcoBoost - 10/18/2016
Customer Answer Honestly, unless you're trying to do something specific with your truck, you probably ought to just try the custom tune out with your choice of tires first and see where you're at. 33" tires aren't a huge jump over stock, and generally a tune will get you where you need to be. That being said, neither gear choice is really terrible. 3.73s will get you good acceleration and feel with 33" tires. 4.11s will make your truck rip pretty hard and hurt your fuel economy pretty good with 33s, but they will give you some wiggle-room to go bigger in the future.

Customer Question Truck with stock tires and 3.55 elocker, would upgrading to these help with power?

Asked by: Chris - 10/24/2015
Customer Answer Gears don't generate more horsepower or torque, they just allow for faster acceleration by changing your F150's final drive ratio so that you better hit your engine's power band, especially when you jump up to larger tires. Depending on your truck's engine and its tires, you'd likely be better off with a tune or custom tuning, if power gains are what you're looking for, especially if you have an EcoBoost F150.

Customer Question 2015 F150 3.5L Ecoboost, FX4 with 3.55 rear. Looking at going with the 4.11 Rear End Gears, is there a package for front & rear? Or, what changes need to be made to the front when changing the rear?

Asked by: Utah - 10/13/2015
Customer Answer You would also need a set of 4.10s for the front (4.11s and 4.10s are close enough that you won't have problems), you'll also need install kits for both. Frankly, jumping up to 4.10s on an EcoBoost F150 from 3.55s is not usually worth the huge cost, depending on what you're trying to do. Please give us a call directly at 1-877-578-2433 so we can get more specific about what you're trying to do and other possible options.

Customer Question Your product description says these will handle 35s, but will they handle 37s? I did the math and 4.11 with 37s will bring my RPMs back to almost exactly what they were when the truck left the lot. Thanks.

Asked by: Javi - 10/6/2015
Customer Answer While that is correct, you're also asking your truck's engine to turn a very heavy 37" tire and wheel combination at that stock rev range, which can still make your truck feel sluggish (depending on your engine, tuning, and other performance parts), which is why we generally recommend 4.11s for 35" tires and 4.56s for 37" tires. Granted, you will get a bit better fuel economy with a 4.11, and if you have an EcoBoost F150 (especially one that's tuned), then you can still do 4.11s without much fuss.

Customer Question Are we able to keep the factory e-locker with these gears?

Asked by: Javi - 10/6/2015
Customer Answer Yep. According to Yukon, the functionality of the E-Locker is not effected by their gears.

Customer Question I see this is Yukon 4.11 rear gears, but you have G@ 4.10 front gears. doesn't the ratio have to be the exact same? or can i combine the 4.11 rears with 4.10 fronts? if not what do i do? also, do you have an update on when these will be available?

Asked by: David - 9/9/2015
Customer Answer They don't need to be the exact same, so you'd be able to run Yukon's 4.10 front IFS gears with these 4.11 9.75" rear end gears without issue. As long as the difference is within an extremely small percentage, you'll be fine.
