Bought this kit a few months ago, upgraded to the 2000 cfm throttle body and heat exchanger fans. What a kit! Instant power! I did the installation myself. It was a little challenging, my advice to anyone that is doing it themselves is to take your time. Mine took 2 full days to do in the driveway. Very happy with this kit!

Customer Question I tow approximately 7k lbs in 115°+ heat, sometimes going up steep grades. I know Whipple says you can tow with the supercharger but real world data from actual customers would be informational. Will overheating be an issue considering the Whipple may be producing boost for an extended (5-10 mins) period of time while going uphill? Are there any cooling upgrades to help keep all the components cool?

Asked by: Terrance - 9/8/2021
Customer Answer Unfortunately, we don't have any solid data on Whipple-equipped trucks and towing fairly heavy. It's possible that the extra power generated by the supercharger may keep your overall RPMs lower when pulling and won't cause excessive downshifting, thus mitigating heat generation to begin with. However, it's far more likely that since these trucks tend to have heat problems when towing in general, that the supercharger will likely not help. You may want to look into Mishimoto's All-Aluminum Radiator if you're concerned about heat.

Customer Question I intend on adding additional modifications to my truck like headers. Is it possible to tune for this without interfering with the portion of wipples tuning that effects "fuel, spark, knock detection, torque management, transmission control and electronic throttle control," since that portion of the tuning is designed to protect the drivetrain?

Asked by: Jake - 8/4/2019
Customer Answer If you're looking at shorty headers that just replace your stock manifolds, then you would not need to get revised tuning. If you're getting long tube headers, then you would need a custom tune, due to the fact that long tubes change AFR (especially in supercharged applications). If you are going with long tubes, you're better bet would be the Whipple 2.9L Tuner Kit and a tune on a local chassis dyno.

Customer Question I already have American Racing headers, hi-flow cats, and Magnaflow catback with a Lund Racing tune. Would the Whipple tune be able to maintain/modify my PCM and incorporate those mods into their new tune?

Asked by: Nuke - 6/23/2018
Customer Answer The included Whipple tune would not be able to compensate for the headers. You would likely need a custom tune on a chassis dyno.

Customer Question I purchased this kit over a year ago w/o the throttle body. Can I upgrade my throttle body now and would it need a different tune? Also, I have a cat back exhaust, Gibson duel sport but would like something a little milder. Can I install different exhaust with out changing the tune? Thanks.

Asked by: MTpower - 5/15/2018
Customer Answer You would need a new tune for the throttle body. but you would not need any revised tuning for a new cat-back system.

Customer Question would I be able to load whipples tunes onto my livewire ts if not would 5 star make create tunes for this?

Asked by: 2015 lariat - 3/15/2018
Customer Answer It may be possible to have Whipple's tunes emailed to you in a .cef that can can be used by your Livewire device. Unfortunately, 5-Star does not currently tune for the 2.9L Whipple Kits.

Customer Question Do you install your system and what's the total cost? I have a 2015 F150 5.0 and I want max performance. Yes it's going to be an everyday driver but mpg isn't my worry.

Asked by: Fred Frost - 8/10/2017
Customer Answer We do not do installs. Depending on your location, we can probably recommend a shop. In general, installation of this system isn't overly difficult (just time-consuming, a bit tedious, and has a lot of steps), and any performance shop should be able to handle the installation.

Customer Question As the kit includes the WHIPPLE AXLE/WHEEL FLARE DEVICE, Is it required to have a FLASH PROGRAMMER to upload the new file?

Asked by: Fahad Bousbait - 6/28/2017
Customer Answer The supercharger comes with its own device, so a different tuner/programmer is not required.

Customer Question What is the difference between the throttle body the kit comes with and the upgrade to the monoblade?

Asked by: Sab - 1/8/2017
Customer Answer The standard throttle body is 98mm in diameter and has a pretty standard design. The elliptical monoblade throttle body is 140mm in diameter and gets you more power and response.

Customer Question do you guys offer tuning upgrades if a guy wants to add headers and whatnot later on down the road after the whipple?

Asked by: sab - 12/21/2016
Customer Answer Unfortunately, neither Whipple, 5-Star, or ourselves are able to offer email tuning for long tube header systems. You would have to get a custom tune on a local chassis dyno.

Customer Question What is the max hp and boost on this supercharger?

Asked by: kevin - 11/14/2016
Customer Answer With the out-of-the-box pulley and tuning, the supercharger produces roughly 9psi of boost pressure, which was good for 525 rear-wheel horsepower (650-675 crank horsepower, depending on drivetrain configuration) on Whipple's test truck.

Customer Question I have a hypermax enegry 2.0 programmer. I know I would put it back to stock but I have oversized tires. Would the pro all be able to adjust for tire size or would I just need to program the whipple with procal then plug hypermax back in for tire size change?

Asked by: JAMES - 11/12/2016
Customer Answer When you register your ProCal device to get your tuning from Whipple, they request your tire size. The ProCal App also has the ability to adjust for tire size and gear ratio if you change them up down the road.

Customer Question I own a 2015 F150 5.0 My question is: is this kit bolt on and drive ready? How more extra will this upgrade be outside of me ordering as in and bolting on?

Asked by: PHIL - 10/29/2016
Customer Answer The system is pretty much a drop-in install. The only thing that needs any sort of planning is tuning, since you have to register your ProCal tool and wait for Whipple to send you an email with your tuning. We'd strongly suggest getting the tuning process going as soon as your kit arrives, so that you're ready to tune right after the kit's installed.

Customer Question Is this system E85 friendly??

Asked by: Jamie - 7/6/2016
Customer Answer Not out of the box. You'd need a custom tune to successfully use E85, and depending on your truck's other modifications, you may need to actually jump up injector sizes to handle an aggressive E85 application. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 1-877-578-2433 so we can get more specific about your truck and your needs.

Customer Question How well does the whipple perform on everyday driving conditions?

Asked by: Brent - 4/9/2016
Customer Answer It kind of depends on what options you choose to go along with the system and whose tuning you end up using. Using a base kit with a standard throttle body and Whipple's tuning, you'll still have pretty goo street drivability with a fairly linear power curve so you don't feel like the truck's trying to run away from you when you barely dab the gas. A system that includes Whipple's 1900cfm throttle body will make the truck have a very off/on type of feel, since that throttle body just floods the supercharger with air and power, which makes the truck just want to GO RIGHT NOW NOW NOW. Basically, if you're using your truck for as a more general-purpose commuter versus all-out performance truck, you'd probably want to stick with the standard throttle body versus the 1900cfm monoblade to preserve some street drivability.

Customer Question how much does the hp and torque go up? and will in improve mpg?

Asked by: joshua - 8/28/2015
Customer Answer Whipple's test truck managed to hit 525 horsepower and 450lb-ft of torque at the wheels, though I'm not entirely sure of its drivetrain configuration, rear end gears, or tire size. In general, you'll usually see a loss in fuel economy with this kit, as it tends to bring out the aggressive driver in most folks. Still, it's possible to see a slight gain if you actually try to drive for fuel economy.

Customer Question I have a 2015 f150 5.0 on order and have been looking at a Roush 2.3 and saw the new Whipple that looks like it should produce more HP. Do you have any figures or track results? Thank You

Asked by: chuck - 2/13/2015
Customer Answer We don't have any track numbers, but Whipple will have preliminary dyno numbers showing horsepower and torque gains here extremely soon.
