Can Add up to 2.25" of Front Leveling to your Truck
Leveling out your 2009 to 2013 4WD F150 is practically a rite of passage for new truck owners, and while a typical leveling spacer is a good option, those pucks won't be adding any suspension performance. When you want something that make your truck actually perform as it should both on the road and off it, you'll need this pair of Bilstein 5100 Series adjustable shocks. The 5100s have a slotted area on their bodies and comes with an adjustable spring seat collar that can be set from 0" to 2.25" of front ride height height without any hassles. On top of their leveling and lifting abilities, the 5100s give your truck better suspension performance by improving rebound, response, and articulation all while keeping your truck's street and highway ride crisp and smooth.
High-Quality Piston and Valving for Improved Performance
Just like all of Bilstein's high-quality suspension components, the 5100 series front shocks are built from the ground up for performance, longevity and reliability. The shocks are each built around a 46mm digressive piston used with a nitrogen gas-charged monotube design. The valving has a self-adjusting, deflective disc design that makes these shocks effective for a variety of different applications. The shock body is made out of zinc-plated steel with a unique Triple-C coating. The Bilstein 5100 series shocks have 5" of travel depending on their ride height settings, giving them plenty of articulation ability for many applications. The shocks install right into place of your factory shocks and reuse your stock shock mount and spring assembly.

This shock is an improvement in ride quality over stock. I like the height adjustibility (i set to only 1 notch higher). HOWEVER,after hitting a pothole offroad my front right blew out. I ordered another and sent the 5100 strut in for warranty replacement. They, after I spent $31 shipping, denied the claim saying it overextended. The shocks are an improvement over stock but my goodness their warranty is a LIE and I CANNOT RECOMMEND. I only replaced with Bilstein because of good warranty and they certainly are not what I thought they would be. There are better shocks for just a bit more. There are much better warranties too. 'Warranty request # 3278493, RGA#60041695 has been completed. Warranty credit is denied. Shock has been pulled apart due to abuse, not a manufacture defect' Well I am sorry Bilstein that I had to keep driving on it for a couple weeks after it blew out on a pothole! I guess you know how to keep your costs down on warranties. signed - not a happy man who spent hard earned money...twice

First, Stage 3 Motorsports equals lowest price, fast shipping, and excellent service! Second, Bilstein adjustable shocks out of the box seemed very well made and durable. I had a local shop install them due to the need for a machine to compress the springs for install. I opted for the full 2.25 height adjustment and it pretty much perfectly leveled out my truck. So far with the addition of the 33 MT 10ply tires, I love the way the trucks rides now! It feels more planted with less body roll. Yes, it is a little bit of a stiffer ride, but I do not mind that. Overall, great product and I will definitely be buying from Stage 3 in the future!

2013 Supercrew F150 4x4
I originally installed these at the highest setting (2.25) and was very displeased with the ride quality. It was very bouncy and the suspension maxed out over every bump. I reduced it to 1.5 and was much happier. The ride was still firm, but almost no bounce. It is also extremely important to tighten the nut at the end of the gas shock until about 1 of threads stocks out beyond the nut. If you don't do this right the shocks do not work properly. I also recommend a professional install unless you have large metric sockets, 4 spring compressors, and a lot of patience. This is a moderately difficult job. Very happy now with the product.

Very pleased with the Bilstein 5100's. I installed at the 1.5 setting to my 6 Fabtech. The ride is a little rough due to the 6 strut spacer from the lift but that's expected. Still a very high quality strut.

I installed these as a replacement shocks for my son's truck. They where replacements for his truck. When we got them of and set back up at the full 2.25 lift that the front shocks will let you have. The old ones were setup just like this. We found out that there is no front suspension. Everything goes through the front tires. The springs never work. Always the tires. Plus all the front ball joints are shot because of these shocks being set up like this for years. This truck only has 56K on it. These are the worse shocks you can sell to level a truck out with. Now he has to save up more money for more parts. Then he has to figure out down the road how he's going to replace these and keep his ride hight. These are junk!

I bought these to match the Bilstein 5100's I installed in the rear recently. I installed them using the stock height slot so I won't comment on the leveling aspect but I will say they are nice struts. I don't feel there is a drastic improvement compared to the stock struts unlike the rears which are night and day. If you are changing them yourself make sure you have a quality spring compressor that accepts the correct diameter coil. My gear wrench units where a little undersized but got the job done.

Great product! It is a stiffer shock but I like the ride of the truck now - sporty and stable. Before there was too much body roll and it felt like a car. Now you definitely feel like you are driving a truck! I set mine on the 3rd setting, which left about a 1/2 rake to the rear. Great service, fast shipping. Thanks!

Had these installed at the their highest setting . Great ride on country roads where most of my driving is done. Takes bumps very well. Plan on a 1 inch lift in the rear to give it back a little rake. Sits 1/4 inch high in the front at the moment

I want to put a zone 6 inch kit on my 09 f150 4wd I really want to not have a strut spacer and bilstien makes a lifted struts for trucks w/ a 6 in lift but it says it will only fit the Pro Comp lift kit why is this?is it just a marketing ploy so you have to use a pro comp kit?
Asked by:
Wookie
- 3/30/2024
Bilstein does not offer any standard strut assemblies for 6" height that we have access, and we do not carry the Pro Comp ones to be able to compare unfortunately so we would not be able to confirm if you would have any clearance or fitment issues with them on a Zone lift.

Do I have to use the factory spring or can I use new spring from another brand
Asked by:
Brady Hanson
- 6/22/2022
The Bilstein 5100s can accept the stock spring or an OE-replacement spring like the Eibach Pro-Lifts. They won't be able to accept aftermarket ERS springs meant for complete coilover assemblies. If you're unsure about your possible springs, give us a call directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at

I’m have a 2012 F150 FX4 and I want to add some lift with new shocks. I like these Bilstein 5100s. I have Gen 2 Raptor takeoffs I want to put on with 315/70/17 OEM rims. Can I fit them with highest setting lift on these shocks? I’ve also seen someone put a 1/4in shim to give it closer to 2.5i ch lift. Please let me know what I need to do to fit these rims and tires.
Asked by:
Derek
- 6/20/2021
You'd likely need some minor trimming to clear those wheels and tires, though as long as you're setting the 5100s at their highest ride height setting and you're not planning on adding a UCA sometime in the future, any trimming will be minor.

I have a 13 FX4 with a 2.5 leveling kit; but I still have a slight rear rake; I’m running 35s with FX4 20s. I’m curious as to if I can run these at the lowest setting to achieve just a bit more height without any damage to the components?
Asked by:
DJ
- 9/5/2020
The lowest ride height setting on these strut assemblies is a 0" factory ride height, which wouldn't do you much good. The next setting is a .75" ride height setting, which would put you over 3" of total front ride height, which we don't recommend. Depending on how much rake you still have, you're better bet would be to run the 5100s or the similar
Eibach Pro-Truck struts
with
Eibach's lift spring
on the second-highest .75" ride height settings to get you some more lift without going beyond 3" of total ride height.

I have these set at the highest setting and am running a 285/70-17 on pro comp Rockwell’s 0 offset. I had to trim only in one side a little bit but would like to run a true 33” tire, is that going to come with more trimming issues?
Asked by:
Banks
- 5/25/2020
The answer is likely "yes", though it depends on how much you already trimmed and whether you're also going to go wider as well as slightly taller. If you are going wider, then you'll almost definitely have to trim more.

I have a basic 6in fabtech lift want to level out the front would I need to add a driveshaft spacer with this because my kit did not come with one
Asked by:
Jack
- 5/17/2019
It's possible that you would need one, though it does depend on how far your slip yoke is pulling out of the tailshaft of the transfer case right now. It would also depend on how high you were setting the 5100s in order to level out your front end.

Could I use these to stretch my 6.5 inch McGaughys lift to an 8.5 inch lift or are there better options available?
Asked by:
Chip
- 9/14/2018
In theory, you could. However, you'll have to reuse the McGaughy's strut spacers, and you'll have to keep an extremely close eye on your brake lines, suspension geometry, and front driveshaft. You also have to keep in mind that the Bistein 5100s only have four ride height settings, which are 0", +.75", +1.5", or +2.25", so you won't have a perfect 2" of extra height with these strut assemblies. If you're looking for a specific ride height gain, then a set of adjustable coilovers may be your better bet.

Do you honor Bilstein warranty? Also what size tires would you recommend with the complete leveling kit. 2.5" in front and 1" in back?
Asked by:
Hill
- 11/29/2017
We do honor Bilstein's warranty, and can help with any warranty issues that may arise from Bilstein's 5100s. These strut assemblies are only capable of 2.25" of front leveling, however, for most leveling applications, we generally recommend a 33x11.50" tire or close metric equivalent. That being said, you can fit taller/wider tires depending on what wheels you're using and their specs. As to what specific tire you should use, that really depends on what kind of traction you want off-road vs. what kind of ride comfort you want to keep on-pavement vs. what you're doing with your truck. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific with what you're trying to do and what you do with your truck.

I am trying to figure what to do without wasting money. I need to do it in steps. Minor off-road mainly on road. End goal maybe 3-4 lift . But maybe start with a level kit that work with lift down the road and not wasting part or money from either. What do recommend to start with?
Asked by:
I
- 10/14/2017
If your end goal is 3-4" of lift, then really, anything other than that is "wasting" money to some degree, The real question you need to ask yourself is whether you want to go with a 4" lift that will require subframe trimming, or if you want to go for a 3"-ish lift which would only really require 3" capable coilovers and a larger block. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific with what you're looking for.

I currently have stock struts with a 2" spacer for my level. If I were to go with these would I replace the struts and get rid of the spacers? Also, is it possible to adjust the height after the strut is installed without completely removing it?
Asked by:
STEVEN
- 7/11/2017
If you were to get the Bilstein strut assemblies, you would replace both your current leveling spacer and your factory front strut assemblies. Due to the way the 5100's height adjustment works, you pretty much have to remove them from the truck in order to change their ride heights. While it may be possible to do it while they're still installed on the truck, it would be exceedingly difficult.

I have a 2011 F150 FX4. What is the recommended and/or largest tire size I can fit while using the factory 18" wheels?
Asked by:
John
- 1/3/2017
With the 5100s at their maximum ride height, the largest tire we generally recommend is a 33x11.50" or a close metric equivalent.

Can I stack this along with my 6" Procomp lift that uses a strut spacer to extend the front lift to 8" of total lift?
Asked by:
Devin
- 11/28/2016
You technically can, though we generally recommend starting off the Bilsteins at one of their lower ride height settings (either +.75" or +1.50") before going up to their full 2.25" inch ride height so that you can gauge how much your brake lines will stretch and if you'll need a larger driveshaft spacer.

I have an 09 F150 FX4 with a 6" Readylift lift kit. Still have stock shocks as the kit uses a 6" spacer on top of the assembly. Can I use these shocks to add an additional 2.25" of lift to my front??
Asked by:
Jake
- 11/27/2016
We don't recommend increasing the ride height on ReadyLift's lift kits due to issues that can happen with their steering shaft modifications and other problems.

Can I install this kit with my 6" pro comp lift to lift the front end an extra 2"?
Asked by:
Kevin
- 10/29/2016
You technically can, however, you need to be careful about brake line length, driveshaft spacing, and your overall suspension geometry. Frankly, I'd start with the Bilsteins set on their .75" or 1.50" ride height settings to start off to ensure you're not getting too tall for the rest of your hardware.

I am looking to increase my front level exactly 1.5 inches. Can you confirm a 1.5" increase on the 3rd setting as I have read the increase could result higher than 1.5 inches total? Was also told the settings are stock, 1, 2, and 2.5 inches which is different than another answer. Anything to confirm is great.
Asked by:

The Bilsteing 5100 struts for the F150s come with four ride height settings: stock, .75" of lift, 1.50" of lift, and 2.25" of lift. So you would need them set on the third perch in order to get the ride height you want.

I have a 2013 F150 screw with 5100s in front on tallest setting and 5100 shocks on rear, will 325/65/18s fit on there also can I add a 2 inch spacer lift in front and 2 inch block on rear or would that require different control arms and other stuff?
Asked by:
Eric
- 9/1/2015
If your Bilsteins are at their highest setting, adding a 2" front spacer would put your truck at 4.25" of front lift, which is way too high for your UCAs, LCAs, and CVs. If you want that much lift, you need to look into doing a
4" Suspension Lift Kit
.

I have a 2013 supercrew xlt ecoboost with 5100 struts up front on the highest setting and 5100 shocks on rear and am wanting to put 325/65/18s (basically a 34.6 tire) on it, Can i also use a 2 inch coil spacer lift if i have these on the tallest setting, or would i need different control arms and other stuff, and a 2 inch block in the rear where i have the 5100 shocks? Will the strut and shock travel be long enough for 2 inch spacers added on
Asked by:
Eric
- 9/1/2015
There aren't any "different" control arms you can use. You would push you UCAs, LCAs, and CVs all past the point where they can articulate at all. You can't add a spacer with the Bilstein 5100s on their highest perch setting. You need a
4" Lift kit
or a set of front coilovers that can add 3" of ride height and then trim your valance and fender flares for those tires.

Does this product fit the 2014 f150?
Asked by:
Brent
- 7/26/2015
It does not due to changes Ford made in the front suspension of the 2014 F150s. Bilstein does not yet have a set of front struts specifically for the 2014 to 2015 F150s at this time, and we have no definite ETA.

Is it possible to install these without using a spring compressor? Just leaving the spring intact, compressing with a floor jack then drop the lower control arm to release tension?
Asked by:
Rob
- 7/25/2015
While technically possible, we
do not recommend it
. The issue is that if you misalign the strut, strut mounts, or spring perch while compressing with a floor jack, you could easily damage any one of the components. Using a spring compressor is highly recommended, even if that means taking the coilover assemblies over to a local shop for the swap.

I have a 2013 FX4 with a 2"(HBS)leveling kit and am looking to upgrade my shocks and gain a little extra height, nothing extreme. I would just remove the leveling kit and add the shocks at the top setting but Ive read reviews that when you put the 5100s at the highest setting the ride quality suffers a great deal. Can you put the 5100s at one setting above stock in conjunction with the 2" leveling kit? Will this cause issues with the other components?
Asked by:
Wade_H
- 6/25/2015
You can technically do it, and you'd end up with about 2.75" of front lift out of the deal, which could give you some rear rake. The only issue is we can't really guarantee ride quality is going to be all that great as the Bilsteins aren't really designed to be used like that. Secondly, you'd be pushing your UCAs to about the maximum angles that you'd want and they'd likely end up hitting the spring at moderate to full articulation. You could still technically fit them both together, however.

While using these adjustable shocks vs. a spacer leveling kit will these be less stress on ball joints etc compared to the spacer?
Asked by:
Jordan
- 5/31/2015
No, as it's the extra ride height over stock that changes the OEM angles and suspension geometry and not the method of changing the height that is the issue. That being said, the amount of extra wear placed on the CVs, UCAs, and LCAs is not overly detrimental to their lifespan, no matter which leveling method you choose.

I have a 6" rough country lift and am wondering, will eliminate the need for the spacer above the strut? I have seen tons of people who have 04-08 f150 do this. just wondering if it will work for 2009 and up.
Asked by:
william bush
- 2/18/2015
You would still need the strut spacer, if you were to install this kit in place of your factory struts. The issue is that the 2004-2008 F150s sit quite a bit lower, so adding a strut or coilover assembly from a 2009+ F150 for use on a lift kit is much more feasible. That being said, you can install these struts onto the spacers of your lift kit, since they're designed as factory-replacements.

Can I use these 5100's in the low stock setting and use a 2" block on top?
Asked by:
robert tarrien
- 2/1/2015
They'd technically all fit together, but you'd be spending a ton of money to have basically the same effect as if you were to install a leveling a kit on top of your factory shocks and all of the odd drivability that spacers tend to bring to the table along with it. You'd honestly be better off doing one or the other, unless you're trying to do something specific, and if that's the case, you should probably give us a call at 1-877-578-2433.

How long roughly should it take for a seasoned mechanic to install these on a 2013 F150 4x4 Screw cab XLT Ecoboost? Also are these the same as the ones with part# 24-239394? Thanks for your time and info!
Asked by:

- 1/21/2015
The times we most often see quoted are around three hours for shops. Granted, they have access to a lift, power and/or air tools, and often a heavy-duty floor-mounted spring compressor, which makes things a bit easier. For a shade tree on jack stands, four or five hours wouldn't be unreasonable.

Do these shocks lift 2.5 or 2.25"? I'm trying to fit 35x12.5x18 tires on stock 2010 xlt 18's with just a leveling kit... truck is a 4wd c supercrew
Asked by:
greg
- 12/4/2014
It's a maximum of 2.25", with settings for stock, .75", and 1.5" below that. You would need a true 2.5" or higher leveling kit to clear 35s, but with stock XLT wheels, you'll probably still be in for some trimming of your front valance.

will these shocks level a stock suspension truck and if so will it need an alignment after installation?
Asked by:
jeramy, 2012 fx4 ecoboost
- 3/25/2014
These shocks can bring your truck up to a leveled stance. An alignment check is always recommended after installing suspension components. Generally, leveling shocks & coilovers won't totally throw it off, but every truck is different and every suspension has a different level of wear and tear so it's always a good idea.
