It's a simple thermostat swap, so the installation is just a matter of draining the coolant, removing a couple of bolts, then swapping it out. After loading the new 5 Star tunes for the cooler stat, I noticed better low end power in my Perf/Tow tune. I, recently, towed my travel trailer and was pleased to see almost a 1 mpg increase in my loaded mpgs. I, also, noticed lower trans fluid temps due to the lower coolant temp and less downshifting under load. My unloaded mpg dropped very slightly in city driving; mixed and highway stayed pretty much the same. I am very pleased with the outcome and consider it a good bang for the buck.

Customer Question Will this require a custom tune, or can it be accommodated by the canned tunes or setting switches on an SCT X4 tuner?

Customer Answer Technically, this thermostat won't require a tune at all. However, you'll only see a real benefit with it if you get a custom tune that turns your F150's fans on at its lower opening temperature.

Customer Question I recently ordered the 170* t-stat from you. How do I go about updating my current tunes for the lower temp t-stat? I had them updated by 5 star about 6 months ago with their Traction Control Delete tunes. I could tell there were some changes made elsewhere in the tuning also. More driver friendly. I am well pleased with the 5 Star Tuning.
