Each of these thermostats opens at a lower temperature than stock which keeps your 5.0L Coyote V8 running cooler and churning out more power. The 5 Star RAT thermostat drops right into place of your F150's factory thermostat and features a factory-style diaphragm that provides OEM-style operation and sealing so that neither you, or your F150 need to worry about leaks or reliability issues. The RAT 170 thermostat will require custom tuning for proper power gains and to ensure reliability.

Custom Tuning Strongly Recommended: 5 Star recommends using custom tuning in conjunction with this thermostat in order to adjust the functionality of your truck's cooling fans to maximize power and performance.

Will this require a custom tune, or can it be accommodated by the canned tunes or setting switches on an SCT X4 tuner?

Technically, this thermostat won't require a tune at all. However, you'll only see a real benefit with it if you get a custom tune that turns your F150's fans on at its lower opening temperature.

I recently ordered the 170* t-stat from you. How do I go about updating my current tunes for the lower temp t-stat? I had them updated by 5 star about 6 months ago with their Traction Control Delete tunes. I could tell there were some changes made elsewhere in the tuning also. More driver friendly. I am well pleased with the 5 Star Tuning.
