The intake is installed and also the tune. I have it set to 87 octane performance mode. Installation was a little over 3 hours. There is a very noticeable increase in power. It changed the sound of the engine to a lower throaty sound.Under the hood is much louder now. I am satisfied that now my truck is faster than any stock truck around. With the exception of a supercharged truck. The most bang you can install on a stock 5.0 for the money.

I was skeptical about doing this intake swap, but I had no choice due to a fault code. Once I pulled the trigger, I was a little intimidated about doing this swap all by myself, having no prior experience. I enlisted a friend, and we got to work on it. Being our 1st time, we took our time, and the entire swap took us about 5 hours. Luckily, I had some folding platform benches that I zip-tied to the tow hooks to keep them from slipping. Once everything was installed, I uploaded the tunes, and yes, major difference. This 4X4 v8 trick felt heavy before, and now, once you press the gas, it feels light as a feather. My gas mileage did not improve or drop. I did get the tunes for all fuel types since it was cheaper at the time of purchase than to come back and purchase later. The hardest part of the installation was removing the 5 harnesses on the back of the original manifold. I also found it was easier to remove the injectors and put them back in. They will get dirty in the process. I recommend doing a fuel additive like Sea Foam for the next 2 fill-ups.

Customer Question The Boss 302 packages with CAI, tuner and tunes. Does the Intake Manifold need any modifications or already have a hole for MAP sensor?

Asked by: Austin P - 9/30/2025
Customer Answer This is a complete kit with all modifications made to the manifold, hardware, and instructions for install on a 2015-2020 F150 5.0.

Customer Question Do you adjust the tunes to specific trucks, i have headers and and exhaust

Asked by: Noah Boysen - 7/12/2025
Customer Answer This kit comes with custom tunes which cover a majority of bolt on modification including shorty headers. You would provide all that information when you fill out the custom tuning information form after receiving your tuning device. If you have long tube headers, you would need a dyno tune for that setup as 5 star does not support email tunes with long tube headers.

Customer Question Can I just leave the tuner in economy mode but use my stock sport mode or stock tow haul mode on the shifter button. This intake is more for looks and to fill up the engine bay pretty much. I don’t really want to use the performance/tow mode on the tuner.

Asked by: Pat - 2/20/2024
Customer Answer You have to use the tunes that are built and provided by 5 star tuning otherwise you will have a check engine light. The Mustang Boss intake manifold included in this kit does not have the IMRC valves and the tune provided removes those from the programming. If you run a stock tune, you will get a check engine light code for the IMRC.

Customer Question If I use the tuner in economy mode can I still use my factory modes on the shifter. Like the sport mode or tow haul mode. That way I can do it on the fly while driving. I prefer not to drive around in performance/tow mode or economy mode on the tuner or factory modes on the shifter all the time. Also can the tuner let program the shift rpms. I don't want it to shift higher then 7250.

Asked by: Patrick M - 2/19/2024
Customer Answer The different modes are still there on the custom tunes from 5 star, and will still make changes to the shifting strategies just like they do on the factory tune files. The tune files included with this kit are built and the shift rpms are set by 5 star and would not be adjustable through the tuning device itself. The Economy and Performance/tow tunes are no aggressive and would not have you shifting over 7250 rpms, and only way that would happen is if you were driving very spirited. Normal street driving, it would not get close to that rpm in between shifts.

Customer Question Hi I would like to purchase this kit I was would like to know if it will also take care if the check engine light with the custom tune and deleting the imrc system? Thank you look forward to hearing from you

Asked by: Bobby - 6/14/2023
Customer Answer Yes, the tune 5 star tuning builds for this kit turns off the IMRC since the Boss manifold does not have the runners in them.

Customer Question Would this fit on a 2018 Ford F-150 5.0 And do you have any instructions?

Asked by: Ivan Azuara - 10/13/2020
Customer Answer The manifold will not fit a 2018 F150, due to the fact that the 2018 5.0Ls use dual fuel injection, which the Boss 302 manifold is not designed for.

Customer Question can I buy just the intake manifold?

Asked by: gerardo nunez - 2/11/2019
Customer Answer For use on a 2015-2017 F150, you will require a customized intake and the tuning for proper installation and operation. If you solely want the Boss 302 manifold for some other purpose, it's available right here.

Customer Question In addition to this package, I would also like to add an exhaust. What exhaust would you recommend, and how much of an additional gain can I expect? I have 35" tires and a lift kit.

Asked by: Brad - 8/2/2018
Customer Answer Cat-backs are such a matter of taste that it's almost impossible to suggest a cat-back system without knowing what sound you're looking for. That being said, cat-back kits will not give your truck noticeable gains. Cat-backs should really only be looked at as a sound and aesthetic modification. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about what you're looking for.

Customer Question I have a 2015 f150 5.0L 4x4, I have your Phase 1 kit and wonder do you sell this w/an adapter to fit the S&B Intake?,and I have the SCT tuner. I also am putting on the short tube headers that are in shipment from you. If you don't have an adapter, then you need to make some if you want to sell more intakes.

Asked by: Thomas Richter - 12/11/2017
Customer Answer It's more than just an adapter that's needed. The K&N Intake 5-Star includes with their manifold package is cut, trimmed, and modified to fit the Boss 302 Manifold, which isn't possible with every intake on the market for the 2015-2016 F150 5.0Ls.

Customer Question will this kit void the factory warranty?

Asked by: Dennis Reitz - 11/7/2017
Customer Answer Due to the nature of the upgrade and the custom tuning that's required for the manifold, this kit can absolutely result in your dealership refusing to repair powertrain components under the terms of your factory powertrain warranty.

Customer Question Does this utilize the stock throttle body, and if so would it be recommended to purchase a larger one?

Asked by: Zack - 9/8/2017
Customer Answer This system reuses the stock throttle body, though you can also use stock-replacement throttle bodies to squeeze out some extra power if you wanted. However, you would need to note your choice of throttle body when you fill out our online tune form so that your tuning would be correct.

Customer Question ETA on 2017 5.0?

Asked by: Derek - 6/7/2017
Customer Answer Unfortunately, we're kind of stuck at the moment until SCT gets tuning support for the 2017 F150s. SCT's current ETA is sometime in July.

Customer Question What's the best way to gain back any lost low end torque with this kit?

Asked by: Brian - 2/19/2017
Customer Answer You should gain torque across the power band, though peak torque does get skewed higher up in the rev range with the Boss 302 manifold. The only real way to gain back some lower-end torque would be with an aftermarket mid-pipe or a full long tube header system.

Customer Question I have a 2015 F-150 5.0 eng. I would like more pulling power. Is this product what I'm looking for and does my truck retain it's factory warranty with this installed? Thanks for your time.

Asked by: Charlie - 7/24/2015
Customer Answer The Boss Manifold Package could help you depending on what you're towing. The issue is the Boss Manifold really adds on top-end horsepower, but flattens out the torque curve a bit in lower RPM ranges. This is potentially good for towing if you're pulling fairly light to mid-size hardware in hilly areas so that you better maintain your speed, but won't help you much if you're towing something heavy and require low-end torque. The kit can absolutely result in potential powertrain repairs to not be covered under the terms of your factory Powertrain Warranty due to both the nature of the Boss Manifold and the tuning that's included in the package, rendering it effectively void.

Customer Question I Want To purchase the boss 302 intake manifold and tuner, but without the k&n Cold air intake. I'd like to purchase the AFE colda air intake instead?

Asked by: Jose Torres - 7/4/2015
Customer Answer The problem is that this is not a standard K&N Cold Air Intake kit. It's a K&N kit that's been customized and modified by 5-Star tuning to fit the manifold. A standard aFe intake kit will not fit with the manifold.
