So… I replaced the rear shocks first with Bilstein 5100’s. Ride improved a little; less jittery over bumps. Compression and rebound is much better than stock. Then I replaced the front struts – firmer yes but expected that with the extra compression; again… ride improved a tab better over stock. So… what I got was a better handling truck with a better response to road conditions over stock. Was it worth the money and was it night and day difference… NO. I hope this helps on your choices.

The product came out great. Leveled the truck perfectly at full level. This install however is not for anyone. The biggest problem i had with it was the nuts that came with the kit from the manufacturer was the WRONG thread!!! In the middle of the install i had to hunt down the correct nut to safely install the kit without stripping the top of the shocks. Unreal. If someone didn’t know these nuts were wrong it could be incorrectly installed and can lead to some serious component failure! Not good. But besides that it’s a great kit i recommend over the puck style leveling kits!

Best shocks on the market. Truck rides and handles so much better then stock. Easy to stall with basic hand tools. I used the 1.75" setting and have no contact with control arm or issues going over speed bumps. I would make this a must buy item for your truck.

This product is really good. Smooth ride. Straightforward install. 2 inch lift as advertised. Just one thing...they didn’t level my truck. I made the mistake of not measuring the rake. I unfortunately assumed it was the same as a 2017 model I owned and leveled perfectly with the same product. It apparently was not the same as I now have a “leveled” vehicle that still has a net rake of 2 inches. I’m not sure where this all went haywire. These shocks fit my 2017 truck and leveled it perfectly. They also fit my 2019 truck but did not level it. Weird.

Customer Question 2019 f150 STX 2WD currently have a 2.5” spacer on top of factory strut. If I purchased upgraded UCA’s designed for 2-4” lift, could I still use the 2.5” spacer and set these new struts to get me 3-3.5” of total lift? The ReadyLift 3.5 leveling kit is about $900 so if I can save some money by doing it this way i definitely will but still want to be safe and not break anything. Also plan on putting a 1” spacer for the rear and fox shocks.

Asked by: Frank - 4/8/2025
Customer Answer Bilstein does not recommend combining their struts with strut spacers to get more lift height. Converstion I has with one of their techs it that could damager the lower part of their struts as well as using a spacer will void any warranty they offer as well.

Customer Question Bilstein 2wd struts set at the second setting will be how much height compared to a 4wd Bilstein set at zero for a 2018 f150.

Asked by: Joe - 2/16/2024
Customer Answer In General, you would need to set them at the max height if you were wanting to be close to stock 4wd height. Give our sales team a call at 623.434.5277 option 1 with any other questions.

Customer Question I am using a Readylift 3.5" SST lift kit on my 2017 2wd and still have some rake, can I use these with the kit to level off the front of my truck?

Asked by: Mike Martinez - 3/24/2022
Customer Answer We don't recommend taking the ReadyLift SST 3.5" kits higher. While you don't have a CV to worry about, going higher will still push your tie rod and LCA geometries to the limit.

Customer Question Will the 2wd version work on a 4wd strut on a 2wd truck? I'm not trying to get additional height, I'm just looking to get a second set of struts to setup ahead of time prior to install and found some 4wd struts for cheap. Thanks

Asked by: sefe - 2/21/2022
Customer Answer If you're asking if you can use a 4WD strut on an RWD truck, then yes, you can. You'll just get slightly more ride height than what the 4WD struts are rated for.

Customer Question i purchased a pair of 5100s with the intent of lifting the front end of my 15 f150 up to the maximum settings (2-2 1/2 inches). ive changed my plan and now am using a 3 inch leveling spacer up front with new upper control arms with the proper geometry to accommodate the height. QUESTION IS: can i still use the 5100s? and what setting should they be on? my instinct says i can, and that i can leave them on the factory lowest setting. please advise. thanks! ....and if i shouldnt use the bilsteins, ill have to send them back to you. please advise which front shock will work for me..

Asked by: Joe Davis - 2/6/2022
Customer Answer You can still use the front Bilstein 5100s on their 0" ride height setting in conjunction with a spacer leveling kit.

Customer Question I have a 2019 f14 red. I would like use an AS 2in in the front and add these at the .79” setting giving it a net raise of 2.79”. And do a rear 1.5”. Would you recommend this since it is still under the “safe zone” of a 3 inch level without having to upgrade UCAs and geometry

Asked by: Red - 12/29/2019
Customer Answer Your geometry will still be thrown off quite a bit, and we can't guarantee what kind of ride you'd get, but it is technically doable. If you're planning on doing a 1.5" rear lift on an RWD truck, you should probably consider using the 4WD Bilstein 5100 rears to be in a more optimal travel range.

Customer Question Pair is 1 shock ??

Asked by: Stormtruper - 10/5/2019
Customer Answer This part number and price is for a pair of front strut assemblies, meaning you get two 5100s: one for the driver's side, and one for the passenger's side.

Customer Question Can these be used on the 4wd model? If so would there be drawbacks?

Asked by: Brian Dickey - 6/18/2019
Customer Answer They'll bolt up, but you'll end up with less ride height than you would with the 4WD version and probably not as great ride quality. Unless you're trying to do something really specific, it's generally not worth it and you should use the 4WD variant.

Customer Question im running the 4.5" Maxtrac spindles. can these be used to get more height? Thanks

Asked by: Jesse - 4/25/2019
Customer Answer We don't recommend it, since additional height from a spacer/leveled strut can potentially cause spindle contact with your coilover spring, due to the design of the Maxtrac spindles.

Customer Question If I am running a 2.5inch leveling spacer on the front can I use these shocks to lift it another 1.5inches of lift?

Asked by: Gus - 3/13/2019
Customer Answer You cannot. We do not recommend running more than 3" of leveling. Beyond that, you run into serious suspension geometry and tie rod issues, and you risk breaking something. If you want 4" of lift, you're much better bet would be a complete 4" lift kit.

Customer Question Can I put these on my 4x4 to lower the front?

Asked by: Justin - 9/3/2017
Customer Answer As long as you set them at a 0" stock ride height, then yes, you feasibly could.

Customer Question Can these be added to the 6in rough country lift on my 2016 f150 to gain additional lift??

Asked by: Jay - 4/6/2017
Customer Answer You can, you just need to be careful with how much lift you add in order to not stretch your brake lines or really throw off your UCA, LCA, or tie rod angles. We generally suggest starting off at the lowest ride height setting and working your way up to ensure there aren't any issues.

Customer Question Are these long enough to be used with a superlift 6" lift kit for the front instead of using the spacer block included in the lift kit?

Asked by: Ryan - 3/22/2017
Customer Answer They are not. You would have to use these front shocks in conjunction with the spacer for proper fitment.

Customer Question I have 2.5" Auto Spring spacers on my current 2016 2WD that I'd like to replace with a new coil-over setup at the same 2.5" increased height. Would you recommend I go with the 4WD adjustable Bilsteins and new 4WD springs? Thanks in advance -Bill

Asked by: Bill - 3/13/2017
Customer Answer It wouldn't be a terrible option, but you would also need a 4WD upper mount and lower spring perch to make the combination work. Also, we haven't had anyone try the combination, so it's tough to say what your maximum ride height gain would actually end up being.

Customer Question These are for the 2wd ? This can give me the inch lift in the front?

Asked by: Yoshio - 2/22/2017
Customer Answer This set of strut assemblies are for 2WD/RWD F150s specifically. They can be set at a 0" stock ride height, +.79" over stock, +1.26" over stock, +1.75" over stock, or +2.1" over stock.
