Absolutely resolved the dangerous rear end hop that this truck has had since it was new. Ford won't own up to terrible shocks on so many of these trucks, and after several dangerous situations hopping all over the road, I ponied up and ordered these shocks to fix it myself. Couldn't be happier now. Thanks to the Stage3 guys for their help. Best place to buy upgrades for your rig.

I love these shocks! The best mod I have done so far. The truck rides so much better on the highway now. A little bit firmer but no more bouncing and rocking side to side over bumps. Towing is much more stable now as well. I wish these were out last year before I bought the auto spring front level. I'm sure the fronts would complete the package but that will have to wait for now.

These are great shocks. Don't really affect the already good ride but eliminate the side-to-side shaking when going over bad pot-holes, railroad tracks, etc. Worth the money. Definitely give the rear a more planted feel.

One of the easiest and best additions to my F-150. Less than 20 minutes to install in the driveway with hand tools and they immediately tamed the rear end hop common with the aluminum body F-150's. Improved cornering by helping reduce the body roll present with the factory shocks and improved the feeling of control while driving across different surfaces. Probably not your best option for heavy off road use but works fine with the light off roading I've done so far.

First off the factory original rear shocks at 1200 miles were already seeping oil. Quality is job eh who cares. The 5100's did a nice job of calming the rear end down. Easy install look great and ride nice. Well worth the time money and effort.

These shocks made a noticeable difference in the ride of my truck. In my area, we have many freeze cracks that rise up on the highways. Prior to these shocks, I could feel the back end shift out from under me when I would go over these cracks, especially around corners. The Bilstein 5100 rear shocks took that feeling out of the truck. Hitting bumps at highway speeds is much more solid and the truck never feels out of control or has any axle shift anymore. I would highly recommend these shocks to anyone who feels the axle shift when hitting bumps at highway speeds, or feels the stock shocks do not adequately handle bumps in the road.

Considering Bilstein's history as a premium damper manufacturer and involvement in motorsports, I'm not surprised the shocks delivered a noticeable improvement. I was looking for more refined control and less rebound oscillation after deep travel compressions. The higher quality and more sensitive valving of the 5100's provided a more plush, smoothness on small chatter while at the same time better recovery on bigger hits while towing. These shocks are a win-win and another vital part in a great towing setup. My F150 is almost exclusively used either unloaded as a daily driver or near GVWR towing a toyhauler, seldom in between loading conditions. As a result, the OEM rear shocks didn't provide the level of composure, control I'd like for either scenario. OEM shocks struggled to provide small bump compliance (that skittering feeling on rough road patches) while light. Towing, rear of truck would oscillate more times that I'd like from a major compression, indicating OEM shock provided too little rebound control. I was also worried about shock fade during long tows. Installation of rear shocks couldn't be easier, 20 minutes at a leisurely pace. Orient shocks so bilstein logo is rightside up, torque upper and lower bolts to 66 ft-lb, done.

Customer Question With a 21/22 model year 4wd, I am going to remove the rear blocks, I am assuming I need to order the 2wd specific shocks? Thanks

Asked by: Brian S - 12/21/2021
Customer Answer If you are going to remove the rear block, then the RWD version would be the better option, since it'll be in a more optimal travel range.

Customer Question My 2015 f150 has the rough country 3” Lift with a 3” rear block. Will these shock be fine with the larger rear block?

Asked by: Drew - 1/10/2021
Customer Answer They would not. A 3" rear block provides a 1.5" net lift, which is a bit too tall for this shock. You would need a rear shock capable of handling 1.5" or lift or higher. Check out the similar Eibach Pro-Truck Rear Shock, for instance.

Answer provided by: Jason@Stage3 (1/11/2021)

Customer Question I’m getting conflicted info on some of your answers about these shocks and a 3 inch rear block. Some of your answers say these will only handle 1 inch of additional travel, but I’ve also read a few of your answers that say these will handle a 3 inch block and 1.5 inches of travel. I’m thinking I’m reading answers that are a few years apart and maybe things have changed. Thanks.

Asked by: Dave - 9/21/2020
Customer Answer Things have changed. Bilstein only rates this shock to handle 1" of rear lift, and a 3" rear block adds up to 1.5" of net lift (depending on your rear block). If you're currently using a 3" rear block, your better bet would be the Eibach Pro-Truck rear shock.

Customer Question First question. I have read mixed reviews on the corrosion of the Bilsteins zinc coating. I don't live in a salt heavy zone, but still don't want them looking corroded. Second question is can the rear boot be removed without creating issues with the shock?

Asked by: Andrew Bailey - 9/7/2020
Customer Answer In general, the zinc coating tends to hold up fine in anything except for either heavy salt and/or driving on gravel or dusty roads on the regular. Salt, gravel, and dust does tend to abrade the coating off after a while, and can result in rust formation. The boot can be removed, though you may want to keep it on if you're going to be driving on gravel or dusty roads. If you're concerned about rust and corrosion, you may want to go with an aluminum-bodied shock.

Customer Question How do these compare to the 5160 series? Are the reservoirs the same size? I know that the 5160 have the remote reservoir but I am curious what the differences are on and off road between the two.

Asked by: MeatWagon17 - 1/13/2018
Customer Answer The shocks themselves are the same diameter (46mm), and their valving is similar (though a bit different, since one does have a remote reservoir). You do have to keep in mind that these shocks have steel bodies, which doesn't dissipate heat as well as aluminum, so the addition of a remote reservoir really ups fade resistance. That being said, if you're not pushing your truck hard off-road, then you likely don't need the 5160s.

Asked by: guest - 9/14/2017
Customer Answer The shock itself has not effect on ride height. Only a larger rear block, add-a-leaf kit, or a complete leaf pack adds rear ride height to an F150. This shock can handle roughly 1" of extra ride height over stock, which does allow you to use a larger rear block, if desired.

Customer Question What is the difference in ride quality between these and a set of Fox 2.0's?

Asked by: coconutstu - 3/13/2017
Customer Answer Overall on-road ride quality is pretty similar, with both the 5100s and the Fox 2.0s offering up a tad firmer ride in exchange for much better control and handling over stock. Off-Road, the Fox 2.0s are superior to the Bilsteins. The 5100s also tend to get a bit stiffer when you set them to their highest ride height perch, since they preload the factory coil spring, while the Fox 2.0s come with an ERS coilover spring that's better designed for extra preload. The choice really comes down to what kind of off-road driving you do and your budget moreso than anything else.
