2015 f-150 super crew 4x2, factory 20's w/stock tires, 2.7 ecoboost. Love it. Makes the truck feel completely different. It had descent power stock but felt like a slug around town in normal driving. Just normal driving it drives so much better, it's not shifting into 6th so quick going 45mph. I can't say for certain that it gave my truck 70hp and 100tq, feels like 200hp!! From a dead stop leaving at 2500rpm, it feels like a shot of nitrous was added versus stock. Very pleased with my tune. Cold air intake will be coming next!! Hadn't checked the 87 economy yet, can't take it off the 93 performance lol.

After reading numerous of negative reviews (other websites), I had fears of product may not work or even mess up the stock program and cannot get vehicle to start. However, that's not true at all, it's just a simple plug and play. Performance is superior. All I can say is 87 performance is great, 91 performance is a bit too fast for me already....

The tuner itself is very easy to use once you get it up to date (can be a little tricky, it's not that complicated you just have to read all the directions). The tunes from 5 star are very good. My favorite is the performance/ tow tune. It didn't change my fuel economy (better or worse) but it made the truck feel like a new truck. Feels like it should have from the factory! I also got the performance and economy tunes. The performance did what it said but seemed to drop fuel economy. I was disappointed with the economy tune. Was hoping for a 2 mpg increase (I think I read 10% some where) I got a .5 increase. So it did is job just not as well as I had hoped. So I'll be happily running the tow tune from now on!

I've been running the 93 octane performance/tow tune for about 2 months now ( 1500 miles or so ). No issues, and I absolutely love it. With this tune in sport mode the truck is an animal ( for a 2.7L ). It puts you right back into the seat. I also still get about 18 MPG when not towing. I can't wait to try the 93 Performance tune in the spring. I've been towing too much to try it out yet.

I have ran the performance/towing 93 and performance 93 tunes. The 93 perf/tow is definitely worth the money. I have used it to tow a car back home from a friend from Tennessee to Ohio and averaged 14.3mpg. The 93 perf tune is a bit on the conservative side but it's a very good tune for daily driving when not towing and averages between 17-22mpg for my normal driving. The only thing I would like to see different with the 93 perf tune is that it feels like it feels like the power falls off above 4500rpms but overall I'm very happy with both 93 octane tunes.

This item is extremely easy to install and makes a huge difference when you put on the 93 octane tune. I also run the 87 octane performance/tow which is really a great drivable tune. The 93 octane is really for when you want to turn up and get pretty frisky I recommend them both.

Wow! This tuner is incredible. From the fast shipping and great customer service from the good folks at Stage 3 all the way to the first test run, this was definitely a great investment. I personally appreciated that the tunes were made specific to my vehicle, fuel octane, and associated modifications instead of the one size fits all approach that some of the competition takes. I started with the 91 performance tune (93 octane fuel isn't available where I live) and it just lets the beast out of the cage. Can't wait to see the improvement in gas mileage in 91 eco. Thanks Stage 3 and 5 Star Tuning!

Customer Question I see in some of the older questions that the 2017 2.7l wasn't yet supported by this tuner. Now that it's 2025, has that changed?

Asked by: Justin - 5/29/2025
Customer Answer The SCT 7015 X4 device shows compatible with the 2017 2.7L, but if you have the 10 speed transmission, 5 star till recommends the BDX device over the X4 for support of the 10 speed.

Customer Question Is there a difference in tunes between devices? The device should just be a way to load your tunes?

Asked by: MDP - 11/26/2020
Customer Answer The tunes themselves are the same between devices, other than the fact that the tunes are written for a specific device serial number. The device itself does load and store your tunes and/or monitor your truck.

Customer Question I am planning on adding a cold air intake, coil packs, an intercooler, down pipe and cat back exhaust upgrades. Is there a way to input these upgrades into the tuner, so i maximize the gains? or just install them and let the tuner adjust accordingly.

Asked by: Dean - 1/27/2020
Customer Answer 5-Star can tune for all those upgrades. However, you're best bet would be to install those upgrades first, then get a custom tune so that there's much less back-and-forth.

Asked by: Jay - 1/7/2019
Customer Answer The Performance/Tow tunes will help since they do add pretty significant power gains, cause your transmission to hold gears longer, and adjust your truck's fan settings to keep temperatures down during operation.

Customer Question I am looking at purchasing the x4 tuner with three tunes, am I able to load the 3 different tunes at the same time and toggle between them with the stock pushbutton on the turn signal. standard/tow/sport? Or do I need to use the tuner to load them 1 at a time? Also what kind a of a hp gain will I see if I order a CAI at the same time?

Asked by: jeff - 8/30/2018
Customer Answer You can only load one tune at a time, and shift-on-the-fly tuning is not possible. Tow/Haul and Sport modes will still function, though 5-Star's tunes overhaul your truck's shifting to the point where they're less useful for daily driving. Power gains are entirely dependent on what tune and what octane you're going to be using. Give us a call directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about what you're looking to do.

Customer Question I have a 2016 2.7 with intake and 4" exhaust done. I just added 2.5 inches to the front and 33" tires. How do i know which Tunes to pick at check out? New to tuners and would like to add any MPG back that the tires took away. Thanks

Asked by: JT - 3/28/2018
Customer Answer What tunes you should pick really depends on what kind of driving you're doing and what you're doing with your truck outside of the daily grind. In general, 5-Star's Performance/Tow tunes will get the best highway/rural fuel economy out of the bunch. The Economy tunes are designed more for city driving and stop-and-go traffic. We generally recommend sticking with Performance/Tow and Performance tunes, since the Economy tunes can make the truck feel a little sluggish, but it's really up to you. That all being said, tuning probably won't get you back all of your MPGs, but it can help quite a bit.

Also, I have a 15' 2.7, is there any chance that I won't have to go to the dealer for a TSB update. I really don't want to pay for the TSB update, or have to negotiate with the dealer for an update. Thanks!

Asked by: Matt - 12/7/2017
Customer Answer As long as you can run either Windows 7 or 10 in either bootcamp or Parallels, you should be able to use SCT's device updater software without any issues. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that your truck won't need a TSB update, regardless of its model year.

Customer Question I live in Utah and the highest octane we have is 91 due to the higher altitude. Should I run the 93 octane performance tune and use 91 octane? Or should I just run the 91 octane performance tune? Also the other octane choices in utah are 85 or 88. Can i run the 87 economy tune while only using 85 octane?

Asked by: Chandler Clark - 11/21/2017
Customer Answer You absolutely MUST USE either the octane your truck is tuned for or higher. If you use a lower octane than what you're tuned for, your engine can suffer from detonation and possibly serious damage. Asked by: Dalton Buell - 10/17/2017
Customer Answer It's our understanding that the X4 itself does not log 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. If you have downpipes, then you will very likely see higher peak numbers than 5-Star's dynos, which were conducted on a truck with no bolt-on modifications.

Asked by: paul - 7/27/2017
Customer Answer No. The tune is a complete overhaul of your F150's PCM software and will provide you extra power and change your shifting in any driving mode. Your various driving modes will still function, since they really only effect transmission function and steering feel, but the tune will always be present and doing its thing.

Asked by: John B - 5/24/2017
Customer Answer If you are going to tune your truck down the road, then a device with custom tunes (or a custom tune-capable device, at the very least) is a much more cost-effective option. That being said, you are better off using the custom tunes right away, since even doing something basic like a tire recalibration is pretty much tuning your truck, anyway.

Asked by: Remy - 3/29/2017
Customer Answer The tuning device can adjust tire size, and that function remains unlocked when using non-warrantied 5-Star tunes. Custom tuning your truck always carries the chance of being discovered by your dealer, which does have the risk of causing potential powertrain repairs to not be covered under the terms of your F150's powertrain warranty. Customer Answer The X4 can change your PCM's settings for tire size so that you get a correct speedometer and odometer reading. In general, a custom tune will be more beneficial in the long run than one of SCT's canned performance tunes, though with your modifications, you could run one of SCT's tunes assuming you still have your factory catalytic converters. Also, I have chopped my resonator and installed a flowmaster super 10 and lost quite alot of backpressure and low end torque resulting in lower mpg. Will this tunner correct my issues?

Asked by: Moustapha - 1/4/2017
Customer Answer The Performance and Transmission tunes cannot be used in conjunction with each other, and it would be fairly pointless since the 93 Performance and Performance/Tow Tunes change up your shift points and pressures anyway. The purpose of the Transmission Tunes is that they only effect the transmission while leaving stock power levels alone. The tunes' power increase will make you not notice your loss in backpressure.

Customer Answer 5-Star's Economy tunes are designed for city driving and stop-and-go traffic. In those conditions, the Economy tunes can pick up roughly 2-3mpg depending on octane. For rural and highway driving, you'll like see better fuel economy with 5-Star's performance/tow tunes, which can get you up to 2mpg, if you drive conservatively.

Asked by: AP - 8/30/2016
Customer Answer For performance applications, we generally recommend sticking with Performance/Tow and Performance Tunes. We also recommend getting a few in your highest available fuel octane, and a few in lower octane fuels in case you end up traveling somewhere with limited octane availability. In general, the Performance/Tow tunes are good for both gaining power for daily driving and towing applications, while the Performance tunes are good for aggressive street driving, race applications, and off-roading since the shifting is a bit firm for a dedicated daily-driven truck.

Asked by: Tristan - 7/9/2016
Customer Answer In general, you want tunes for your highest commonly available octane. Being in Arizona ourselves, we generally recommend sticking with 91 octane and lower tunes, unless you do a lot of traveling to places that have 93 octane on a regular basis. It's extremely important that you always use a fuel octane that's greater than or equal to your tune's rated octane.
