Before You Buy: 2017-2022 6.7L Super Duty Cooling Upgrades

There is a lot that 2017-2022 F250 & F350 6.7L Super Dutys can do. They can climb mountains, pull heavy loads, and even throw you back in your seat with acceleration with some upgrades. That being said, if your Super Duty doesn't have the proper upgraded cooling to keep up with those activities, then I suggest taking the Jeff Dunham approach and taking your children outside and pointing to the Super Duty in your driveway and say, "kids check out our brand new front yard ornament." Maybe that's a bit harsh because even with the stock cooling you will still be able to get from point A to point B unloaded. However, if you need to tow or haul something heavy over long distances, or you happen to live somewhere like where we are based here in sunny Arizona where it gets to about 125 degrees Farenheit in the middle of Summer. Then it's worth upgrading the cooling in your truck to help it last longer and to help you keep it out of the shop as long as possible. Keeping your truck cool in high temperatures or under duress prevents from overheating which saves money and helps you get more out of your truck's capabilities. If you are interested in looking at upgrading your Super Duty's cooling capabilities then there are three areas, in particular, to look at; Radiators, Oil Coolers, and last but not least Transmission Pans. Upgrading any of these three will make your truck that much more dependable in times when you and your family would need it the most.

Radiators For 2017-2022 Super Dutys

The first thing to look into as far as cooling upgrades is at the very front of your Super Duty, the Radiator. If you did nothing else but at least upgrade either of these things it will make a massive difference for the long-term durability of your truck. Take, for example, the 2017-2021 F250 & F350 6.7L Mishimoto Aluminum Primary Radiator. Keeping engine bay heat down to a minimum is the key to really pushing your aggressive Super Duty to its absolute limits. Mishimoto's radiators have up to 62% more cooling capacity than your OEM radiator which helps you keep temperatures down and horsepower up. In this radiator version, Mishimoto utilizes the new stabilizer mounting system for increased stability. This ensures that the factory flaw of tank separation will not happen to your F250 or F350 truck. This high-quality 6.7L V8 radiator is also lighter and more resistant to heat absorption to keep your truck running at its best. The greatest part is that it bolts right up in place of your OEM radiator and comes with a full set of installation hardware and detailed instructions. Mishimoto also created this radiator to be installed with simple hand tools. It may be a bit of a head-scratcher why there is only one radiator mentioned, but the reason for it is quite simple. Mishimoto Radiators are crafted of lightweight high-quality aluminum and hand-welded to ensure a perfect fit as well as a great under-hood appearance. Unlike other manufacturers, Mishimoto uses specially designed brass fittings to ensure leak-free performance. All of their radiators are pressure tested twice before leaving the factory so you can install your new radiator with confidence.

Oil Coolers For 2017-2022 Super Dutys

Besides the Radiator, another thing that you can look into is upgrading from the stock oil cooler. One option to look into is the 2011-2019 F250 & F350 6.7L Mishimoto Replacement Oil Cooler. Taking care of your oil is one of the keys to taking care and making sure your F250 or F350 Super Duty is around for a very long time. This oil cooler from Mishimoto works well for daily driven trucks better than the stock oil cooler. Purchase of this includes the oil cooler itself, new seals, new o-rings, and even a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. This product is advertised to help your truck's engine improve its oil cooling and protect it from unnecessary wear. Part of the design also includes an additional row that adds more cooling capacity. Another oil cooler that we have available is the 2011-2019 F250 & F350 6.7L Mishimoto Performance Silver Oil Cooler (seen below). The main difference between the first one mentioned and the second one other than being made for performance is the fact the performance oil cooler is more of a complete kit. Mishimoto created this product to eliminate the factory liquid to the liquid oil cooler and replace it with a liquid to air cooler, thus taking the pressure off of the primary cooling system. This cooler measures 17.4in long, 7.5in tall, and over 2.5in thick to give your truck next-level cooling capability. Oil is fed into the cooler utilizing two stainless-steel braided -16 AN lines for adequate flow in even the direst and demanding situations. This also includes a bar and plate design that helps it to withstand road debris and the elements alike. Also included is a CNC-Machined aluminum adapter plate that bolts directly to the engine in the stock cooler location as well as brackets to support the lines and make installation a breeze. This also comes in a sleek silver that looks good in any engine bay. If silver is not your taste, there is also the 2011-2019 F250 & F350 6.7L Mishimoto Performance Black Oil Cooler in case that looks better on your specific build.

Transmission Pans For 2017-2022 Super Dutys

The Super Duty can do a lot but if we are really getting down to it, the stock transmission pan just does not do the best job of dissipating heat. Obviously when someone thinks of overheating their first thought maybe a bad radiator, hoses, or in need of a new cooling fan. However, something that also should be looked at is the transmission pan, especially if the truck is used for a lot of heavy towing. The first to look at is the 2011-2019 F250 & F350 PPE Heavy-Duty Deep Aluminum Transmission Oil Pan (Black) or 2020-2021 F250 & F350 6.7L 10R140 PPE Deep Transmission Pan (Black) (seen below) for newer Super Dutys. This transmission pan helps to increase your fluid capacity by 8 quarts overstock. Part of the design of this pan includes .75 inch external fins that help improve heat dissipation, lower transmission fluid temperature, and increase strength. Also included are 1in internal baffles that increase heat dissipation and reduce fluid sloshing. There are also gussets built-in that provide overall support to the top flange and increase overall robustness. One of the best parts about this pan is that PPE designed it to be completely compatible with the OEM gasket and filter. The pan features a 1inch Neodymium magnet equipped 304 stainless steel drain plug with Viton O-ring for easy maintenance. There is also a flat bottom that allows for complete fluid drainage. Also included is a tapped and plugged 1/8-inch NPT port for an optional fluid temperature monitoring sensor. In addition to the black for both years, there is also the 2011-2019 F250 & F350 PPE Heavy-Duty Deep Aluminum Transmission Pan (Brushed), 2020-2021 F250 & F350 6.7L 10R140 PPE Deep Transmission Pan (Brushed), 2020-2021 F250 & F350 6.7L 10R140 PPE Deep Transmission Pan (Raw), and 2011-2019 F250 & F350 PPE Heavy-Duty Deep Aluminum Trans Pan (Raw). No matter what year and color combo that you choose with these transmission pans, PPE stands behind all of them with a limited lifetime warranty.

Though some of these products are a little bit on the pricier side upfront they will save you their value and more down the line. These products are crafted with high-quality materials that have been battle-tested to be durable, reliable, and sustainable. There are not many people that would disagree about the importance of making sure that your truck remains cool even when working hard. It is important to note that some products may not be able to be shipped to certain parts of the country so take a look at each listing extra carefully.
