The mounting brackets do not line up with frame rails. I can get one bolt in but even then there should be 2 bolts holding the bracket to the frame and further the front part of the plate doesnt reach the mounts. I have reached out several times to customer service both here and with the supplier (RCI) to no avail. Biggest waste of money.

Great skid plate. Well made mounts and plates. Install was fairly straightforward. It should do the job well.

This is a necessary upgrade for me after my fiber and plastic OEM skid plate got taken out by my adventuring. I had a hard time installing just by myself, so I bought two bolts that were 1/2" longer to accommodate for my inter cooler. It made the install significantly easier. Also, if you have an impact driver, use that instead of just a manual ratchet. Especially if you're doing the install solo.

RCI describes these skids as bolt on attachments for 2007-2014 Expy's. They do NOT fit. They do appear very well made. And a lot of people talk about how the front end of 2007-2017 Expy's are identical to 2009-2014 F-150's. I can assure you that this is only partially true at best and that the specs of the front cross member as well as the front frame horns on the 2007 Expy's are significantly different...assuming these RCI skids actually fit the F-150.

Customer Question Do they come painted black or not because the pictures show both

Asked by: Leo Peeters - 2/14/2026
Customer Answer For the 09-14 F150, RCI only offers the black painted steel version in our main pictures. They no longer offer the raw aluminum ones for this year range.

Customer Question Will this clear the intercooler on a 2012 EcoBoost 4x4? The last one from a competitor said it would, and it did NOT.

Asked by: idunlash - 4/22/2023
Customer Answer This kit from RCI will not have any clearance issue with the factory intercooler location.

Customer Question Do these work on 2wd trucks? When it says air dam removal required for install, does it mean permanently? Or can I reinstall the air dam after the skid plate is installed

Asked by: Jake - 2/7/2023
Customer Answer This skid plate kit will fit both 4WD and RWD models. The air dam has to be removed for installation. Due to the position of the skids, there's really not a way to reinstall them without modifications.

Customer Question I will ask and answer my own question: Will this fit a 2016 F150 4x4 with a Warn Ascent front winch bumper? And the answer is "yes, with a very slight modification." It fits fine once you trim the leading corners on the front skid plate by about 1" deep and 1 3/4" wide on either side, which allows the plate to align as it would absent the herculean mounting brackets used for the Ascent bumper. Caveat: RCI says that any modification voids warranty, but heck--these are skid plates, folks, and unless there is obvious defect when you get them, there's little point to a warranty! I'm quite happy with the combination--both Ascent bumper and the full RCI package plus gas tank skid are well-executed and worthy additions to my truck.

Customer Question Will it interfere with a 2010 ford f150 xl with a bulletproof suspension 10 in lift?

Asked by: pgbrules - 1/16/2020
Customer Answer The skid plate will not fit with a Bulletproof lift, due to the lift kit's crossmembers.

Customer Question Looking to replace the fiber OEM skid plates on a 2014 f150 4x4 for a customer, will this fit. I tried a different source and it's not even close.

Asked by: Steve - 6/13/2019
Customer Answer This kit will replace the stock forward skid plate and the fiber splash shield under the oil pan, but only if the truck is at stock ride height or has a leveling kit. These skids will not fit trucks equipped with true lift kits with dropped crossmembers.
