I purchased this skid plate to get some additional protection. When it arrived the plates are great quality however it only came with 2 speed nuts rather than 8 and the second row of bolts did not match the holes to my frame. I tried to reach out to customer support and can't get anyone to reply to me. So here I am stuck with a great looking product without any vendor support.

I have had these installed for about 3 weeks now. Installation was pretty straight forward and took about and hour. Fit is perfect and these are indeed heavy duty. I opted for the powder coated steel ones. One word of advise...don't reuse the factory mounting brackets and instead replace them with the ones included in this kit. One of the factory mounts snapped during installation and due to its location, I had to gradually remove the head of the bolt with a Dremel until I could get the thing out (took forever). I haven't attempted an oil change yet so I am not sure if I will need to remove a skid plate to do so. This kit is solid and plan to purchase the fuel tank plate as well soon.

Definitly offers more protection then the factory little skid plate for the steering componets that hang down to low. Went with the 1/4 inch aluminum skid plate. Pretty much a bolt on item. Had a little trouble with inserting the clips in the bottom of the frame rail, but other then that is a easy installation.

The plates and hardware are good. The plates a beefy and will take beating. The only reason i gave it 4 stars is the instruction is a bit unclear on brackets for the front plate.

I've purchased all three skid plates to protect my engine and transmission from the bumper to the back of the transmission. These are very well made, strudy and because of the installation kit that comes with them, a snap to install. The mounting holes line up perfectly with manufacturer bolt holes or openings in the frame where a slip in nut clip (included with the kit) provides a solid threaded nut insert to bolt the plate to. The plates overlap from one to another so there is a continuous plate from front to back with no gaps. I removed the cheap plastic air dam that sits under the front bumper and, IMHO, that alone cleaned up the front end of the truck. These plates replace the phony, ineffective, fiber barriers that Ford has installed under the engine and transmission. You can't go wrong with these plates.

Get the aluminum! It's really thick and heavy, worth the rust protection. Installed like a charm, bought a new-to-me truck that didn't have factory OEM skid plate or plastic shielding for the motor. In fact, my truck was missing some factory bolts so RCI sent me an extra set of heavy-duty hardware. I recommend spraying some undercoat or even just some rustoleum on the hardware after mounting it but before attaching the plate. So for about them same prices as an OEM replacement, I got heavy-duty aluminum that looks awesome and will last forever.

Awesome. Easy install. 2021 Gen14 F150 5.0, Aluminum plates. Left adaptive air dam in for now. It still works. Great support from Frank etc on my build an install. Tips: Use hand socket, then impact wrench only on final torque. Ford parts are soft so replace with RCI ones. I think if you have 2021 with intercooler you have to drill an extra hole in skid plate mounting brackets to accommodate it. But another owner did it no problem. The quality is incredible. Crazy solid. Look super slick. I love them. Cant wait to get out on the trail and hit some rocks with confidence. ha ha

Customer Question Does the transmission skid plate replace the fabric "skid plate" that is on the 2018 F150 ecoboost? I'm tired of replacing the flimsy factory piece.

Asked by: ALLAN FRUITT - 7/1/2025
Customer Answer Yes, this would replace the factory felt splash guard if you get the engine and transmission skid plate. This listing is just for the engine skid plate.

Customer Question I understand this will work with a 2019 F150 3.0 Powerstroke, just wondering if I would be able to change the oil with it on. Only have to worry about the drain plug as the filter is on top of the motor. Not sure if the drain plug is on the same location as the other motors.

Asked by: Christopher - 4/19/2024
Customer Answer We have not had a 3.0 powerstroke F150 as a project vehicle to be able to confirm the location of the drain plug to the opening on the skid plate.

Customer Question I have a 2019 f150 xlt 2.7 twin turbo. Will the restrict the air flow for the turbos

Asked by: Allan - 6/6/2023
Customer Answer The intercooler gets it's flow through the front bumper openings so it will not be affected by installing the RCI skid plates as they do not block that opening whatsoever.

Customer Question Can you still visualize and get to the oil filter with this in place, or does the plate have to be removed to change the filter?

Asked by: WI F150 - 2/8/2023
Customer Answer You can still reach the oil filter with the skid plate in place, though the easiest way is with a cap-style oil filter wrench and a wrench extension. Using a strap-style filter wrench would be pretty annoying, but still doable.

Customer Question Will this fit and remain secure on a 2020 ford f150 ecoboost 3.5l with rough country 2 inch lift that runs offroad for 7 months straight at a time. We had one before on a 2017 and it rattled alot here in the Montana terrain

Asked by: Jay - 12/22/2022
Customer Answer This skid plate will work on your truck. While we can't strictly guarantee it will never rattle, I've had the 09-14 version on my truck for about 2-years now and haven't had rattling issues, even after hard off-roading. That being said, I haven't run it off-road 7 months straight, so you may want to add lock washers or blue threadlocker to ensure everything stays tight.

Customer Question I have a 2019 Xlt sport. Will the skid plate have to be removed to replace the oil and the filter? I have seen answers about the oil but not the oil filter.

Asked by: Bid Daddy Rod - 12/23/2021
Customer Answer Nope. The skid plate doesn't need to be removed to change the oil or remove the oil filter. You will need to get the truck on ramps so that it's angled back for the oil filter drain. You'll also need a fairly long extension to get to the filter, but it's still reachable.

Customer Question Will this work with a 2018 f-150 Lariat with a ranch hand grille guard, not full bumper replacement but just the grille guard?

Asked by: Rhett - 9/21/2021

Customer Question I have a 2021 F150 powerboost with a 4 inch bds lift can the skid plate be modified to fit?

Asked by: JK Upton - 6/22/2021
Customer Answer Not easily. The issues is that the dropped crossmembers of the lift dramatically change the angles, positioning, and length that the skid plates have to cover. Your much better bet would be to have custom skids made by a local fabricator.

Customer Question Hello! Will the Rci skid plate fit a 2wd truck? Looking to get this as a gift. I was reading the description and it states, that the skid plate won’t kit 2wd. This is true? Thanks for your time.

Asked by: Freddy - 4/29/2021
Customer Answer Unfortunately, neither RCI nor ourselves have tested the skids on an RWD/2WD truck. There could be some differences in the hole locations in the frame where you need to mount the skids due to a lack of a front differential and associated hardware. We just can't outright guarantee that they'll fit out of the box without modifications.

Customer Question I have installed a Ronin after market oil drain plug. Would I still have to remove the after market skid plate to change the oil? Thanks, Terry

Asked by: T.C. - 4/30/2020
Customer Answer The skid plates do not need to be removed to get to the oil plug/aftermarket drain. The rear skid plate ends at the end of the oil pan, and as long as you're draining the oil on an incline, oil should not touch the pan.

Customer Question I have a 2015 F150 4x4 Supercrew with the 2.7 ecoboost. My question is about the oil drain, right now I have to take the fiber cover off to change the oil. Does this kit allow for easy on/off to change the oil?

Asked by: Jim - 8/15/2018
Customer Answer It's fairly easy to change the oil, though you will need to jack the front of the truck up in order to not make a mess. The oil drain plug is still accessible from the rear of the back skid plate, and the hole cut in the back skid allows oil to drain from the factory catch pan underneath the oil filter. In theory, the skid plates don't have to be removed for oil changes.

Asked by: MM - 7/8/2018
Customer Answer You will have issues. You won't be able to mount the forward half of the engine skid plate without modifications or custom brackets, due to the HDX grille guard covering the mounting points used with the skid plate's standard brackets.
