With our 2012 F150 EcoBoost FX4 Project Truck up on a towering 8" lift provided by combining a Zone Off-Road Lift Kit with a set of Pro Comp Add-a-Leafs, the Zone rear shocks that came standard with the kit were pushed past the point of being useful. That's why we grabbed a pair of 2009-2014 F150 BDS FOX 2.0 Rear Shocks for 6" or higher lift kits for our truck to get both improved performance and more articulation ability. The good news is that the BDS FOX Shocks are just as easy to install as a set of stock replacement shocks, making them an extremely painless upgrade for anyone that wants to get a little bit more out of their F150's 6" (or taller) suspension lift kit.
Our first order to business was to load up our truck with goodies and camera equipment and to head over to our friends over at Dyno-Comp where Tall Matt (not Beard Matt or Tat Matt) was waiting to help us out. We pulled in, Matt got us on the lift, and got right to work.
Matt first unbolted the first shock from its lower mount, before removing the upper mounting bolt and removing the shock from the truck.
Here's a comparison shot of the Zone shock with the new and improved BDS FOX shock.
Before fitting on the Fox shock, Matt installed Fox's bushings in the shocks upper and lower mounts.
Next, Matt aligned the shock onto the truck's mounts before slipping in the bushing sleeves.
He then reinstalled the factory upper mounting bolt and tightened it down.
Once the upper bolt was in, Matt installed the lower bolt through the shock and tightened it down.
Matt then torqued both bolts down to their proper torque specs.
With the first Fox shock installed, Matt moved on to the other side of the truck, where the install process was exactly the same.
Once the second shock was on the truck and bolted down, our BDS Fox Shock Install was complete.
