The stock throttle body of the 2005 to 2009 Mustang GTs doesn't have very large-diameter blades or the most efficient operating mechanism in the world. Swapping it our with a high-quality aftermarket Mustang throttle body will get get you 10 to 15 more horsepower, increase throttle response, and work with a variety of cold air intake kits to get you even better performance. If a cold air intake kit is the first thing a new Mustang owner does to their Pony, then a throttle body is often a second. Your 2005 to 2009 Mustang GT's factory throttle body doesn't have the largest diameter in the world, or the most efficient function. These aftermarket performance throttle body kits are everything your factory throttle body isn't and perfectly complement other intake upgrades to help your Mustang make excellent amounts of power and torque. Throttles your body. But really, a throttle body controls your mustang throttle. When you press your accelerator pedal, the throttle body's valves open a given amount to provide air to your engine and make your Pony accelerate. Your pedal position is fed by sensors to the throttle body's valve actuator and Throttle Position Sensor (TPS sensor) to determine how much the valve opens. The larger the throttle body, the more air passes through and the more power your Mustang is able to make.
How much power can I get out of an aftermarket Mustang throttle body?
Alone, a throttle body can get you up to 10 to 15 horsepower and 15 to 25 lb-ft of torque depending on the throttle body and your fuel octane. You can see even better performance when you combine your throttle body of choice with a cold air intake, underdrive pulleys, or custom tuning.
Do throttle bodies require tuning?
The BBK 62mm and the Metco GT500 throttle body adapter do not require tuning. The Ford Racing 62mm Throttle Body does require tuning, however, and your Mustang may need tuning depending on the cold air intake and other upgrades that you currently have on your Mustang.
Do I need to tune my throttle body if I have a cold air intake?
It depends. Which isn't the greatest answer in the world, but it's the truth. Most basic cold air intakes -- like K&N's 57 Series, BBK's cold air intake, or Airaid's standard cold air intake -- can be used with a throttle body without extra tuning. More powerful bolt-on kits -- like the C&L Cold Air Intake and any other cold air kits that require tuning -- will require a PCM tune to prevent damage and ensure proper function.
Will these throttle bodies work with my supercharger?
All of our throttle bodies will fit every, single, solitary one of our 2005 to 2009 Mustang GT supercharger systems (and most others) EXCEPT for the Saleen Series Vi and VI.5 superchargers. The neck leading into the intake manifold is too small for an aftermarket throttle body and the butterfly valves will not clear properly.
