Getting the right Spark Plug Gap for your 5.0L F150

While getting the right spark plugs for your F150 5.0L can help your Coyote V8 maximize its power and keep it running strong, making sure that your spark plugs have the correct gap for your application is equally as important. For the uninitiated, spark plug gap is the distance between the central electrode (the tip of the plug) and the ground electrode. Gap is extremely important for ensuring that your 5.0L is getting a good, clean burn in all of its cylinders. Too narrow a gap could result in a poor spark that may not properly ignite your F150's air/fuel mixture. Too wide a gap may result in spark blowout (especially in supercharged applications) and misfires.

So what gap should you run in your 2011-2014 F150 5.0L V8? Well, if you have a bone stock truck and you aren't planning on doing any engine modifications, you can stick with the factory-recommended .049" to .051" gap. For tuned F150s, 5-Star recommends a .045" gap for optimal results with their custom tunes. Supercharged F150s should gap even lower, down to .030" to .035" , depending on the boost pressures and power outputs of your supercharger kit of choice.
