2015-2016 F150 5.0L S&B Cold Air Intake Install Guide on a 2016 F150!

Dakota, a customer of ours, has a 2016 F150 5.0L, which recently got an intake upgrade in the form of an S&B Cold Air Intake Kit. S&B's kits are always an excellent choice for practically any F150 truck, and they offer up an excellent balance of price point, quality, and performance, so you can't really go wrong with them. Dakota was kind enough to put together a complete install guide with photos of the install, and this should seriously help out anyone looking to install one of these kits on their very own 2015 to 2016 F150 5.0L.

2015-2016 F150 5.0L S&B Cold Air Intake Kit

The following is Dakota's guide as it was sent to us, with only minor formatting edits:

2016 Ford F-150 5.0
S&B Cold Air Intake Kit
Part number: SB-75-5083

Tools required:
- Ratchet w/ 10mm and 13mm socket
- If no ratchet/sockets, wrenches
- Flat head and Phillips screw driver
- Channel locks or pliers
- Teflon Tape (recommended)

Step 1:

Using 10mm socket, remove negative lead on battery. Then remove the pins holding the stock air scoop in place.

Step 2:

Remove clamp where air tube meets air box.

Step 3:

Remove lid from air box.

Step 4:

Unclip plugs from rear of air tube. One is button release, the other is lever release on the bottom.

Step 5:

Remove clips on air scoop at front of engine compartment.

Step 6:

Using the 13mm socket, Remove bolt on air box that attaches it to the inner fender/engine compartment. Then remove the air box from the engine compartment by pulling straight up. SAVE THIS BOLT, YOU NEED IT for the new air box.

Step 7:

Remove clamp connecting the air tube to the throttle body, then remove the air tube from the engine compartment.

Step 8:

On the factory air box, remove the metal ring and the rubber bushing where it was attached to the truck. Insert the grommet into the new air box, followed by the metal ring.

Step 9:

Place the provided oval gasket/seal on the side of the new air box with the largest clamp provided in the kit. Ensure the tab of the seal is facing downwards.

Step 10:

Using two plastic rivets per each hole, place the new rubber scoop on the new air box.

Step 11:

Use Teflon tape on the two fittings provided in the kit. Then place these fittings in their respective holes on the back side of the new air tube. Do not over tighten or you will strip out the air tube.

Step 12:

Place the new air box into the engine compartment. Ensure the two tabs on the bottom are placed into the holes below the air box.

Step 13:

Using the factory bolt, reach inside the air box and bolt the new air box to the inner fender/engine compartment.

Step 14:

Place the small side of the coupler onto the throttle body, along with the two clamps provided.

Step 15:

Turn the filter on its side, and slide it into the new air box. Ensure the clamp provided is on the filter before placing it in the box.

Step 16:

Slide the large end of the air tube into the side of the air box. Place it under the radiator hose, and into the seal on the side of the air box.

Step 17:

Attach the filter to the hose.

Step 18:

Place the air tube into the coupler at the throttle body.

Step 19:

Place the new clips into the air inlet.

Step 20:

Replace the plugs at the back of the air tube.

Step 21:

Remove the protective paper from the cover.

Step 22:

Place the gasket around the cover.

Step 23:

Place the cover on the air box with the provided screws and washers. Do not over tighten or you will strip out the air box.
